Akaya checked himself in the full-length mirror and adjusted his tie. He felt awkward in a dress-shirt, tie, and nice pants but it was their 2 year anniversary and he was taking An out to the fanciest restaurant in the area. He wanted to look his best.
Fixing her dark blue strap-less dress she winked at the mirror and stepped out of the bathroom. Smiling she passed by Kirihara and grabbed her stiletto heels, she laughed at his failed attempt of putting on his tie right. Putting on the last heel she strode over to him and began to adjust his tie correctly, "Aren't you a little to big to not know how to do your tie right." She was really excited about tonight, she'd never thought they'd last a year let alone two, but love works in mysterious ways, doesn't it?
"Hey, I'm a tennis player, I haven't worn a tie since I was in Rikkai," Akaya looked down at her and smiled, "You look beautiful."
She didn't buy it, "Sure," She rolled her eyes at him before smiling and planting a small kiss on his lips, "You aren't half bad yourself."
He smirked into the kiss and pulled her against him, "And that's why I have a loving girlfriend; to fix my ties." He teased and kissed her forehead as she finished with his tie. He slipped his wallet into his back pocket and checked around the room for anything else he may need. Finding nothing he picked up An's purse and his jacket and smiled at her, "Ready? We should get going soon if we want to make it in time for the reservations."
She felt the heat rise in her cheeks, "That's not the only thing I'm here for, Akaya. I also give wonderful kisses and I'm your biggest fan," she smiled, once in a while she didn't mind letting him have his way, she wasn't really sure about going out to some fancy restaurant but he insisted so she caved. "I'm pretty sure I'm ready, I'd still be in my pjs if I wasn't." she laughed, grabbing her purse from his hand she stuck out her tongue before walking past him to go open the door.
"I know, love," he grinned childishly and opened the door before she could and let her walked through before leading them downstairs to the waiting cab.
Within minutes they were in front of the restaurant a beautiful Italian place. He got out and opened her door and held out his hand to help her out of the car. He'd asked his senpai for help before today, trying to figure out how to make the night perfect. He'd taken hundreds of notes and memorized them all. He was going to be the perfect gentleman even if it killed him.
Looking at the open door, she glanced at him and gave him a small smile before leaving with him. Looking at the entrance she could already tell that it was a very nice restaurant, she suppressed a laugh seeing all the trouble that he was going threw to make things perfect, taking his hand she stepped out of the car and let Kirihara open then door for her, she sniffed slightly and shook her head.
"Hmm, what is it?" Akaya raised his eyebrow, wondering if he did something wrong. Man he knew he was going to mess this up somehow. He just wasn't any good at playing the gentleman.
"Nothing, you're just being different tonight, not that I don't mind." She took her hand in his and gave a slight squeeze before smiling at him. "Happy two year anniversary, Akaya."
Akaya ran his hand through his hair and blushed, "I just want to make everything perfect," He squeezed her hand back gently and smiled, "Happy anniversary, An." With that he leaned down and kissed her gently, drawing a smile and laugh from the cab driver. He pulled back with a deeper blush and looked away from her.
An gave a cheeky grin, "There's nothing wrong with that," She pulled away from the kiss when he heard the laugh of the cab driver, also blushing she looked down at her feet before looking up at him, "So
...Do you want to go inside now?"
"Er yeah..." He led them into the restaurant and talked to the hostess for a moment. Shortly after she led them up a stairway to another level of the restaurant. By the window there was a table separate from all the rest and as they approached it, it revealed a beautiful view of Tokyo. He grinned and pulled her chair out for her, being a professional tennis player had it's advantages.
She wasn't paying much attention to what Akaya and the hostess were talking about, her eyes were fixed on looking at the many couples that were their. She felt a little self-conscious and looked down at her heels. Snapping out of it, she followed the hostess. She blinked and gasped slightly when the reached their table, "Akaya
, It's beautiful."
His face lit up and he turned to her practically glowing, "You like it?" He pulled out her chair and waited for her to sit down. He was glad he'd gone to all of the fancy restaurants to find the perfect one.
She just nodded her head and gave a smile, her eyes almost felt wet, she couldn't believe all the trouble he had went threw for her. Sitting down, she waited for him to sit down before she grabbed his hand tightly, "I love you so much, thank you
for doing all this
."
Akaya squeezed her hand and leaned over to kiss her, she looked like she was going to cry, "I love you too." The waiter brought out a bottle of wine and gave them their menus. When he left Akaya grinned at her, his eyes glowing with happiness, "Thank you for sticking with me for so long, An."
She kissed him back lightly, Her throat felt dry, She couldn't stand it, She loved him so much and at the same time she hated him, he stole her heart and with just a touch she felt so weak, she wasn't strong enough and for that she hated him. Moving aside the menu, she locked her eyes with his. "You don't have to thank me
I think We both needed each other."
He fiddled with the ring box in his pocket as he looked at her. 'Not yet' he thought quietly, 'end of the night, stick to the plan' he smiled at her, "Yeah," He looked embarrassed, but he practiced saying stuff like this in the mirror he could say it to her, it couldn't be that hard right? "I will always need you and I'll keep my promise. I swear it." He flushed bright red and focused on his menu, 'Yes! I said it! I'm amazing!'
She grinned, seeing him flustered was always worthwhile, "You've been good at keeping it, I don't think you'll blow it soon.
Red looks good on you by the way, you should wear it more often," She teased before looking at her own menu. She could see that he was trying really hard, a little to hard, but the thought counts.
"T-thanks...." He stuttered and took a sip of his wine. His hand tightened around the ring case and he he bit his lip lightly, "So, uh....what are you gonna have?" 'You can do this Akaya, keep calm'
She giggled and sipped from her own glass, "Your welcome," She raised an eyebrow 'He's definitely up to something he never like this.' She thought but before dismissing it and smiling at Akaya, "I'm ordering the spinach lasagna and you?"
"I'm gonna get the--uh...the....t-turtle--no...uh tortur--uh...." While Akaya stumbled his way through the name of the pasta the waiter walked up behind him with a small smirk and whispered in his ear, "Tortellini."
"Yeah! Tortellini!" Akaya said happily then turned bright red, "er.."
"Okay one order of tortellini and I'm sorry to have eavesdropped a little, but I believe you said the spinach lasagna right, miss?" The server said politely with a radiant smile. He'd seen a lot of men in this exact same condition before and it always amused him.
Giving him a odd look, she laughed inwardly, "Stick to Japanese, Sweetie." She grinned and looked towards the waiter "Um, yes that's right."
Akaya scratched the back of his head and laughed nervously as the waiter nodded and walked away, "S-so uh after dinner...I was thinking we could go on a walk. There's a really nice park that I was thinking we could go to...."
An nodded her head and smiled "Sure I'd love to! It's perfect outside for a walk," Giving a sideways glance at him she fixed the napkin in her lap, "Akaya, Are you ok? You're acting funny," It kept nagging her, he was rigid and not relaxed, seemed like he was nervous or something.
He jumped a little in his seat, "Of course I'm alright, what makes you think I'm acting funny," he laughed nervously and flailed his arms around comically, "I-I'm just really excited-Yeah!"
She rolled her eyes and shook her head, people were staring at them, "You're just being weird that's all, now stop that! People are staring at us," She kicked his leg under the table and stared at him hard.
He yelped quietly and grabbed his shin under the table, "W-what was that for?!" He said in a hushed whisper.
"You know why, so just calm down, like I said people are staring at us," Her face reddened slightly as she looked away from him and to the window.
"Let 'em stare," he mumbled and looked out the window as well, "Hey I think I can see our apartment from here..." He grinned childishly, his throbbing shin forgotten.
"You can see everything from here, but I don't see it." She smiled back before staring at the dim candle on their table, "It's been so long, two years
, but it's been great maybe we'll last for three or four
, who knows,
I hope so."
Akaya looked back over at her with slight confusion, "Just three or four?" He fiddled with the little velvet box again, "I uh..." He looked at the little glass of wine and smiled a little, "I was thinking a lot longer...you know, if you want to put up with me for that long...."
An laughed and rubbed his hand, "I was just saying a number
" enlacing her hand with his, she looked at him lovingly, "We may fight and sometimes even scream at each other, but I will always love you, you put up with me as much as I put up with you, plus you still have to keep your promise." She whispered.
Akaya grinned again and squeezed her hand gently, "No kidding, you kick..." He stuck his tongue out at her before leaning in and kissing her, "I don't mind the fighting and screaming so much, because afterward we get to make up," he grinned with a slightly dazed and somewhat perverted look in his eyes.
She smiled into the kiss and laughed before squeezing his hand hard, "I can kick harder, you know." She smiled an unpleasant smile. "You still act like a 14 year old, Akaya," She stuck her tongue out at him.
"Hey, I do not!" Akaya stuck his tongue out at her again and moved his legs away from her just in case she decided to prove how hard she could kick.
"Yes you do, not to say that I sometimes don't act immature sometimes, but at least I'm more mature then you," She winked at him and nudged his foot. "Because it's very mature to play footsies," she laughed in between nudges.
Akaya smiled at her and nudged her foot back carefully. His feet were a lot bigger after all. "Hey, guess what," he said with eyes that sparkled in amusement.
She nudged slightly and leaned in closer to him, "What, Akaya? It better not be one of your stupid jokes" She half teased.
"Hey! My jokes are awesome," he fake glared at her, "What I was going to say was, that I love you and I will forever. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me..." He grinned through the whole thing though his hand shook slightly with nervousness in hers.
She swallowed and squeezed his shacking hands, "You too, Akaya.
Before I met you my life was pretty boring, and I was just a workaholic, I forgot how to have fun, pretty odd for me isn't it?" She laughed and kissed him lightly, "I love you with all my heart, Akaya
"
"I love you too," He kissed her again and sat back grinning almost smugly, "And you always used to say I wasn't funny or nice."
She crossed her arms and looked away from his. "Well that's kind of true
I remember that we hated each other and we'd always be mean to each other, but that was a long time ago!" She never really had hated him, but she felt that it was her duty just to tease him and be mean to him.
"I didn't hate you..." He finished off his wine and poured himself another glass, he'd never cared for the bitter liquid but it was what you drank at fancy restaurants, or so Yukimura-buchou had said. "And I was only mean cause you started it." He'd had a lot of fun picking on An in junior high and high school. She was so easy to tease and her angry face was so cute.
Drinking from her own glass she placed it down and pointed at him, "Hey, you started it when you implied that I had incest feeling for my brother, that's gross and really mean." She pouted and opened her mouth to say something when she noticed the waiter coming back with their food and shutting up and putting on a smile.
"I didn't say it that way, you just took it that way," He said in a quiet whisper before the waiter got to the table, he rolled his eyes at the sweet smile that he loved so much. The waiter set their meals down in front of them and excused himself. Akaya stared down at his torture-lini and grinned. It smelled amazing.
An was already digging to her lasagna and had a happy grin on her face, finishing a bite she rolled her eyes at him, "Right
. You so implied it, just tell the truth it's not that hard," she stabbed at her lasagna before taking another bite.
Akaya glared at her and popped some of the turtle-lini into his mouth. Infinitely glad that they didn't taste like turtle, just cheesy goodness, "I implied no such thing," he said trying to sound as polite and formal as he could and failed.
She glared back and pursed her lips. "Let's just drop it, I don't want to fight tonight over something stupid. Not tonight, I'm really enjoying myself and so are you" she said softly. She picked at her food and looked at him with almost sad eyes.
He smiled back at her with an equally sad smile and kissed her forehead, "Sorry," he said quietly, "You're right, I'm having a really good time." He went back to the food and after a while chuckled to himself, "You know, most of the men and women in here are jealous?" He could feel the bitter stares on his back and just like on a court he thrived off of them.
She laughed and sniffed, "Nothing new, sometimes your fans would say things to me and I'd just tell them off." She could care less what they had to say, "There're just jealous that were perfect for each other," She grinned at him before stealing one of his tortellinis and plopping it in her mouth. "They are good."
"Oi," he muttered as she stole his food, after a couple years he'd finally learned to eat slower and it had just resulted in him getting his food stolen again just like when he was a kid. The world was just cruel that way. He sighed and took another bite, he had seen An tell off some of his fans before after a tournament and he had to admit it had been on of the sexiest things he'd ever seen. He smiled to himself at the thought of the little make out session they'd had afterward.
She stuck her tongue out at him "I just wanted to try one, you can have some off mine, I'm already full." She pushed her plate towards him having finished ¾ of it. "It was really big.
Good thing were going for a walk after this at least it will help me digest this thing." She patted her cheek and grinned at him.
He grinned and gladly took her food, in a matter of minutes he had both hers and his finished and he sat back in the chair with a happy sigh, "haaa that was really good...."
She placed a hand under her cheek and grinned at him "It was, you finished pretty fast," She yawned, she couldn't have asked for anything better then tonight and the night was still young and still had many possibilities of getting better, especially to Akayas liking.
Akaya stretched a little as the waiter brought over the bill. He didn't even look at it, just handed the man his card and grinned. Yup, being a pro rocked. When the waiter returned a couple seconds later with the card and the receipt to sign he smiled and signed it. He slipped the card back into his wallet, "Ready to go?"
An rolled her eyes, he was too carefree with money, she didn't even want to know how much this had all cost, she'd probably kill him but now was not the time. Sighing, she nodded and gave a small smile, "Yeah I'm ready," she grabbed her small dark blue purse from her chair and stood up.
He stood ad well and offered his arm out just like he'd seen in the movies and practiced with buchou. He led them back down to the door, earning many stares and a few disappointed sighs. He even heard a couple people mutter something about the 'world famous tennis player.' He was practically glowing with pride and happiness.
She took his arm and grinned, she didn't even care the people were looking. All that she could feel was the deep pressure in her chest , a lovely pressure, she was a happy and head over heels in love with him, she just hoped he felt the same.
His free hand gripped at the ring box as he tried to gather his courage, "It's uh...it's a nice night tonight..." he said lamely and took a deep breath to try and calm himself. He was just going to ask An to spend the rest of her life with him, it was nothing to be nervous about....He shook slightly with nervousness and hoped An didn't notice.
She nuzzled his arm, "It sure is, thanks for tonight, Akaya it was perfect," noticing his arm shake she blinked up at him, "Are you cold or something?" She frowned, "Is something wrong?" Maybe she did something wrong, she didn't understand why he was acting so strange tonight.
"No, I-I've just....got something I wanna ask you...and I'm a bit scared to...because I don't know what you'll say," He smiled at her trying to hide just how scared he really was.
An swallowed and took a deep breath, 'He's not going to ask me is he!?' she thought, and she almost understood why he was acting so weird, she bit her lip, "Then just ask me." She breathed.
Akaya smiled and looked at her as they walked, "I love you, more than anything, I've thought a lot about this and I really want to be with you for the rest of my life, An would you--" He stopped and stared at the form sitting on the swings in front of him, and he felt his heart wrench, "R-ryou...." he couldn't talk to him he couldn't, "A-An w-we need to go, I--I can't stay here, I can't--" He took a couple steps away from her the person on the swings and looked like he was about to cry, "I'm so sorry," he said meaning every word, then he ran.
An's lip trembled, he really was going to propose to her, and she of course was going to say yes, She loved him to much, so much
Noticing him stop, she looked at him and gave him a worried look , "Akaya what's wr-" She stopped, a lump formed in her throat, there he was sitting, looking back at Akaya, she saw his face, "No
Please" she mouthed, she couldn't speak. He stepped away from her and stepped forward, "Akaya, please
Don't!" it was too late he had already ran for it, his words falling on deaf ears, "Akaya!" She yelled after him. She knew why he ran and that's what hurt the most, "Please come back, Akaya, don't leave me alone
!"
