Spring Break 2007 - Day 6 (Newport News VA/Rehoboth Beach DE/NYC)

Mar 08, 2007 10:16

Well, today was quite the adventure!  I was up bright and early at 6:15 am so I could enjoy eating breakfast with Roger at one of my favorite places to eat breakfast of all time: Shoney's Breakfast Bar.  After woofing down some french toast sticks, eggs, and bacon, I went back to Roger's place and got some things accomplished: laundry and more grading.

I left Roger's at about 1:40pm to head to Rehoboth Beach, DE.  When I left Newport News, it was sunny and a balmy 48 degrees.  I got to go across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which is pretty damn exciting actually.  Here is a picture of me at the gift shop...the bay is behind me...

After visiting the LOVELY gift shop and picking up a shot glass for the collection, I pressed on.  I discovered that there is not much going on in the Eastern Shore of both Virginia and Maryland.  However, I did get to see where Univ. of Maryland-Eastern Shore is, which is cool (for me, anyways).  Not soon after I drove through Princess Anne, MD, did I hit the snow.  I was basically in snow all the way to Rehoboth, where I met up with long-time friend
ursasru for dinner.  After some pretty good Chinese buffet, we went over to see his partner at work.  It doesn't seem like they've only been gone from Pittsburgh but for a few months.  After saying bye to those guys, I hit the PNC Bank for some cash, filled up the tank at the Wawa, and proceeded for my final destination: JFK Airport.

I called my mother back (she had called me and we got disconnected, then was roaming...), and we proceeded to talk for almost 90 minutes...that helped the time fly by.  I did pull over once to check on a man that had spun out going too fast in a Chevy Impala and had ended up in the median.  He was OK, and the tow truck arrived not even 2 minutes after I had stopped.  Once I got close to Dover, the roads completely cleared up, and it was smooth sailing all the way into JFK, where I was to meet
usmcbeardad.  So once I figured out where the hell Terminal 7 was, and where to park (got diva parking no less), I went inside to wait.  After PATIENTLY waiting for his plane to arrive, he came out from baggage claim.  I probably looked like a grinning idiot, because I was very happy to see him.  We then proceeded to go out to long-term parking, get "Cher" (his Jeep Cherokee), then drove me back to get my car at the garage, and then I followed him home.  After some searching, we found parking near his place.  Perfect end to a very busy travel day.

nyc, newport news, vacation, rehoboth beach, spring break
