[AU][Open Log] Ten Years Later....

Feb 06, 2012 20:05

[Mod note: Open thread, now through the end of AU week. Since it was mentioned in the comments of one of the character journals, we thought it would be interesting if there was a place for these conversations to happen if the muns want to do so publicly. Participation is not required. And since there is only one room for it, I see no need for ( Read more... )

Yanagi sat at the bar, taking a time out. He had a feeling that he would be hounded by some of the current students, since this was where his current career had taken off. He didn't think just playing tennis could make a person famous, but there it was, and there were several that wanted his advice and such.

It was good to have the chance the people watch, something he hadn't done in a while. Perhaps someone would approach, and he wouldn't mind at all to strike up a conversation with them.

Someone else who was a professional tennis player by now was Tooyama Kintarou. He spotted Yanagi and quickly made a beeline to him, a whiskey glass already in his hand. "Yo, yo, yo, yo!"

"Hello, Kintarou." REnjig greeted him. "How have you been doing?" It was funny how even though they were both professionals, they didn't see too much of each other, or so it seemed. Though Kintarou was hard to miss with his bright red hair and bright personality.

"Just fine, just fine." Uninvited, he sat down, long legs crossing over each other. "Hey dude, what was up with that game? You totally weren't on par, dude..."

Renji paused, thinking about it. "I know I wasn't." He said quietly. "I was distracted by a family matter. Something I know I shouldn't have allowed to affect my game." He smiled though. "It does happen."

"Yeah..." Kintarou dipped his head to the side, looking thoughtful and slightly concerned. "So... Things better now?"

"For the most part." Renji said. "And how have your matches been going?" He asked.

"I'm on a winnin' streak, I think. It's going good~"

His face darkened. "Well, there's some idiot who tries to get me framed for drugs or something, and I don't know who it is. Says there's no way I haven't been taking steroids, yeah? Stupid fuck..."

"That's always good to hear." Renji told him.

He raised his eyebrows at that revelation. There had been rumors going around, but he wasn't entirely sure about them. He almost wanted to tease the younger man, but this was too serious a topic to joke about. "I'd heard about that. And I agree, you certainly don't seem to be on any sort of drugs. There's just people that get jealous of success. I've had my share of accusations as well, Kintarou. If there's anything I can do to help you, I certainly will."

"I wouldn't say no to help." He leaned forward, chin resting on his fingers. "You're good with piercing together information and such, right? Build a solid defense? I never think things through, you know? I can say that I'm innocent until I'm blue in the face, but if I don't have any facts to back me up, I'm toast. And that's unnerving as hell."

"I certainly do that. I'm not a lawyer, but I can certainly put the information into perspective." It certainly would be horrible to have a career ruined over false information and dirty tricks, but it was nothing new in the world of sports. "I understand what you mean though. Thinking ahead isn't something you have a reputation for. I think that's how you have your winning streak now." He smiled to take the sting out of his words. "It confuses your opponents."

"Huh?" Headtilt. He still wasn't the brightest crayon in the box...

Renji chuckled. "It's certainly why I dislike playing against you. You're still very wild and unpredictable. However, that's also part of the excitment, so it is balanced out I suppose."

"Wanna play now?" He grinned for a moment, then looked sheepish.

"Probably not, huh? Uh... I want a drink." He had to save the situation somehow, he couldn't come off as the biggest tennis nerd on the planet! That wasn't the adult thing to do. He thought. Maybe.

Twenty-seven years old, and he still felt like seventeen, most of the time.

"Perhaps we could play a match for the students at the end of the week." Renji agreed. He wouldn't mind a match with the still hyper man, but running off in the midst of this would be rather rude. That should appease the other.
