The best way to go about this is to say that this is going to be a 2 part entry, and its not gonna be lyrics
So today I already was having a hard day, and then I get a letter from my step sister. She was giving me my Christmas present late, but more importantly, she wanted me to know first hand about a very bad situation. My other step sister is married to one of the best guys I have ever met. His name is Will. He is a talented singer and can play practically any instrument on this planet with ease. He's had a tough life, dealing with alcoholism, which I know was not his fault at all, and also dealing with a very tough career in the mortuary business. I know, that sounds really weird but trust me there is a lot that goes on that you or I never see. So my step sister was writing me to say that Will has come down with a very rare form of cancer, called Ewing's Sarcoma. It is not in the early stages, he has a grapefruit sized tumor between his spleen and stomach. For several months he was very sick and the doctors had no idea what was wrong, and now he has to go thru chemo after he has already been severely weakened for these months. I'm gonna be praying for him every day, and hopefully you will too because this is going to be a really tough time for my whole family, and especially him, someone who deserves it the least of anyone that I know.
The other letter that I got today was from me, when I went on a retreat in late september or early october. It made me smile, and this is what I wrote:
Tom,
No matter how hard and how bad things can be sometimes, you have to remember that the past is there to be learned from. You can't just live in it. Live for the present, for the future. There are more years ahead of you than there are behind you. If you look back and see all the great things that have already happened, just think of how much more there is to come. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, and thats why its called the present. Out of every bad thing comes 10 good ones, so look forward to discovering what those 10 great things are going to be. You can't forget your past ever, because it makes you who you are. Every day is precious and not wasted no matter what happens in the long run. Remember that it all happens for a reason, so don't worry about it so much. It's your life, and NOBODY else's, so live it the way you want to, and do what you think is going to make you the happiest.
