Fuji couldn't help but feeling slightly ashamed that it had taken talking with Miyuki to make him realize that he shouldn't perhaps estrange himself so much from his former friends. Well, he should try and get his act together already, and therefore he was now outside Ryoma's room, carrying a small bag with candy with him. He knocked on the door. "Echizen? It's me."
As he heard the voice, Ryoma found himself stiffening, but he threw a bored glance at the door anyway and muttered:
"Come in."
Fuji carefully felt the handle, and true enough, the door was unlocked and easily opened. He stepped inside, finding Echizen on his bed. "Hi there. I thought we could talk for a bit."
"I don't wanna talk with you," Ryoma muttered, but then his attention was drawn to the small bag. "What do you have there?"
"A small make-up gift?" Fuji gave a small smile, opening the bag to show the candy inside. "I thought we could snack a little on it and maybe play some karaoke game or something. You have one, right?"
"Several."
Well, judging from Ryoma's expression, this wasn't going to be easy. "Well then... I bet you two candies I'm going to beat you~ ♪"
"Maybe I don't feel like playing any games with you, Fuji-senpai," Ryoma mumbled, wondering how rude it would be to just ask him to leave.
Fuji sighed, taking a seat. "Very well then. No games. I promise." It was quite clear that Ryoma didn't mean the karaoke games. "What I really wanted to do was... Well. Apologize. I know I've been... Well, not very pleasant around you for quite some time now.
"You've been an ass," the younger boy pointed out, voice flat. "You think some candy's gonna make up for that?"
"No. But it's a start." Fuji sighed. "Listen, I... It's not going to excuse anything, but I've been in a rather bad place, and when I am, I get defensive. I know I shouldn't, but... And I've been taking it out on people around me. Mizuki, Tezuka, you..." He laughed. "It's funny, but the only person I feel I haven't lashed out at is Kirihara of all people. Well, and Niou." And Akazawa, but that was because of reasons he had no intention of sharing with the younger boy.
Ryoma frowned at the mention of Niou, but decided to hold his peace for now. He knew Fuji and that rat-tailed bastard were friends, and while that in itself felt like a betrayal, he couldn't really call Fuji out on that, as he doubted Fuji knew just how bad his relationship with the white haired boy was, truce aside. "Gee, never would have noticed," he said instead.
"Well..." Something had passed over Echizen's face, and Fuji could wager a guess. Niou, of course. Maybe he shouldn't have mentioned him... But then again, Niou was one of his best friends nowadays, which meant he should be free to talk about him whenever he wanted, right? "The thing is... I was talking with Miyuki-chan, and... Well, she made me realize a thing or two. And I have to start fixing things. I don't want to estrange myself from you guys, really, I don't. I just..."
"Do you still hurt yourself," Ryoma cut in, finally looking up. "If you are, you should stop. Because that's damn painful, you know? More than anything you could say to me. I mean... Not that I care or anything, but... I don't know. You should stop, that's all."
"It's none of your busine--" He fell silent, a small blush coming to his face. "Oh my, I'm doing it again, aren't I? I'm sorry." This was slightly awkward. "Ah... No, I'm... taking it easy." Well, he was trying. "Anyway... If you want to be left alone, I'll leave. But I thought it could be fun, nee? A bit of karaoke."
"Listen, I..." Ryoma bit his lower lip, staring at the candy bag. "Well, uh... Never mind. But okay. Sure. We can... play a little." He paused, looking up, a smirk coming to his face. "I'm so gonna outsing your scrawny ass though!" No, he hadn't forgiven him, it wasn't that easy. But he could try and act adult about this matter for once, and being an adult meant you could take a small step yourself, when attempting to meet someone halfway.
"You're on," Fuji smiled. He was fairly confident he was going to win, however; he was good at singing. And keeping the rhythm.
... But in the end, he lost.
