Momoshiro shifted the pack strapped to his back with a low grunt and continued his trek. It was cold out, but the former Seigaku member had dressed warmly in preparation and even brought a blanket to keep himself comfortable in his wait. He had wanted to bring the snake with him as well, but Kaidoh hadn't been answering his phone and wasn't in his room. Momo sure as hell wasn't gonna go fetch him if he was curled up with Akutsu. So he was here on his own, having picked a spot somewhat retired from the main campus and the lights. He had stumbled across the clearing on his second day there during a jog in which he'd accidentally gone off course and quite liked it. Sometimes he'd go there to practice his swings or work out in peace. Reaching his destination, Momo dropped the pack of supplies and the lounge chair draped over his shoulders with a loud grunt. It was only then that he spotted the dim figure standing a few feet away from him, suddenly more alert. There... weren't any ghosts here, were there?! "H-hello?!"
Tomoka had been excited for the meteor shower but upon returning back to campus nearly forgot about it. In her moment of realization she had prepared what she could and made her way to a random spot just far enough away she wouldn't have a problem seeing it. Ever since the failure of Horio to meet her for their supposed date or whatever the heck it was he was trying to pull on her she had been distracted whenever there. Going home for the holidays helped but sure enough when she was back the genius tried to see her and she just decided to ignore him until she was done simmering over it. While she had been preoccupied with things she had also gone to see Ryoma and shortly after fell asleep back in her room as she hadn't rested much. It was a good thing one of her brother's stole her mother's phone to message her about the cosmic event or she would have completely missed it. But she had managed to run out of time to try and invite anyone else... or so she thought.
Stepping out from the spot she had thought to settle alone she noticed someone there and obviously they caught her at the same time. "Ara, and here I thought I was all alone." she chimed as she stepped out of the darkness and into better view for the both of them.
If it was a ghost, it would probably be the most normal sounding one Momo would ever see in his life. It was definitely female, and there was something familiar about that tone. Still, it wasn't until she was out of the shadows and illuminated by Momo's flashlight that recognition finally sunk in.
"Tomoka?!"
It had been quite some time since Momo had seen the younger girl, but she wasn't exactly someone you could easily forget. That kind of personality stuck with you throughout the years. It was a surprise, but not exactly an unpleasant one. He hadn't even heard she was here!
"Well, if it isn't Momo-chan-senpai~" she giggled as the flashlight illuminated her for a moment. At least he didn't completely blind her in the process though knowing she had momentarily spooked him was amusing. He wasn't exactly a senpai she could go forgetting either, especially considering they had plenty of moments cheering together in the past. A good cheerleader never forgot her cheering partners after all~
Tomoka moved a bit closer so he wouldn't need the silly flashlight for them to be able to see each other to talk. "Whatever brings you out tonight, senpai? Trying to chase some ghosts?" she teased lightly. "Or have you come out to make a few hundred wishes?" It would be a pleasant surprise if he was out to see the meteor shower like she was. She had heard that he was at the camp now but hadn't been able to drop by or find him to greet him just yet so it was just as good a time as any since it meant she wouldn't have to be out there alone.
About to ask the same thing of her, Momo burst out into another wide grin. His hand moved to scratch at the nape of his neck, head tilting back to look at the sky. "I have my wish list ready to go. You?" And his gaze was once again moving to the petite girl in front of him. It felt good to see someone from those days other than Ryoma and Kaidoh.
It was then that he noticed her lack of gear, glancing around and seeing nothing. Had she left it closer to the tree line..? "Oi. Didn't you bring blankets and a chair?"
She smiled at that, Momoshiro was one of the few senpai who were just about always lighthearted and followed along with her teasing. "I've got a few prepared." she answered with a wink. Though she had to admit he was indeed a lot more prepared than she had been which was impressive. "Sadly just what I have on and a thermos with some tea and some snacks." she admitted, definitely not her best planning but at least she was layered decently. However it would get colder while they were out there just watching the stars which she hadn't taken into account ahead of time.
Momo placed his hand on his hips, giving her a frown at the admission. "Oi. Oi. Where was your head?" Even he had known better than to just head out here, away from any familiar comforts such as a heater without any supplies. There really wasn't anything for it now, however. The boy set about to work, quickly unfolding the lounge chair he had been planning on laying on while watching the sky. "You can take the chair." He motioned for her to sit down, blanket in hand to drape it over her small form. "Wouldn't be right to let a girl freeze. Not right at all."
"You don't have to go that far." she blinked, picking up her food stuffs and bringing them closer to where he had set up his spot. "I admire how much of a gentleman you are senpai, but really I'm more of a sharing kind of girl anyway." Tomoka stated as she then moved closer to him. Gently, she tried to push him down into the chair instead. "You take a seat and share your lap with me and I'll share my treats." she winked. There was no way she was going to let him suffer for her own problem of being unprepared after all. It would have felt awkward taking his chair and making him sit on the cold ground or have to stand the whole time.
"E-eh!?" Momo blinked at her. She wanted to sit on his lap?!? It was a little embarrassing how easily she managed to push him back into the chair, the tall boy sprawling ungracefully with a low grunt at impact. His elbow slammed into one of the metal sides and sent pain ringing up his arm. Later he would blame it on his shock and her freakish strength. And never, ever tell Kaidoh or Echizen that he'd been downed by a tiny girl.
Tomoka had to amidst she was a little surprised by how easily she had pushed him down herself, though it was equally amusing. She felt a little bad when she heard him hit the metal though but it meant all the more reason for him to take the seat first. Taking the blanket from him she wrapped it around him instead and then paused. "Unless you don't want to share you lap with me... I can always just go back to the spot I started at." she frowned a little. She knew he was a bit of a pushover but it seemed he might have become a bit more of one now, or maybe it was just a girl thing but she planned to play it up. After all this would be the best way for them to enjoy the meteor shower and keep warm.
The blanket fell over him and Momo did little more than stare. Sure, the girl had been pushy way back in middle school, but this... it was like an entire new level. She'd obviously evolved into her bossy ways. A part of him wanted to protest, because... well. He wasn't quite sure why. After all, there was the rather enthusiastic part of his brain telling him that having such a cute girl in his lap was a tremendous idea. Still. Momo was sure there was a reason why it wasn't a good thing. Somewhere. The protest never quite made it past his lips, however. Part of it being that she worded things in such a way that he would feel like a bag of dirt if he denied her access to his lap. Huh. Girls were tricky like that. Making a grumbled protest and with cheeks burning red, Momo moved the blanket aside so she could climb on and they'd be able to pull it atop of both of them. "Don't fall asleep on me."
Victory! A small one but still notable and one that would definitely make both of their nights more fun. Slipping onto his lap she happily let him wrap the blanket around them both like she had hoped and relaxed, more than happy to be barricaded from the cold. "Don't you fall asleep under me either." she giggled lightly as she turned to pat his hot cheek lightly. It was a good thing his blush was hard to make out in the darkness for his sake or she would have teased him further. But before she could think of saying much else or wondering how long before the show would start she saw something shimmer and shoot across the sky and leaned back into him. "Ooh, it's starting! Did you see it?" she asked excitedly.
No, falling asleep beneath her wasn't exactly at the top of Momo's things to worry about. She was a warm and solid weight pressing down against him, feeling entirely too nice by half. Momo had a far harder time relaxing than she did. Her pat dragged another discontented grumble from the tall youth, but he made no motion to shove her off his lap. Then his attention was arrested by her words, eyes immediately flying to the sky. He'd missed it, but continued watching with bated breath. Not long after his vigilance was rewarded by another bright streak flashing across the sky. Momo laughed under his breath and squeezed his eyes shut, making a playful wish. "Did you see that one?"
Soon enough the whole sky seemed to light up with them. At first it was a bit slow; a few here and there, but they started shooting from all directions soon enough. "It's beautiful~" she sighed happily, resting against her makeshift chair of a senpai now. She was having so much fun trying to announce when she saw one originally to see if he had as well she had stopped making wishes. It was unreal to see the night sky come alive and also sort of made someone feel small. For Tomoka it definitely was helping her forget her worries and concentrate on nothing but watching and enjoying the pleasant view and of course equally pleasant, not to mention warm, company.
Momo too soon became caught up in the light show going on above their head and forgot all about the tension that had been hounding him since arriving at the school, or even the embarrassment of having her resting on his lap. Without even noticing, he'd somehow slid an around her waist to better settle her against him, his voice a low rumble against her ear the few times he spoke. Although he had planned this as being his time away from everything and everyone, he found himself enjoying her company and the bright quality of her voice as they took in the beauty of the meteor shower.
Tomoka didn't quite notice how close they were at first as she too was distracted by the show above them. Soon enough though she found herself snuggling close to him, comforted by the arm around her and tickled by the voice rumbling into her ear. It was definitely enough to keep her warm all night as the stars didn't seem like they would be resting yet either. It was too bad they couldn't share it with everyone else but somehow it felt perfect just being able to watch it with one other person.
After a while, there wasn't much to do but simply admire the beauty of it. The night grew colder, but Momo felt none of it with the warm body above him providing plenty of heat. Heat which soon made him fall into a drowsy state. Perhaps he shouldn't have joked about falling asleep, because he could feel his own eyelids growing heavier. Nose cold, he turned his face into the fragrant warmth of her hair, not realizing the moment his eyes fell shut completely. He wasn't asleep, not really. He could still feel the cool breeze tossing strands of her hair against his cheek and the soft up and down of her breathing. But he was as damn close to it as he could get. "Nng. You smell good."
The cold nose brushed against the back of her neck as well and momentarily jolted her from getting a bit dozy as well. He was a comfortable seat after all, and quite the snuggly companion in the cold night. It didn't help she had equally become his human body pillow in the process as well. But she couldn't say that she minded much, as intimate as it probably looked it was relaxing and comfortable for them both. Reaching back she ran a hand through his hair gently, leaning back into him as he nuzzled her hair. "Not falling alseep on me, are you senpai?" she checked on him, jokingly but also a bit concerned for if he really did. While they were keeping each other warm now there wouldn't be much they could do to keep each other warm all night long... well, other than a few things but that required not quite falling asleep too.
"Hmm?" Momo blinked, trying to register the words spoken to him before shaking his head. "No!" Well, yes. Yes he was, but not anymore. Giving a wide yawn, the tennis player rubbed at his eyes with the hand of the arm not around her, slipping back into full consciousness from his dozing state. "How long do you want to stay out here?"
She couldn't help giggle lightly as he sprung awake himself. "Oh I don't know, if you need to be put to bed soon then I won't keep you up past your bedtime." she winked, tracing along his jawline and back up to playfully poke his nose. "I think the snacks I brought up are cold now too though... but it's so cold to move just yet." Tomoka sighed, this time not trying to be playful or joke around. They did have to leave at some point or else they'd both probably end up catching colds but there was no need to leave right away. "Besides, the stars still look amazing from here."
Now that he's awake and aware of their position once more, the soft caress is enough to have blood rushing to his face in another blush. He can only hope the darkness is enough to cover it from her sight. Despite the embarrassment, he can't help but enjoy the feeling of her touch, turning into it like a dog seeking affection. "I don't have a bedtime brat!" And just to be obnoxious and pay her back for the comment, he reaches up to ruffle her hair. Except it doesn't work as well with long hair as it does with shorter strands. Oh well. "We can stay longer."
Well... she should have known it was going to happen eventually. Momoshiro always looked like the kind of guy who was silly enough to ruin the mood but she wasn't expecting him to ruin her hair too. "Oh that's right, I forgot you're a big boy now." she huffed a lightly, pulling slightly away as she tried to fix her hair. Honestly, in the dark she'd never be able to get it back to normal. Not that it should have really mattered since it also meant he couldn't see it very well either; but really messing with a girl's hair was just a big no! Tomoka turned her attention back to the sky... completely as she tried to simmer down and pray her hair wasn't tangled after the mess.
It wasn't so much of a struggle to stay awake after that, although he would catch his eyelids slipping from time to time. Eventually the lights began to slow and with more time fade some. There were still enough to keep them entranced, but it was clear the shower was past it's peak. It was also late enough to be considered early by some and the air had grown far colder than before. Momo prodded her side, tugging the blanket up a little higher over them even as he spoke of leaving. "We should head back. It's late."
Only this time it had been her turn to doze off a bit, or rather completely as she rested against him in sleep. She hadn't meant to at all especially while she was still trying to pout earlier about the whole messing up her hair business. But once again the night sky was a bit too entrancing and a bit of a strain to stay awake for to look at for too long. It was tiring to watch so many meteorites after all, and despite being upset with him momentarily he was really comfortable to sleep on. Even the prodding at her sides wasn't enough to really stir her since she had been out for a bit now.
"Oi?" Momo poked at her side again and got no response. His eyes narrowed, trying to shift to better look at her face. "Tomoka." It was then that he caught sight of the closed eyes, the girl clearly resisting waking up. "Che. And she told me not to fall asleep. Can't let her just sleep. I just can't." Although she looked incredibly cute doing so, Momo admitted to himself. Fingers tugged playfully at her hair, not actually hard enough to hurt. "Brat, wake up."
She wasn't going to budge; at least not that easily. The tugs at her hair only made her curl up closer to him and cling on as she sought more warmth from the chilly air. Besides, he was pretty comfortable and she had drifted off so much she was sure she was back in her bed and not sleeping on top of her senpai. He really needed to find a better way to communicate with her than messying her hair...
"This girl..." Momo murmured in exasperation. The thing was, she was a girl. Something that Momo's body became more and more aware of each time she shifted or wiggled in his lap. Other than screaming in her ear, Momo wasn't sure of what to do. Shaking her didn't seem to be having much success either. Maybe if he just dumped her on the floor... Amused at the mental image at least although not mean enough to do it, the power player allowed himself to nuzzle into the crown of her head. She smelled really good.
She stirred slightly feeling him nuzzle against her but she wasn't close to waking again. His murmuring was just comforting ambient noise to her as she snuggled up closer until she was almost clinging onto him while she napped in his lap. She had become quite the heavy sleeper thanks to dealing with her brothers at home. One had to learn to sleep through the chaos sometimes and she had come quite accustomed to it. Though she wouldn't have thought she could manage it while with a guy late at night; which was turning more into the early morning now.
"Tomoka!" Momo's voice did something he wasn't even aware it could do. Although he didn't take any time at all to worry about it. No one had been around to hear and tease him for the high pitch whine anyway. What did worry him was the way Tomoka's last shift had brought her to practically face Momo, breasts soft and pliant against his chest. Not to mention the brush against a rather... interested part of his anatomy. Momo's face flamed red and he silently and frantically cursed being a teenage boy and the hormones that came along with it. Carelly, ever so carefully, he began trying to shift her to the side. Damn. The girl clung on like a leech.
"Mmhm...?" Tomoka slowly opened her eyes, the strange call of her name finally stirring her awake. It was enough for her to push away from him so she wasn't laying her chest on his at least as she rubbed her eyes a little. "What is it..?" she questioned softly with a small yawn, vision blurry and noticing it was still dark. She hadn't quite been jogged awake as fast as he had been and was still a bit out of it.
She pushed somewhat away from him and Momo breathed a sound of relief, letting his too warm body sink down as far as possible on the chair. "It's late! We should head back," he explained quickly and hoped she'd take the hint to get the hell off of his lap already.
After a few moments Tomoka finally woke up enough to realize what he was talking about. The cold air that finally hit her face was enough to jolt her a bit too and she ended up stealing the blanket to wrap it around herself as she finally slipped off his lap. She had little idea what an affect she had had on him after the nap just that she was still sleepy after. "What time is it..?" she questioned sleepily, holding back another yawn. Not that she really did want to know... she would be off all the next day staying out as late as they had.
Chilly wind suddenly attacked Momo's body, dragging a loud gasp from him. Shaking his head from the sudden shock, he pushed himself off the chair with a groan under his breath. It was easy to see she was still half asleep, but Momo was fine with that. They were both tired, but it had been worth it in his opinion. "Almost six," the senior replied as he began folding up the chair and packing everything up except the blanket.
Tomoka made a face at that. "Why am I not in bed..?" she moaned slightly, trying to bury herself in the blanket. The trek back to campus seemed so far away now. She was really regretting falling asleep and showing up unprepared in the first place. Which reminded her... "Sorry about that senpai, hope I didn't ruin your time." she mumbled, wrapped up in the blanket so it covered her almost completely now. It was a good makeshift extra coat layer even if it wasn't as warm as when they were sitting together.
"Because you had a thousand wishes to make," Momo replied with a grin. After making sure everything was packed and they weren't leaving anything behind, he slung both bags over his shoulders. The boy took enough time to adjust the blanket over her, tucking back the loose strands of her hair. "Come on. I'll walk you back to your room."
Tomoka nodded and managed to will herself to put one foot in front of another and follow along with him back to the dorms. Even though she had ended up staying out much later than she had wanted it had been worth it. There wasn't a whole lot of conversation between them throughout the night but it was nice to have the change of atmosphere and company. "Thanks for making one of those wishes come true then~" she smiled up to him as they got closer.
"Eh?!" Momo looked honestly started at her words, violet eyes widening. He'd made a wish come true? That was kind of cool. Like a fairy, but manlier and without the tights or gay wings. "What did I do?"
"Kept me warm all night~" she teased, nudging him lightly. Seeing him get all excited at saying so was amusing to her and helping to wake her up a little. Though she probably would get no sleep now thanks to it but at least it had been fun.
"Tch." He gave a small laugh, bumping into her lightly with his elbow. not with any real force as to not knock her over. "What kind of lame wish is that? You just need a heater." His own wishes, however, would remain a secret. By that time they'd reached the door to her room and Momo turned to face her. It felt oddly like a date and the entire concept made him feel somewhat awkward. "Good night."
Unwrapping herself from the blanket she stood on her toes so she could wrap it around him as she grabbed her own things from him. Before returning back to the ground she left a small kiss on his cheek. "Good night, senpai." she winked, slipping into her room silently before he could react. She would have to get to bed quietly so she didn't wake her roommate and hopefully wouldn't sleep the rest of the day away. But even if she did at least she had a good night to dream about.
Momoshiro spluttered, completely taken off guard by the kiss. That it was his first kiss, however chaste, he would never, ever mention. (Because his friends would mock him to death.) "Oi!" But by the time his brain engaged enough for actual speech, she had already closed the door on his face. Momo shook his head and tugged the blanket closer. A blanket still warm from her body heat. A small grin quirked his lips, turning into a soft chuckle. "Brat," he murmured under his breath before turning away and heading for his own room. That had gone better than expected.
