IC Information;
Character Name; Gau Meguro (though he will be using it in the order appropriate for his culture ICly)
Canon; Nabari no Ou: The most complete (but still sadly lacking) wiki is
http://nabarinoou.wikia.com/wiki/Nabari_No_Ou_Wiki. Gau does have a page in the wiki (
http://nabarinoou.wikia.com/wiki/Gau_Meguro) however, the information on it is NOT correct at all, and I haven’t been able to find a better one. (One of these days I’ll cave and edit that one, maybe?) Until then, for my take on his history and issues like his age, you may look here:
https://sites.google.com/site/megurogauwiki/home/history Canon Point; Chapter 48, upon deciding to attempt to help Miharu and Yoite without leaving Kairoushuu
Age; 16
House; Sigyn, chosen because of Gau’s desire to help others and his kind heart, untarnished despite his experiences.
Power; Healing
Personality;
Gau's life is largely ruled by a very strong sense of right and wrong. His involvement with the Kairoushuu was partially because of Raikou, who had saved his life, but he also professed a strong loyalty to the goals that the leader claimed,of making the world a better place. He is at his core a very compassionate young man, and is always looking to help people, even at risk to himself. A good example of this, of course, is the fact that he threw himself between Raikou and his sister Raimei while they were fighting, taking a wound that nearly killed him, in an attempt to bring them together again as siblings.
Gau's strong sense of loyalty for his friends and his ideals often comes out in rather explosive ways. Any slight to someone he cares about, real or imagined, will be met with outrage, and any affront to his sense of what is right will be met with idealistic fervor. That fervor was apparent during his time with the Wakachi, punishing those who used ninja techniques and abilities to cause harm in the outside world. A less serious example, however, would be his attack on Yukimi over his room being a mess, because 'what if Raikou got hurt?'
This particular personality trait earned him the nickname Tenpa-kun during his time with the Kairouushuu. He is quick to point out any dereliction of duty, and calls into question the abilities of those who don't meet his personal standards.
The rest of the time, however, Gau tends to be quiet and polite, and sometimes his words are even a little hesitant. He is used to being in the background, to cleaning up and working on paperwork. He's happy to stand back and let other people have the spotlight, in general.
It might be easy to forget that Gau was even in the room if he were in a good mood and not yelling at anyone. He easily fades into the background, though if there's a mess around, he's likely to sneak off and start cleaning without saying anything to anyone. When he's in unfamiliar surroundings he often draws in on himself a little, his shoulders rounding a little, his hands becoming busy with whatever is close by that looks like it could use some attention. If there's nothing to clean or straighten, he'll usually resort to looking for some other way to make himself useful, or studying.
His ‘special skills’ according to his manga profile are braille and three-part abacus, he’s a whiz at research and reports, and he’s got mad skills in the kitchen, especially with baking. Any kind of cleaning/organizing, other domestic skills like sewing, those are all things he can handle. He’s studied (self-taught) a fair amount of science, mostly in fields like forensics. He’s fluent in Japanese and English, has some experience with other languages, ... but in terms of fighting...
That’s a little less impressive. He does use the kunai that he carries with him, mostly in self-defense when necessary, and can throw them, as well as other more mundane objects. (He has deadly accuracy with a notebook, as evidenced by the notebook-to-the-face maneuver he used against a gun-wielding ninja). He is reasonably fast, but has no stamina, and his physical strength isn’t much more than his appearance suggests.
This is important to his personality because a lot of his self-image comes from being around those stronger than himself, and finding ways to be useful despite that.

Network Sample; [The first thing apparent on the screen isn’t actually the young man whose device the video is coming from but rather a very clean floor, moving away as the device is picked up off it. It gets turned over, and the green eyes that are now on the screen widen a little in surprise.]
Well, I suppose while I’m here, I might as well say hello to everyone?
[The screen backs up a little more, and there’s a bright smile, as the teenager greets whoever his audience might happen to be.]
I’m Gau. I suppose I should ask some questions, but I think I would prefer to explore a little more and gather my thoughts first, so perhaps... if you would like to share information, those of you out there could give me your first impressions of our new home?
[There’s a bit of rustling, and then the device settles again, from a new angle. The young man has obviously propped it somewhere, and is now sitting cross-legged on the floor with a notebook and pen in hand.]
I’ll be sure to return the favor, so please do share with me!
Log Sample; The room isn’t dirty in the first place, when Gau sets to cleaning. After all, he hasn’t lived in this world long at all, and cleans up after himself quite fastidiously every day. However, at the moment, what he needs most is to think, and thus, to clean.
When this became his favorite way to ruminate on things that are bothering him, he remembers quite vividly. He remembers stepping up close to his mother and taking the sponge out of her work-worn hands, kneeling on the battered linoleum of their small kitchen, his own hands dwarfed by hers. The sponge then had felt heavy, sodden with water and homemade cleaner, sharp-smelling and harsh.
The sponge in his now-gloved hand now feels light, his hands now used to heavier burdens, from stacks of paperwork and files to weapons. The liquid holds much the same scent however, brisk and clean, biting his nostrils.
Still, some things haven’t changed, from then to now.
The floor that the boy kneels on is wood, but the pressure against his knees is much the same, the feeling of almost pain that sets in after a little while, the peace that follows it when he finds just the right combination of physical movement and simple labor to take the emotion out of his thought process.
Now, in the center of his own bubble of safety, protected by familiar scent, sensation, and formula, the boy can calmly face the fact that he might never again reach his home world, might never again know the fate of those for which he was fighting. The questions that had nearly overwhelmed him at first (Is Yoite dead already? Does Miharu still hold the Shinrabanshou? Is Raikou’s sister safe?) can be calmly dealt with and set aside, left for when further information can be gathered, if such a time ever exists.
His future life here can be faced as well, the realization that he will have to adjust to this place,and choose new goals for himself, that he will have to interact with strangers from other worlds, work together with them despite his lack of knowledge about their backgrounds or motives or... without knowing anything at all!
There’s a sudden pause as the teenager realizes that his objectivity has slipped, that his mental pen is no longer writing in black ink. He stands up quite suddenly, the sponge still gripped in his hand, and takes careful steps on bare feet back toward the wall he started at. The floor is still damp here, and quite clean, but he himself needs to start over, reset.
And so he does, the knees of his pants becoming damp against the already-cleaned wood. And quietly he speaks aloud, “Two.”
This particular room will see eight passes of just this type before he reaches the opposite wall, his face set in a determination that says he has decided to face this situation head-on.
