It had been a good game, Kin thought. Kevin had been a much better player than he had expected, and he had actually had fun, chasing the ball over the court. It had been a while since he had played someone who could stand up to him for at least a period of time. He couldn't wait until he actually met up with Koshimae however, and got to play him. It was strange though; he hadn't spotted the green haired boy on the courts yet. At all. He guessed they hadn't matched their time down there, no biggie, but it was still a bit disheartening. He had thought he'd play Koshimae the first day he arrived to this school. But, apparently not.
Well, now he was meeting up with an old friend at least, and he couldn't wait to see her, even if the little brat could be a pain in the butt and then some. (He guessed she thought the same about him, but it wasn't as if he had ever asked her. Maybe. Probably. He couldn't really remember.) He found her door and knocked lightly on it.
"Monkey wants bananaaaaa~~!"
Miyuki wasn’t surprised how fast it took the guy to show up at her door asking for bananas. She was tempted to open the door and simply throw the peels at him but she didn’t feel like eating them herself so she was stuck with a bunch of bananas. Throwing them would be a waste too since they would probably bruise if knocked against the monkey man’s rock head. But all the jokes and insults aside she was happy to know Kintarou was there now. After so many of her Shitenhouji family arrived and then suddenly left she had been feeling a bit lonely. Sure her brother was around but he didn’t live on campus and she didn’t want to bother him too much. She wasn’t there to be a clingy little sister she was there to try and be independent too... sort of, maybe, a little bit?
Slipping out of her chair she opened the door and shoved the bananas into his hands, tongue stuck out stubbornly. "Took you long enough~"
"That's rude," he huffed, grinning at her. He noticed that he was a good head and a half taller than her by now. It was cute. He couldn't help but ruffle her hair a bit, while he sauntered inside, gangly and mostly knees and elbows and his mop of dark red hair. He immediately peeled one banana, shoving half of it into his mouth. Before he had even swallowed, he continued:
"I was like totally fast. I'm the fastest there is! I mean, I'm not Kenya, but who cares about details?"
I think she'd be more concerned with you spewing banana mush everywhere than your speed, monkey boy...
"Still not fast enough." Miyuki huffed a little, also having noticed the considerable height difference. One of these days she’d get taller, darn it; especially if her brother was any indication of things! But the petty things aside she closed the door behind them and rolled her eyes a little as he shoved down another banana. He was still the endless blackhole stomached Kin-chan. Which would be good whenever she or An baked too much.
"And ‘sides you’re still super late no matter what." Considering she had beat him to camp that was saying something since she had to try harder to get there than most of the others since she was younger.
He grinned and nodded, plopping down on her bed, legs crossed and hands holding onto his feet as he rocked slowly back and forth. "Guess so. So... Fill me in. I wanna know all about M-chan and what she's doing in this mostly boy-camp-school-whatever-you-wanna-call-it-thing." It had an official name, he knew that much. It had also completely slipped his mind. Things had a tendency to do that. He wished he knew why.
Miyuki moved to sit down on the other end of the bed cross legged and just glanced over to him with a small shrug. "Dunno what to really fill you in on. Nii-chan said he was coming here and I was tired of always being left behind so I came too. And yeah it’s lame that it’s mostly all boys and junk but at least my tennis is improving." She couldn’t help grinning a little knowing that she was doing better even if it was little by little sometimes.
Kin thought for a moment, still rocking back and forth - it was near impossible for this boy to sit still, he had too much energy pent up in him, even after a tennis match such as the one he just had. "M-chan, M-chan, M-chan! Weren't you gonna try something out? I think you told me the last time we talked. Or the time before that, I don't remember. Tried it yet? There are other girls here, right? Have you played them?"
She couldn’t help laugh a bit at him since she had been about the same when she first arrived. There was just too much to do and too many new people and tennis to learn that she couldn’t sit still. "Yeah I was and I did once or twice since I played with nii-chan-tachi but I couldn’t win... except a few times like with dorobo-nii-chan or Kura-nii but they weren’t at their best. And yeah I’ve played with An-nee and Tomo-nee before but mostly for practice." she replied, easily keeping up with his stream of questions.
"Eh? What was wrong with Dorobo-nii-chan and Shiraishi?" Dorobo-nii-chan was Koshimae's former captain, and Shiraishi was Shiraishi, so Kin was immediately worried. Another banana in his mouth, he leaned forward, blinking at her.
"Kura-nii had learned how to do that yips thing and well he scared himself and tried not to play anyone seriously after for a while so that was the only reason why. But he’s back to normal now." Miyuki smiled to reassure Kintarou Shiraishi was all better now. "And well... dorobo-nii-chan’s old injuries would get in the way or other ones would sometimes and I could just never play him for real." she couldn’t help frowning as she finished. She had been there a while now and still they hadn’t been able to play all the way through. The girl couldn’t help being scared it was maybe her fault each time too after all.
"Man, that's frustrating..." Kin frowned, trying to imagine if it was him, and if he tried to play Koshimae and he wouldn't be at the top of his game. "And poor Dorobo-nii-chan! He shouldn't keep getting hurt. People shouldn't get hurt. That's just bad, and it gets in the way of tennis." He didn't mean that the only reason people shouldn't get hurt was because it would interfere with their skills on the court, but it was a fact that had to be mentioned. "But I bet you'll be able to play him some time. And me. I wanna play against you too. But first I've gotta play against Koshimae. I mean... He is around, right? I've seen him on the journal system."
Miyuki blinked and looked over to him. "You haven’t met with Ryoma yet? But I thought you guys were good friends and stuff. Yeah he’s here but I don’t know if he’ll want to play." she couldn’t help saying.
"Well, I thought he'd come look for me, but he didn't..." He looked like a kicked puppy for a moment, then started, golden eyes narrowing. "What? Why wouldn't he?"
"He... doesn’t really like to play a whole lot and when he does you have to take it slow with him is all." she said simply, a bit concerned by his look. Did he not know everything? She didn’t think it was really her place to say much else than that either though. They were better friends than she was with them so they needed to figure that out themselves... right?
Kin looked extremely uncertain and uncomfortable. "You have to take it slow? With Koshi-- Echizen? Echizen Ryoma?" He wondered if he should ask her why, but then realized that he shouldn't demand for someone else to reply, he should seek the answers from Ryoma himself. "Okay." He smiled. "Okay, I got it. Thanks for tellin' me, M-chan~"
She couldn’t help frowning a little feeling bad she was no doubt raining on his parade in a sense. Miyuki knew how much Kintarou always looked forward to challenging Ryoma but things probably wouldn’t be the same for him now. "Sorry..."
"Eh? Why? Why are you sorry? Why? Why?" He leaned forward so much it was a wonder he didn't just topple over. "Is it your fault? Have you beaten him? Is he totally sad he lost to a tiny ginger bread girl so he doesn't wanna play anymore? Is that it? What did you do, what did you do??" Yeah, he was completely misunderstanding her.
"..." Miyuki should have known better than to apologize to a monkey man. She moved on the bed so she could easily shove him over herself and straight into the last banana he was about to eat.
"Shut up!" she pouted at him, already getting irritated for being made fun of just because she was a girl. She could still beat plenty of people at tennis... even if it seemed like no one had really gone against her seriously now that she thought about it. And with those thoughts she curled up a little on her bed again.
Scream. He flailed around for a bit, then sat up, mashed banana on his cheek. "What gives??!" He thought he had been very extremely super smart here, and apparently that was wrong. So why was she apologizing? And honestly, she should apologize for treating her revered senpai - him - like her private punching/shoving bag. That wasn't nice. He pouted right back at her.
"You’re stupid so just go away!" she shot right back, albeit not a very good or consistent comeback but she was getting a bit upset herself. So what if he was her senpai he always acted like a goofball and never played seriously with her either. If she was just a little girl to everyone too then she’d act like a brat when she wanted...
"What's your problem?!" The gears turned slowly in his head as he watched her, sensing a strong insecurity and vulnerability from her. It confused him; Miyuki always seemed so strong, so determined and positive. He had never really experienced this side of her. (Not like Dorobo-nii-chan had, that was for certain.) He lifted his hand, as if he was trying to take her shoulder and just... Do something. But he allowed his hand to fall and instead he dipped his head to the side, looking her up and down. "But, fine. If you wanna. I'll go. You're being way weird here, you know?" I'm worried, he wanted to say, but couldn't.
Despite herself she reached out for the hand that didn’t quite reach her. She didn’t want to do this kind of thing again since she did it all the time ever since she got there it seemed. Miyuki didn’t ever want to seem weak so she decided to shout out and get angry instead but she didn’t like herself like that either. For the past while she didn’t have to worry about those kind of emotions because she was just feeling lonely from people leaving but there was no reason for her to take it out on Kintarou; even if probably deserved it sometimes.
He noticed her gesture, and his immediate confusion and yes, anger, was vaporized into thin air. Instead he pushed uncertainty aside and pulled her into a warm - but not crushing; he had learned to control that super human strength of his - embrace. "I don't care about anything, okay? I'm just so glad to see you again."
She clung to him a little and simply nodded as she buried her face a little in her friend’s shoulder. "Yeah... I really missed you Kin-chan." she murmured softly, and honestly this time even if they had been on a rocky start.
