*this* entry.
What: PG. Tomoka and Sakuno speak a bit about life, injuries, and Yukimura. ^^ teeth-rothing fluff going on here, w00t.
Ouch, ouch, ouch. No, really - OUCH. Tomoka winced and put her hand on the spot where her left arm hurt the most, and for a the umpteenth time she cursed for playing the "big girl" role when Oishi asked if she wanted him to fully heal her arm. He looked worried and with good reason, since she was bleeding and looked pale back then - but noooooo, she had to say she'd rather have just some bandages so he could save his healing powers to heal Kajimoto and the other kids. Now she had to deal with the pain - or better said, just suck it up, because it was her fault anyway.
"At least the others were okay," she murmured, walking into her and Sakuno's bedroom and plopping down on the bottom bed. She slept in the top bed and could still use the ladder to climb to it, despite how uncomfortable it was to do it now that she had an injured arm; her roommate had offered to trade beds, but again she had said no, wanting to look braver than she really felt Right Now...
Her first day back at training after the messy protest wasn't supposed to suck *this* much. She had told Yukimura over journals it'd be okay. But by okay, she didn't mean *this*.
"Idiot, idiot, idiot", she thought. Tomoka had been such an IDIOT, thinking she could shield them all. She had made one *really* childish mistake akin to those she committed during her first days, but even worse because she was now a senior who should've known better...
Once the pain and the bad mood passed a bit, Tomoka smiled in spite of herself. No use worrying Sakuno, after all. Tomoka could still recall how shocked and almost in the verge of tears the other girl was when she returned to the dorms with her arm bandaged, so she didn't want to be the cause of her friend's worry again...
"Um...Tomo-chan?"
The door creaked open, and a tray came floating in. Or rather, Sakuno came in holding it, near completely invisible. On the tray was some mint tea, with little wedges of lemon in a tiny bowl, and a plate of fresh lemon muffins.
She knew her friend was still in pain. She'd occasionally caught grimaces, and Tomo reaching up to touch her arm. But Tomo insisted she didn't need anything...Sakuno wasn't sure what else to do but plead with her to go to the doctor or at least tell Hanamura-san.
Setting the tray near the other girl, Sakuno bit her lip and sat next to her roommate. "Are you sure you're okay? I brought you some tea...maybe I should have brought you one of Seich--I mean, Yukimura-san's aspirin..." She phazed a bit back into visibility, most of her braids and her face coming back
Ah, there was her roommate Sakuno, always shy and sweet as the cute and gentle foil to Tomoka's outspoken and tomboyish personality. And she had brought even some treats... Tomoka stared at her practically invisible friend and blushed half in in childish embarrassment, half in shame because she really didn't intend Sakuno to worry so much for her.
"Oh," she said when she could finally speak again, carefully taking one of the muffins. "I'll be okay, Sakuno. I've been through worse, believe me..."
Amidst her conflicted feelings, one light suddently lit up in Tomoka's mind. She really, really wanted to ask Sakuno how come she had started to quikly to refer to Yukimura (tall, slim, black-blue hair, rather handsome though a bit too feminine-looking for Tomoka...) by name, even when she tried to deny it... But in the last moment, she held herself back.
"You don't need to tell Yukimura anything," she assured the younger girl, smiling. "I'm not sure he'd like to hear how I made a fool out of myself."
She took a small bite of the muffin... Delicious, indeed - but this was Sakuno, after all. "You'd rather search for a more pleasant subject to talk with him about," she told her when she was done eating that bite.
The blushes just always happened whenever Yukimura's name came up. Sakuno's face flushed a deep pink, and then in the next second, she disappeared completely.
"W-well...that is...I'm sure he would be concerned too, Tomo-chan. And you weren't foolish at all, you were trying to help!" She tried to calm down a little; her embarrassment over her secret feelings for Yukimura and her concern for her friend weren't going to keep her visible, and she was supposed to be working on that more.
Little by little, her torso came back into view, and she faced Tomo with a serious look. "It doesn't make you weak to need help, Tomo-chan", she said softly. "Otherwise we'd all be weak. So," she said, determined, "are you sure there isn't anything I can do for you to make your pain go away?"
"I..." Sakuno had more than a point and Tomoka knew it. Yes, it was true that she had acted impulsively and that *again* almost costed her a lot, but on the other hand, denying that she needed help made even more obvious that she *was* going through a difficult moment, and practically she'd be lying to Sakuno's face.
She finally smiled a bit, lifting a hand to slightly beep on Sakuno's half-invisible nose. "Just... tell the medlab people, if they ask you, that I *will* be checking in in the frequence they want me to and will follow all their indications. Because about Yukimura... I want you to speak to him about only pleasant things, not messes like this one."
"Ah...okay." Sakuno tilted her head, absently twisting a half invisible braid between her hands, the faintest of pink blushes stealing across her mostly invisible nose. "What...what do you mean about talking to Se-Yukimura about pleasant things, though? We always talk about nice things, Tomo-chan..."
Telling truths, Tomoka didn't need to hear Sakuno talking in her sleep or anything to know what she thought of Yukimura. Seeing her blush and disappear more frequently whenever someone said Yukimura's name, seeing her act more shy when he was around them... Hey, even the blindest person would know it.
"Tee hee...". She took a sip of mint tea before continuing, trying to think of anything *but* the pain in her arm. Which was starting to subdue a bit anyway; thank the Gods for the very pleasant distraction that this subject provided. "And I don't want you to stop doing so. Bet'cha you want to speak about even nicer things, so I don't want to be a spoilsport for you two."
"...I'm so obvious, aren't I?" Sakuno didn't even bother to deny it. She may be a little slow when it came to people being subtle or teasing her, but she didn't mistake what her friend meant by that. She wrung her hands around a braid.
"I...he's just so nice...and...and...handsome..." she finished weakly, putting a palm to her face. "That sounds so shallow...but he is. Tomo-chan...is it bad that...I'm dreaming about him a little too?"
"It'd be a bit weirder if you did *not* have dreams of him or anything, Sakuno." Tomoka was grinning now, happy to have a chance to peek a bit into Sakuno's heart. She then sent out some rainbow-colored sparkles, which surrounded Sakuno's semi invisible form, bouncing happily and later bursting into small cascades of bright light.
"Liking another person is the most normal thing in the world. And finding him handsome? Not shallow at all, unless it's the *only* thing you see in him..."
"Ah--oh no!" Sakuno exclaimed after smiling briefly at the colorful sparkles. "I mean, he's so kind, and smart, and he listens..." Sakuno blushed again, disappearing more. She was going to have to work so hard at not doing that.
"I just...I don't know what to do. I'm sure he only likes me as a friend", her voice dropped into a whisper. "And the dreams...sometimes I just want to...to sit on his lap and...oh, this is embarrassing!"
Tomoka lifted her unharmed hand and attempted to reach for Sakuno's face. After some bits of effort (and some more bursting sparkles), she found Sakuno's face and affectionately poked her cheek.
"Well, all of these things have a starting point of sorts..." She thought of it for a bit. Kissing her former boyfriend before he had a chance to back off had worked for *Tomoka* nicely once, but this was *Sakuno*, and things were different for someone as shy and sheltered as her roomie was. "You don't *have* to outright tell Yukimura that you like him by now. Hmmm...
After thinking some more, Tomoka poked Sakuno's face (as much as she could when she was practically transparent, anyway) again "First, you could try becoming a closer friend to him, acting similar to what youv'e done now but attempting to knowe a bit more about Yukimura. About the kind of person that lies behind the pretty boy face..."
"Meooooooow..."
The sounds came from the cat bed located not too far from the girls' bunk bed. Nakoruru, Tomoka's cat, had just woken up from her nap and looked at the girls curiously, blue eyes blinking.
Sakuno blinked, flickering a little back into visibility at the cat's meowing. Getting up, she walked to the cat and gathered her up in her arms, bringing her back to curl up on their laps. She thought about what Tomoka said, even though it made her blush a little still.
"Um...sometimes I try to. But...it seems a lot like prying, doesn't it? I mean, if he wants to tell me about himself..."
Nakoruru was purring happily (and leaning more on Sakuno, but that didn't bother Tomoka herself that much), Sakuno was more visible, and as she ate a bit more from her muffin Tomoka pondered a bit more on what advice she could give to Sakuno that wouldn't end up in disaster.
"It really does depend on how pushy or not you are," she said when done, two or three sparkles dancing over Nakoruru's head. Thank God the cat was still drowsy so she didn't try to catch them. "He shouldn't feel like you're trying to force him to give you any info on himself; that scares the heck outta anyone, after all."
"But...but I don't want to be pushy at all! I would never force someone...it isn't right..." Sakuno blushed a little more, but stayed as visible as she currently was. "Maybe its all right if we just stay friends..." she mumbled, biting her lower lip uncertainly as she petted the purring cat in her lap.
"I know you wouldn't, Sakuno. I wasn't even picturing you as pushy, ne! But on the other hand... if you don't ask him, you may never find out if Yukimura could like you back. I personally don't think there's any reason why he shouldn't, either..."
Tomoka had to resist the urge to hug Sakuno, so cute she looked as she petted Nakoruru and blushed. However, she also felt guilty for embarrassing her; Sakuno *was*, after all, much younger, so she needed advice and not being pushed around.
"But oh well..." She sighed, taking another muffin bite and thinking her words before speaking. "It's your decision, in the end. I can't tell you what you must do, only give you my opinion. I think you should tell him how you feel, but you're the one who decides whether you do or not, Sakuno."
What Tomo-chan said made sense. A lot of sense. But it didn't make the reality of it any less daunting. Just to tell Seiichi that...that she liked him that way...it made her cheeks burn unbearably hot just thinking about it!
But she wasn't some silly pre-teen crushing on someone she didn't even know. Seiichi and her were friends...she just had to be braver. Stronger. More sure of herself.
All she had to do was just say to herself 'what would Tomo-chan do?' The worst that could happen was that he wouldn't feel the same, right?
Oh yes...that was the part she was scared of.
"I wish...I wish I was more like you, Tomo-chan", she murmured. "You're not scared of anything..."
"Ne... don't say that, Sakuno." Tomoka leaned closer and put her hand on Sakuno's shoulder, smiling sweetly. "I have my fears and screw ups too, and I don't deny it. Nobody is born without them! But hey, isn't it more fun to see if we can start overcoming them? Some do it quickly and others do it in a slower pace."
Tomoka then pulled a bit away and winked, making some more sparkles appear and surround both girls and the kitten. "You just have to find the path that is more comfy to you, Sakuno! That's what you came searching for here, huh?"
"That's part of the reason...most of it was to help my Grandmother. She always said I'd be welcome here." The reminder of her kind, smiling Grandmother made Sakuno close her eyes and bite her lip for a moment, feeling that wave of melancholy wash over her. But Grandmother was gone, and Tomo-chan was trying to cheer her up, right?
She summoned up a smile and reached over to embrace the older girl, trying not to squash the cat in their laps. "Thank you, Tomo-chan. You're right...we can work on it together! I'm...I'm so glad you're my best friend..."
Tomoka quickly left her unfinished muffin on the tray not too far from them and hugged Sakuno back, also recalling to be gentle as to not squash either Sakuno herself or poor Nakoruru, and not make the pain in her injured arm come back with a vengeance. "I'm glad you're here too, babe. Who knows how life would be like without you around."
She petted Sakuno a bit more before continuing. "And Ryuzaki-sensei was right. This is *the* place where we mutant teens can lounge and learn to be ourselves, after all." There was the Brotherhood, too, but honestly said she didn't know a lot about their actual stances other than what she saw in the protest. And it was no place to think of it... Right now, she had an injury that she should take care of, a kitten to pet, and a sort-of mini tea party that she and her sweet best friend still could enjoy.
