Well, school has been out for a week, and I have been home for almost as long. I went to the graduation ceremony (makes sense, since all 3 of my apartment mates graduated!) on Saturday, and decided that I was going to drive home that night instead of Sunday morning. So I did. And I surprised Joe. And we were both happy.
At least, I was until later that night, after I got home from visiting with my marvelous boyfriend for a bit.
I had called my parents at home on Saturday morning to tell them of my plans. No one answered so I left a message, then called my mom's cell phone a few hours later. I found out that night why they weren't home.
They put my dog, Maui, to sleep that morning. My beautiful, smart, sweet, adorable, not even 7 years old, puppy dog. The one I taught stupid tricks to, like "paw," "other paw," and "dance."
I knew it was going to happen eventually... I mean, she was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2003. The vet had given her 4-6 months to live, and obviously she had beaten that prediction. She would go through phases of not wanting to eat very much, but she'd eventually perk back up and be her happy-go-lucky self. Towards the end, though, my mom says it was pretty bad...
It's just that... I never got to say good bye. The last time I saw her was over spring break at the beginning of April, since I went home then.
And damn it, even a week later I'm still crying about it.
