Donna-centricness! Oh, crazy Jason. Countdown 48, AA! 2, and TT 47.

Wow; so lots of Donna Troy this week.

As an overview; I kind of found a strange recurring theme and an interesting reccuring theme - Donna is playing the voice of reason in all of these titles; unfortunately it's at the expense of every other character's intelligence. Now, I love Donna Troy. So, I'm always happy to see her being smart; but it reeks of something nasty when she's constantly jobbering others.

However, that would assume I care about most of the DCU. At this point; I kind of don't.

The other theme is that she seems to have a new buddy - ironically, crazy sort-of-sexy Jason Todd! Bahahahahha. That's an insanely awesome pairing if I've ever read one, what the hell are you on? Oh Paul Dini; thank you for the wierdness.

Anyways, here are her issues peice by peice.

So, in the shitball known as Amazons Attack #2, Donna is - once again - one of the only Amazons with a brain. Granted, at least we're seeing signs of discord (thank goodness Phillipus and Artemis are all good) but we're still seeing bloodthirsty monsters parading as Amazons. Like, where's Pythia and the like? Granted, I'm jumping the gun - but when you have constant messages of 'WOMEN WARRIORS ARE KILLING THE CAPITAL' and the like within a cultural context that isn't friendly towards feminists or women... Well, you start to re-enforce not a good message.

I'll hold out, but not for long.

At any rate, Donna managed to have a role in this issue (with gorgeous Wood art; rendering, storytelling, posture, it's all top notch) in that she's sane Amazon, more or less. Here's the scene.

So we got a conscious understanding that the Amazons seem to be bat-shit crazy, but we also get the unintentionally re-enforced that one of the only Amazons who are thinking this is crazy is one that spent most of her life in Patriarch's World. Granted, Phillipus and Artemis are also questioning things but.... Well, what happened to Artemis' temper? Why isn't Hippolyta reffering to Donna as her daughter? Hell, why the hell are they acting like the monarchy wasn't abolished a while ago?

It's just confusing and paints this amazing culture as some sort of insane monstrosity. So, while I enjoy seeing good Donna - and I think she was written well here - she was about the only one, and to make her look good we sacrificed alot. A shame. I really do love most of Will Pfeiffer's work; and it seems to be on the way to something.... but this; and the Wonder Woman relaunch as a whole has been a disaster.

Although I do enjoy Jason following Donna like a puppy. HA!

Countdown I was only skimming through until Donna showed up. I've been slightly excited about Countdown since it's a) Paul Dini, b) Donna in a leader position, and c) her foil-ish people seem to be Jason Todd and Kyle Rayner. I was wrong in thinking I'd see more Kyle than Jason though.

In case you missed it, Duela Dent got killed by a Monitor. Here's the scene that I fan over.

"I even had one once, remember?"
"Go on... I'm vaguely interested in people who have totally gone batshit crazy but look great in suits."

Oh, Countdown. So silly. Whenever I see Jason and Donna interact, I always skip back to when she recruited him for that Russia-Cheshire mission and he was hitting on her then, too. WILL HE RECEIVE WISH FULFILLMENT?

The other Donna-ness that tied into was Teen Titans 47.

Randy Green stole Donna's bra. She is the sad.

And this? This had me bawling in laughter; because even though Donna was probably supposed to look wistful, she looks HAPPY.

'I just got back from his Mom's funeral. :) Duela's dead. :)'

Oh Donna, you awesome person.

Anyways, this issue involves Jason-Todd-crotch-punched and Cassie being a complete and total douche.

Happy Donna as voice of reason! :D But not for something that the REAL Cassie could figure out on her own. Do they hate Peter David? Cassie is far more competent than this.

Donna also jobbers Dick, though that just made me laugh.

More Cassie as a douche! Her powers may have faded again, but don't stand there gawking like a loon.

Good for Donna all around this issue.
But terrible writing and characterization made me sad. D:
The art was pretty great, though. <3 Bastia.
