Where: Their room
When: Sometime during vacation

Comments: :D

Considering the natures of two out of three of his roommates, it wasn't very often that Sanada found himself alone in the room... or with the room being so quiet. It was quite nice, actually. He was very close to strangling the two red heads in the room, and was very glad that everyone had gone off somewhere to leave him alone in the room. Sanada sat on his bed, sighed and moved so he was sitting cross-legged. He closed his eyes and felt himself relax. Just a few more days until he could be free of the noisy roommates. He'd just have to tolerate it until then.

Marui didn't just walk into the room, he burst into it with a little too much energy. In his hands, was a treasure. He had snagged it from one of the other guests and now, the need to show it off was too great. His eyes fell on Sanada as he trotted a few feet into the room, the door swinging shut on its own behind him. Perfect. Target.

Holding the stolen item in front of him like something sacred, Marui changed his direction from his own bed to Sanada's instead.

"When it's time to introduce your boyfriend to your folks, help him make a good first impression by impressing him the following set of rules:" he cleared his throat, thinking about how Niou was so going to owe him if he trained Sanada up for him with these nifty cards. "Do tell my mom that she looks young enough to be my sister. Don't ask my dad if you can borrow a fiver to pay for parking."

Ok, the first one he could understand.. but who'd ask the dad for money? Marui sidled closer, sitting down on the edge of the bed across from Sanada's. Namely Echizen's bed. "Do tell them that you're gainfully employed," he continued with the flashcard. "Don't start any stories off with the phrase, 'once when I was drunk....'" Snicker. "Do tell them that they have a lovely home. Don't tell them that I have a slammin' hot body..." Pause. "Even if it's true."

Marui set that flashcard down. "I bet Niou's parents wouldn't care if you did that though," he added.

He could feel himself being all calm and relaxed at this point... when the silence was rudely interrupted by a certain red head coming into the room . Sanada tried to ignore him, keeping his eyes closed so he couldn't see what Marui was doing... until he heard the boy begin talking. What? Introducing your boyfriend to your folks? Wouldn't that be something for girls to do? Well, at least Tezuka wasn't here in the room with Marui. That might be a bit awkward. He opened one eye and glanced at Marui, sighing as he continued talking, this time reading out the most random of things. Sanada wouldn't do any of those things anyway. And why would he need to pay for parking? He didn't drive.

He sighed and opened both his eyes as Marui sat down on Echizen's bed, watching him and feeling mightily unamused. Alright, so he had been drunk once, but he would never tell anyone about that particular time, mainly because he couldn't remember it. And the compliments about the home were just customary. ... He frowned at Marui's added comment about the last piece of advice. "... I'm not Niou's boyfriend." Sanada said flatly. At least, he didn't think he was. "And I don't think I'll meet Niou's parents anytime soon."

"Whatever," Marui said to Sanada's comments. It was obvious that if they weren't going out, sooner or later, Sanada and Niou would be. And Sanada was the kind of guy that needed to be molded into shape. Marui flipped through the cards. "Listen to this," he started. "The number of days a guy waits to call is loaded with meaning. If you want to figure out if he's on the prowl or in the palm of your hand, consider the following timeline:

If after a successful date, he calls you at 7 am the very next day," his eyes slid down to the answer, "it means he has serious stalker potential." Marui couldn't help the grin at that. Was Sanada a stalker? Hmmm. "If he calls two days later, he's interested but doesn't want to appear eager." There was an approving nod at this. His eyes sneaked back to Sanada briefly, then to the card again. "If he calls a week later, he's playing the field but wants to keep his options open. And if he sends you a flirtatious text message at midnight, it's because he's only got one thing in mind."

And the last one. "But if he fails to call at all...." there was a dramatic pause now, "it's because he's an ugly selfish loser who you weren't that crazy about to begin with...." now he had to laugh, "and he might be gay."

Marui flicked the flashcard towards Sanada, watching it bounce off the other boy. "So, which one where you?"

As Marui continued reading from the flashcards he felt his fingers begin to twitch in irritation and fought the urge to pick up a pillow and smother Marui with it. That would be bad. Rikkai would be losing one half of a doubles pair. He was very glad however that the two other roommates were not present at the current moment, since it would not be good for them to be hearing all of this. His eye twitched as Marui didn't shut up and kept reading. How was this relevant!? Why did it matter when he rang someone? He had never rung Niou anyway that he could remember. He had always left it up to someone who could actually tolerate Niou over the phone.

Sanada pushed the flashcard off his bed onto the floor, again trying to stop himself from throwing something at the other boy or smother him with a pillow. Again he had to remind himself about the doubles pairing. Very important. "... I don't call Niou." Why was he even listening to this? Or rather, why was Marui even bothering him with these things!? "I don't see why it's important."

Yes, Sanada needed help. Luckily, Marui was a genius. He tossed the flashcards aside. "So what do you do together then?" he asked, picking up the book that had been hiding behind the set. "Do you sit around and stare? Maybe you grunt at him now and then?"

"I know it worked for the cavemen but you're not living in that era, you know." Flipping through the book, Marui pointed to a page. He was too far away for Sanada to actually be able to read, but, "It says right here, the third step is communication. It's pretty important if it's on the top three." He could see how much he was bothering Sanada and really, deep down, he was pretty sure he should shut up and leave the guy alone but this wasn't junior high anymore and he didn't have to be intimidated....he didn't.

His eye twitched. Why was Marui so curious? Did Sanada go poking into Marui and Tezuka's relationship? Well, aside from the fact that he would probably be extremely scarred at the thought of Tezuka doing anything other than play tennis... Sanada really did not give a damn. Marui could at least be asking Niou about these things rather than him. "... We've been training together." he said, frowning slightly. Well yes, there was other stuff they did, but he would probably commit seppaku before he told Marui about any of it.

"We do communicate." He thought they communicated quite well with each other. Perhaps not overly that much due to well, Sanada wasn't very comfortable saying a lot of things at once and had some issues with expressing himself verbally, but he didn't think their communication skills were bad. "... We talk." Again, they also did other stuff to 'communicate', but that was private.

The look Marui gave him said he didn't believe it. Really, Sanada's communications skills looked pretty rusty. "Ok." He tossed the book aside too. It landed on the floor with a small thud. "Are you getting him something for Christmas? Gifts was on that list too," he said, starting to search for a lollipop under the pillow before remembering this wasn't his bed.

Right, right. "I can't figure out what to get Tezuka." He frowned just a little. Well, Sanada was of the same mold as Tezuka wasn't he? Just grumpier and without the sense of right that Tezuka had which made him so easy to push around. "I saw this awesome survival kit that all fits in a cup and just looks cool but that shouldn't be the only thing." This was their first Christmas, it should be special. He didn't want to exactly say that out loud though. "I saw some nice rings too but I don't know if I want to get him a ring, you know?"

Marui rolled on his side, looking at Sanada expectantly, as if he was really waiting for an answer. "Or do you think rings are ok? I mean, we haven't even been seeing each other for that long. What if it jinxes it?"

"... I'm knitting him a scarf." Rikkai colours and everything. He had asked Niou earlier what his favourite animal was and had eventually gotten a decent answer out of him. So he was going to put a tiger on the end of the scarf for decoration. He shifted uncomfortably on the bed, feeling extremely awkward talking about this to Marui. "And I gave him a gift for his birthday." Alright, the book was probably not the most intelligent of gifts, but the family rock had been good, right?

His expression turned grumpy as Marui started chattering about Tezuka. Why would Sanada know what to get Tezuka? Why would he even want to get Tezuka something for Christmas or for any other event in the year? But he supposed, if he answered Marui's questions, maybe it would get the red head out of here faster and Sanada could go back to relaxing. "... measure his finger properly." Sanada frowned and shifted again on the bed. "Get him something that will remind him of you." Like the family rock he'd given Niou. Though Niou hadn't actually known what it was until he'd explained it.

Marui's expression turned frustrated. "But that's the problem," he said, bunching up Echizen's pillows under his head. "I don't know what will remind him of me and not be... stupid." He nibbled on his lower lip, feeling aggravated by this whole gift giving thing. Really, people shouldn't be so hard to shop for. "And I don't know what kind of message a ring would give. I mean, I know it's pretty intense when you're giving one to a girl but what does it mean when you're giving one to a guy?"

The nice thing about stressing out in front of Sanada was, that you knew the other boy was going to try to erase it from his memory as soon as humanly possible. This is why it made him such a desirable target for gift indecision. "What kind of thing are you hoping for?" Really, even if Sanada's replies were different from what he knew Tezuka liked, at least it'd give him ideas. And if not.... well, if not, he could plot some more later on.

This whole, not having sugar to stick in his mouth thing was getting aggravating though. He searched his pockets, knowing he'd tossed out the pack before coming in but hoping for a stray stick of gum.

Score! Marui pulled out a sorry looking stick of gum, that was half wrapped, and stuck it in his mouth. "I mean, even you have a list of things you want, right?" Marui's eyes widened. Just a bit. "Maybe Tezuka has a list and I just haven't seen it yet." Marui sat up in a flash. "You should ask him about it for me. Sneakily." The first bubble inflated and popped loudly.

"... I think it would mean the same thing." Since he assumed that Marui was sort of the 'girl' in the relationship, he thought it would be like a girl giving a guy a ring. Actually he didn't know if that was the same as giving a girl a ring. Why was he even thinking about this!? After this he was going to go dunk his head in water continuously. "You could just tell him what you mean by the ring." There logical. Just as long as Tezuka didn't wear the ring on his marriage finger, it was all fine.

He shrugged as he was asked what he wanted for christmas. Nothing really. "I don't care what I get." Just as long as it wasn't mould, coal or anything from that recipe book he'd given Niou. It was the thought that counted right? Maybe if he told Marui that, it would help. No, he sounded like a retard in his mind when he said that. He was silent as Marui did a hunt around for sugar and tried not to grimace as he saw the piece of gum stuck in the other boy's mouth. That seemed unhygienic. "I don't have a list." Well okay, he had been eying that new Babolat racquet but that wasn't important.

"I am not asking Tezuka what he wants for christmas."

"How can you not care what you get?" Marui scoffed. He put his fingers to his face, mimicking Atobe. "I see through you. There's something, you just don't want to give me any good ideas for Tezuka." Jerk. He wouldn't say that to Sanada's face though. His hand dropped lazily again, and he kicked on the bed, noticing with satisfaction that the snow from his shoes had left a nice wet spot near the foot of the mattress.

"So, you think if I got Tezuka a ring and said, hey it's just a ring and doesn't really mean anything, he'd buy it?" Marui's brow rose archedly. Well, Tezuka -was- pretty good at accepting what he was told. Sometimes. Or, at least not arguing against it. "Why can't you ask him? It's not like he'd expect you to give him a gift. And he wouldn't suspect you of gathering information for me. It's perfect."

"... There's a new Babolat racquet I would like." Sanada said grumpily, his expression souring as he noticed Marui copying Atobe's pose. Urgh. If Sanada had to get Tezuka a gift, he'd probably give him something tennis related. Maybe a pair of wrist weights. He wanted to tell Marui off for dirtying someone else's bed but then remembered that the bed was Echizen's and he didn't say anything.

Sanada nodded at the question. Yes, he thought that Tezuka would probably accept that. He was serious enough not to question it outloud in any case. "I don't like Tezuka." he said bluntly, crossing his arms over his chest. "... Just tie him to his bed and make him happy or something." he said this as fast as possible and scowled when he'd finished. There. An idea. "Or get him a fish."

A fish? No way. Marui dismissed the idea as quickly as Sanada had said it. The one before.... well. He looked up at the ceiling. "I can't get him anything tennis related," he said just as grumpily. "He'd think of tennis instead of thinking of me." Which wasn't exactly what he wanted. It figured that Sanada would be thinking of a new racquet. He wouldn't be surprised if that was on the top of Tezuka's list too but he'd crossed off tennis equipment as a possibility pretty early on.

No, it had to be something special. He chewed loudly on his gum, smacking it every few minutes as he thought. "If I tied him to the bed..." Marui started slowly, "it'd feel like I were giving myself a present instead." Which, normally wasn't bad but Marui wanted this to be good. And lasting. Sex was one night and it was gone. Gone forever if it wasn't any good too. Not that he thought Tezuka wouldn't be good. Shit, why did Sanada send his mind that way?

"Ok, how about this, what are really bad ideas?" He sat up, pulling his knees to his chest.

"... Tennis related stuff is good." As long you got the right sort of tennis stuff it was fine. Tezuka liked Mizuno, didn't he? Why didn't Marui just go get him a lot of Mizuno tennis things? And he could... engrave his name on the tennis racquet so Tezuka would always think of him or something equally as disgusting as that. Sanada coughed awkwardly as Marui bought up the tying the bed option. He had sort of hoped that Marui hadn't heard that suggestion.

"... I'm sure Tezuka would like it." Which was probably true. Niou had seemed like he enjoyed it when Sanada tried it. Not that he was going to share that with Marui. "... You could get someone to tie you to the bed instead?" That was... sort of an option.

He frowned at the question. Bad ideas? "... I don't know."

He was really not going to get much more usefulness out of Sanada. But.. being tied to a bed wouldn't be so bad. He'd have to think about that. Marui slung his legs over the edge of the bed, slowly getting back to his feet. "Nothing tennis related," he repeated. "But I like that second idea."

Because, if he was the one tied up, then it wouldn't feel so much like his gift. Though... he didn't trust Tezuka to actually play his part if he was tied up. Marui groaned and rubbed his palms against his eyes. Then dropped them to spare a backwards glance for the other boy. "Thanks. I'm going to look and see if there's anything to buy around here." He doubted it but maybe something interesting would show up. Like, fate. His eyes slid towards the book and flashcards. "You can read those if you want," he added before turning to make his way to the door with a series of successive bubble pops.

Not bothering with a goodbye (because they were rooming together, Marui was bound to see Sanada again sooner or later) Marui made his way out of the room and into the blinding white outside. Once he was out in the fresh air and in a less oppressive atmosphere, he was able to admire the way Niou's influence must have made Sanada more patient. Really, back home, Marui doubted Sanada would have even bothered to talk back about this.

Sanada waited until Marui was out of the room, frowning a little at the lack of a farewell, but ignored it. He quickly kicked the flashcards and book underneath Echizen's bed and sighed. He was still slightly confused as to why he had had that conversation with Marui in the first place, or why he had actually sat and contributed to it until Marui had left. Obviously Niou was getting to him. After all, he couldn't really just slap Niou around the face everytime he tried to have a conversation, and maybe that was increasing his tolerance for annoying conversations. Though the thought of asking Tezuka what he wanted for Christmas still made his skin crawl. Sanada glanced at the door to make sure that it was closed and shut his eyes again, telling himself that the conversation had never happened. He had never just discussed tying Tezuka to the bed for Christmas with Marui. They had been talking about... tennis. Yes. Just tennis.
