so im reading this book by Brad Warner, a bassist of the former hardcore punk band Zero Defects, about Zen Buddhism and I love it. Everything that he talks about makes perfect sense and the fact that he relates it all to hardcore punk makes me connect so much better. I'm so glad I took this lit class and I'm def reading this book again and his other book over the summer. The thing that I loved most, which is actually why I'm writing this, is his section about "angry" music. People put such a stamp on your forehead for listening to angry music, like somehow its a bad thing and you're a bitter and angry person because of it. What he says is that you can't be angry when you write angry music because it will just come out like shit. "Anger doesn't make music, not even angry music. Music comes from a completely different place." He says angry music is just an honest view of the world, and if he didn't listen and write angry music then he'd be an angry person. Listening to angry music lets you know that you are not alone in your feelings of frustration, and that makes you feel like there is something positive that you can do with your feelings. That is why people listen to angry music, that is why I listen to it. This kind of music actually makes you happier, not angrier.
