First reaction: WTF idiots. Stupendous example of dipshittery, supposedly by people in higher education. I am concerned about what point they could be trying to make here. My initial reaction to this was like, wow, okay, you SERIOUSLY don't understand that 80% of the things on this list can be boiled down to : women don't have to be chivalrous. The end. Additionally, if they are trying to remind women that these are powerful things, they aren't, as they are dependent upon male chivalry. This brings me to reaction no. 2: Grudging acknowledgment of possible alternative point I.E. empowerment. Perhaps the point is to remind women of the privileges they do enjoy under the patriarchy, in the hopes that they can recognize them and not take them for granted/realize that in many cases they are depowering themselves by utilizing X privilege. Perhaps my optimism is getting ahead of me, but I'm hoping reaction 2 is the one they were attempting (through indirect means) to achieve.
My guts tell me that it is the former, though. WTF. Like you said, Square, awesome example of Not Getting It. Woo! Patriarchy! Woo! Chivalry! I LOVE BENEFITING FROM MY SUBORDINATION. LOVE IT. OH BABY. SEX MEH. Check out the pwah of my dependent privilege, which is based on, and thusly secondary to, the privilege of men! YAAAAY! Sure you can get a job and be the breadwinner, but I have the privilege of staying home and doing housework! Sure! You can go and have a limited number of clothes/identities you can wear, while I will have lots of clothes and be judged by them AND my overall physical appearance, and this will be much more important than anything else that I do and accomplish! But hey, I don't have to get up from the table when people come to meet me, and I don't always have to pay the bill! I don't even have to open doors for people! ALLI HAV ETO DO IS SIT AROUND AND LOOK PRETTY. AND CRY occasionally, to get my way. Additionally, all the work I do around the house will be ignored and given no respect by anyone, because apparently, I am a woman, I have a clit, and I can have babies. HAHAAAA! CLEARLY MY PRIVILEGE KNOWS NO BOUNDS! I AM WOMAN AND I SHALL RULE THE PRIVATE SPHERE FOR ALL TIME.
Ergh. I hope they didn't mean it like that. Can we all just be friends? Can't we all agree that the gender regime kinda sucks for everyone and not play the 'I'm more oppressed than you' game? THE ANSWER IS NO
