Post-Con

Jul 07, 2009 21:31

There is nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING better than seeing your old friends again at an event like this one. There is EVERYTHING better than leaving them to go home. Alan, Caitlin, Danielle, Max, Scott and his bros... Man, there's so much more I waned to do with you guys. Hang out like we were in the secret ghetto again. So much I wanted to do and say, and so little of that actually got done. Wonderful.

So I was picked up from LAX by the lovely
magi_sammy and
little_serenity in their car. When I touched the ground, I called Caitlin's phone and was like 「遅れてすいませんが到着です~」, to which I received the reply "Err, um, sorry, this is her sister." That was sort of awkward, seeing as how I'd only ever talked to her very briefly on cosplay.com's forums, but we got things sorted out. I was graced with the privilege of staying at their houses for the night before we went to con.

We went to con the next day in the morning time, which was cool because we went shopping while the two of them were essentially in costume, and I was wearing my Testament wig. That was indeed a strange shopping trip for which I STILL OWE CAITLIN $4.00! Don't let me forget this. Anyway we checked into their hotel room, which was relatively large and nice for them. Then Caitlin entrusted the care of her sister to me, and went to go pick up a friend. Juliette and I then proceeded to book it on foot from the room to the con site, where I left her with people she knew and then proceeded to miss my Guilty Gear gathering. That was awesome. Still, it was really cool to watch the bystanders ogle the Kinomoto Sakura with her second season staff running next to the Testament with his giant red scythe.

I got stopped for SO GODDAMN MANY PICTURES in my Testament costume. I think I may have been the only one? My scythe began to break after a while, but it held up somehow... When the rest of OSC.JAPAN arrived, I went with them to get their badges, and then we cruised around for a while in the con center. I'm not quite sure what else happened, having had so much happen otherwise as well, but what I do know is that I had to get enough sleep to be able to hang out with my rents the day after, so when we got back to Alan's place, I crashed at about midnight. The next morning I got into Souseiseki, toted my giant scissors, and had my rents come get me from Alan's place. We headed toward the con center, and had breakfast at The Original Pantry, which was absolutely delicious. SO delicious, in fact, that later that day when OSC.HOME's Vorgo and Pixie showed up, we got together with OSC.JAPAN and went there for lunch. Also delicious. Day 2 was awesome because of the quest givers-- these people in plain clothes that had plastic rods holding up yellow exclamation points above their heads.
If you talked to them, they would give you a slip of paper that asked for a picture or video of something, be it an anime couple bickering, the cast of FFVII ganging up on Sephiroth, or (my personal favourite) a video of you doing the robot with a robot. Every quest you turned in got you some candy and a new quest. I got a button for participating, as well as the rest of my party which consisted of Vorgo and Pixie, and occasionally some others who would join for a few moments. We completed like eight of them. Austin then statyed the night at Alan's place with us, whereupon we had one of those long-needed conversations that he and I sometimes have the opportunity to have. It was much-needed and felt all right.

The next day... man, what did I do? I came dressed as Cho Hakkai from Gensoumaden Saiyuki, out of which I promptly switched after a few hours. The rest of the remaining members of OSC.Home showed up (that is to say, Suicide showed up), and I introduced everyone I could to everyone else I could. That day the quest givers sorta disappeared, so we gave up on them. In any case, though, this was one of the more laid-back days. Vorgo actually didn't look bad in the corset-vest thing that I had made for Souseiseki, so while I was not wearing it, he was. Day three was a lot of hanging out, a lot of chilling, and a lot of walking around. Then Caitlin was gracious enough to spend some time shooting out costumes that we had on, whish was awesome. What would I possibly do without Caitlin around? I'd be terribly sad all the time (", he said, as though he wasn't a goddamn emo kid all the time anyway).

COSPLAY CHESS WAS AWESOME HOMG. Souseiseki got taken out by someone from Fire Emblem, whose spear was fucking sharp, by the way, but all in all, the players and organizers (one of whom is indeed Pretty Sammy) had a TON of fun. Pyramid head, Domon Kasshu, Ace Ventura, Bridget, the Captain Falcons... the list of AWESOME goes on.

Day 4, while incredibly short, was nonetheless perhaps the most fun I had costume-wise. I was wearing Fakir from Princess Tutu's school uniform, and spent my time dancing little adagios in front of the South Hall's escalators. A bunch of people took not just photos, but videos of me doing things as simple as pique turns across the floor, or a saute arabesque after a sissone or something. There was a girl dressed as Haruhi from Ouran that was a jazz dancer, so we messed with a few things for a bit. She was cool, and I got her deviantArt thingy so we could keep in touch or some tripe. When that was over, we headed back to Alan's place, where after a while of some bumpy situations and missing a member of the party, we began an EPIC AS SHIT game of Shadowrun wherein we essentially killed the shit out of two dragon-kin and watched another get stomped. We inherited the GIANT MANSION in which the CEO of Renraku corporation lived, but were essentially kicked out of it for a good deal of time, until the Renraku corporation can forget the fact that the whole of Seattle and likely every damn trid player in the world had a picture of Ten Rainyday with his boot on the chest of the corpse of the last remaining heir to Renraku. That was bad. We escaped in a helicopter piloted by our Butler Johnathan after two of Gakki's drones came back to help us out and Gakki himself sort of showed up to save our asses with superior wicked piloting. Roy got to put an arrow through a JET PLANE that was chasing us.

There's a net series to which Scott, his bros, and I were introduced via a panel, called "There Will be Brawl." It's essentially a post-modernist take on the characters from Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers Brawl, where Kirby is like Hannibal Lecter, the ultimate canibal, Gannondorf is a mob leader along with Mewtwo, King De De De, and Bowser, and Samus Aran is a stripper (who is quite attractive, by the way...). This series is an amazingly well-done idea, and I encourage everyone to watch it.

さーてーとっ, now to talk about my next con. It appears that there's a con up here in November called Akicon, a young con of only like two years old, happening over near Seattle. In November, which is nice, because it makes up for the lull in cons during the winter. SO my Washington Group, the name of which I am not quite certain is not "317 Cosplay," decided, based on urbanberber 's already having a Squal, to do an FFVIII group. I'm going to go as Seifer, it seems. Wish me luck on all of this.

God, I miss everyone already. SO much I wish I had the courage to say, so much more hanging out with the gang, so little actual resolution, so little of what I was waiting for. I wish I was braver.
