This weekend, we surprised the kids with a train ride to the North Pole. A conductor took our tickets, the train took off, we went past various light displays and such. Gingerbread cookies and Yoo-Hoo were served, carols were sung, and The Polar Express was read. When we reached the North Pole, Santa and Mrs. Claus boarded and rode with us back to Chattanooga.
That's kind of a nice thing they did. The kids' faces just lit up. They'd never been on a train before, and Santa was resplendent in fine full length green robe, red fur outfit, snowy white beard, and very thick Southern accent. (I attibute that to Santa being the wordly sort of guy that can slip effortlessly into local customs and modes of speech.)
