Miyuki was heading to the kitchen to check out what was around. She didn't know what she would do, she just wanted to look around. It was part of her routine when everyone was busy and her candy stash was already running low. Lack of distractions and losing energy definitely did not make for a happy Miyuki. Maybe she'd take inventory on what was there and run into town sometime to get stuff to make chocolate or something. Or just going to a candy store probably made sense too but it was a lot more expensive. She was already super low on allowance between all the gift giving and making and whatnot. She'd need to go with someone too since she still wasn't familiar with the area if she went into down anyway. Of course that could also be fun, but then again everyone was busy. So probably making her own stuff would be better and more fun too. Too much to think about!
"Mou..." she whined finally wandering in and still not deciding what to do.
Taka was in the kitchen, apron on as he stirred the frosting he was making. An Italian buttercream, the recipe called it. Looking down at the bowl, he thought it looked perfect, so he went to grab the cooled chocolate cupcakes. It was a peanut-flavored buttercream, and he hoped it tasted good-but maybe he should get a spoon to try it first. He would hate for it to be horrible and waste the cupcakes. After sticking the spoon in the frosting, he brought it to his lips. Mmm, it was good-but sort of mild flavored. Maybe...Hmm. Would everyone else like it...?
As Miyuki stepped into the kitchen she smelt the sweet and delicious scent. She poked her head in and spotted the cook who just happened to be someone she didn't really know. But by the looks of things it was definitely someone she wanted to know!
"Ne, ne. What's that?" she spoke up curiously. She didn't want to jump up and say 'Hey can I have some of that?' but it was pretty obvious in her eyes.
Taka looked up from where he was staring at the frosting bowl and smiled at the younger girl. "Hi there." He had hadn't met her but he'd heard about her. Chitose's younger sister...."Miyuki-chan, right? I'm Kawamura Takashi. And this." He pointed to the bowl. "Is peanut buttercream. Would you like to help me decide if it tastes good enough to put on those chocolate cupcakes?" He pointed over to the rack that held the cupcakes.
"Ooh, really? Can I?!" Her eyes lit up immediately when he asked her to help. Of course in her excitement of the cupcakes she slightly ignored properly greeting him but at least he seemed to already know her name.
The brunette grinned, and moved to get a clean spoon, before filling it up-much more than a sample but than again, he thought she might like it. He handed it over. "Please. You aren't allergic to peanuts, right?"
"Nope!" she responded to reassure him, as allergies were never fun to deal with. She then happily put the spoon 'sample' in her mouth. "Mmm!!! This is sooo good!" And it was, she smiled widely and had to hold herself back from trying to get more; the spoon had been licked clean by her anyway.
Laughing, Taka nodded. "Good! Now...would you like to help me put the frosting on the cupcakes? Than maybe we have have one and some tea for a snack." She looked like she still wanted more, after all.
"Sure! That'd be fun!" she cheered, moving to put the spoon in the sink and wash it off. After all cleaning while you worked was important; because if you didn't then the food would get cold or stale or the mess would get gross otherwise... (Obviously she had personal experience in the past, though quickly learned from her ways~) And she didn't want it to seem like she was just there to steal him cupcakes; even though she kind of was...
Miyuki reminded him of an Older version of his sister, with her hyper energy practically pouring out of her body. "Alright than! How do you like to decorate them?" He asked, looking down at her.
"Hmm..." She took a moment to examine the frosting and the cupcakes. They were definitely a lot better than she made normally. "Well I normally try to make them look like animals and stuff, but that's probably silly..." They could easily add a few chocolates or something to make them animated but his frosting looked too pretty to make into something like that.
Blinking at the idea, he thought for a moment before he let a slow grin bloom on his face. "I don't think that's silly at all. You know, the peanut buttercream might make a great bear. And I have these tiny peanut butter cups." He motioned to a small container of them on the counter. They were very small, only a half-an inch wide and tall. Next to those, he had some bigger ones-the miniture reese's peanut butter cups. "So we could use that for the ears and nose, maybe? We have food coloring too, so we could dye a bit of the frosting to make the rest of the face, if you want." Yep, just like when Emiko-chan was in the kitchen with him.
"Oh, really? Yay!" She was already getting to work at gathering the candies her had mentioned and placed them aside in groups to be efficient. Miyuki never really made anything in the kitchen with anyone but her mother before. Not even her brother as he wasn't the best multitasker in the kitchen like her dad. So it was exciting and fun to be working with someone new and who made such awesome sweets~
"What other color should we use?" He asked as he got a small bowl and plopped a small amount of the beige frosting into it. Taka was sure she would have fun decorating, so he thought he'd frost them and hand them over to her.
"Hm... white or yellow I guess? Or a lighter or darker brown~" There were just so many possibilities! Of course they weren't making a rainbow bear; though now that the idea crossed her mind it sounded kind of fun. She'd have to try that sometime... But for now she was having fun with the normal bears as they would be delicious either way~
Well, Taka didn't know how to make frosting lighter than the color it was, so he supposed darker brown would have to do. He added some of the brown food coloring from the set his mother had bought him for Christmas, and stirred it until it was a chocolate brown color. That would look good. He put the small bowl by her elbow and picked up a cupcake to frost. When he was done, Taka put it near Miyuki-chan and picked up another.
Miyuki happily took the frosted cupcakes that Taka finished and went to work at decorating them. She carefully placed the chocolates to make the faces one at a time. Decorating stuff always was a good distraction for her, and lots of fun too. That way she didn't quite realize how much she wanted to eat them as she wanted to finish them all first. "You're really good at this, Kawamura-san." she finally spoke up as they were getting close to finishing.
Handing over the last of twelve cupcakes, he grinned at the girl. "Thank you, Miyuki-chan. And I think you're pretty good at this too. The bears look great." He started gathering dirty dishes and set them in the sink behind him, turning on the tap so he could wash them.
"It's because you made such great cupcakes and frosting in the first place." she grinned over to him as she finished up the cupcakes. She did have to admit the bears turned out pretty great and they'd finished relatively fast too. Teamwork was always fun! Miyuki brought over any other dirty dishes he had missed to help wash them too after she was done.
After all the dishes had been done, and Taka wiped down the counter, he put on a kettle on a burner and turned it on. "Well, they sure look cute. Not sure Jin will appreciate them, but..." He couldn't help but chuckle. "He'll eat them anyway because it's a cupcake. So, which one are you eating?" Emiko-chan had always been particular about the one she ate, and maybe Miyuki would be too. The hot water was steaming, so with a flick of his wrist, the burner was off and he was pouring tea into a teapot. After adding the tea leaves, he grabbed two cups. "Wanna sit outside, or in here?"
"Hm... this one's fine~" Miyuki picked one that had its nose slumping to the side. She had probably put it on too fast so it slid a little. If anything she was particular about not letting others eat the ones that weren't as close to perfect as possible. "In here's fine, unless you wanna go outside?" He had been in the kitchen longer and Miyuki knew sometimes it was easy to overheat after working in it too much. Her mother used to have to step out in the middle of cooking all the time, which is how she started in the kitchen so much. "And who's Jin?" she couldn't help asking as well.
"Alright. Pick one for me, too, yeah?" He asked, checking the tea for color before pouring both cups. "Here's alright with me. It's too cold outside. Silly of me to forget that." He murmured, before giving her a small smile. "Jin...he's my boyfried."
"Sure!" She grabbed him one of the best ones for him and moved over to a table with them. Miyuki couldn't help but giggle a little as his comment about outside. Not that she thought it was too silly, she went out almost every day in the cold there. Then again it wasn't to eat cupcakes... "Ooh, your boyfriend?" she grinned. It seemed like a lot of her friends or nii-chan-tachi had one; so long as they were happy with them she was happy for them. Past that she didn't really pry too much-- that kind of stuff wasn't important to her.
Taking the two tea cups over to the table, Taka sat down across from the younger girl and looked at his cupcake. It was adorable, so he slid his phone out of his pocket and took a picture. And sent it to his boyfriend. "Yes, my boyfriend." His blush was bright on his cheeks, and he laughed good naturedly as her grin.
"Does he like cupcakes too?" Very one track minded when she was surrounded by sweets, obviously. She didn't even really notice him blush.
"Sometimes. Usually, he'll eat it, if I make it." He replied, sipping his tea.
"Oh, I hope he'll eat them even though I helped then." she frowned slightly, stopping before she could start eating her cupcake. She would feel bad if his boyfriend didn't want what he made so great because she had decorated them silly.
"I'm sure he'd like them even better, now!" He replied, giving her a smile. He wasn't sure though. Jin could be an ass sometimes. But oh well. He had had fun. "Who are you going to give your half to?" He figured there were ten..so she should get five, and he'd take the rest to Jin and his roommate.
"Eh, you don't have to give me half." She blinked a few times, surprised not expecting that as she didn't really do much of the work. "But... I guess I'd give them to nii-chan, Kura-nii, Ken-nii, An-nee, and..." she trailed off as she counted them off on her fingers. "Tezuka." Miyuki nodded to herself as she finished and finished eating her cupcake too. She wanted to make sure she didn't use his old nickname, which was hard but she did it!
"Sure I do. What would I need with so many, anyway? I'd just give them away, and this way, you can share what you did with others." He said, smiling. He didn't know who Kura-nii or Ken-nee was, but the rest, he knew....he thinks.
"Thanks, Kawamura-san." she smiled and sipped her tea. "Next time I'll make stuff for you too! But I don't think it'll be as good.." She'd try her best to though, at least she knew her baking and cooking weren't exactly horrible. It was just basic as there was only so much she could do alone or when some of the cabinets were too high and there weren't stepping stools.
"I'm sure anything Miyuki-chan makes will be amazing!" He replied, nodding in agreement to his words. "And we could always make something together. Sometimes An-chan and I come in here together and make something." Taka added.
"Eh? Really? I wanna make stuff with you and An-nee that sounds fun!" Miyuki nearly bounced in her seat, though held herself back as she was still sipping tea. If things got done so fast with two people the possibilities with three had to be amazing. Or at least triple the fun; which was more than enough incentive to her. "I'm only really good at bento making and basic cooking and baking. But I love making candy~" She wasn't too amazing at that either but she was most proud of it.
Taking a bite of the cupcake, Taka found that they had been right-the peanut buttercream wasn't too mild against the chocolate flavor and they worked almost perfectly together. "I'm sure An-chan would like to do that. Maybe sometime we should make Bento box's. I try and practice my sushi-making skill as often as I can."
"Eh, you make sushi too?" Why wasn't he like a master chef or something by now? He was totally amazing! "That's too cool, you can do everything huh, Kawamura-san!"
"Well, I dunno about everything." He chuckled. "But sushi making is pretty much in my blood. My family owns a Sushiya in Tokyo. I've just sort of fallen into the world of baking, but so far, it's fun."
"Ooh, that's so cool!" That about summed up everything to her anyway. "No wonder Kawamura-san's so amazing." she grinned again.
"Not as amazing as Miyuki-chan! I would have never thought to make these cupcakes into bears!" He grinned back at her, before sipping his tea.
"Hehe, I just like to make everything into stuff like that I guess. I always make my nii-chan Totoro ones when I have extra time. And I made a bunch of mochi bunnies for the new year and Christmas for everyone." She was always coming up with ideas to make new things. The question was just how long she'd remember, which is probably why she hadn't made too many different things quite yet. But in the end it was easy to make bento shaped like almost anything.
"That sounds like fun. My sister, Emiko-chan, is almost eight, and she always wants me to make her food into something special. I've even bought a couple books about the subject, because I'm not all that creative." Taka said. "Maybe you can show me a few things, huh?"
"Sure, I'd be happy to!" She had some great ideas for kids; as she was still quite one herself. More than just some books could teach anyway, or so she liked to think. "Kawamura-san's such a good nii-chan." she giggled, finishing her tea completely satisfied. Definitely her best kitchen visit yet~
"That'd be great, thank you." He murmured softly, sipping his tea for a moment before grinning at her. "I sure hope so! I spoil her rotten sometimes, but I can't help it. She's adorable. I think it's a requirment for older brothers. Does Chitose-kun spoil you?" He asked. He didn't actually know the other boy very well.
"Hm... not in those ways I guess, but he does in his own way. Like playing with me and stuff like that; if not I have all my other nii-chan-tachi around." Having them all together in one place was a plus then too. She had gotten a mountain of candy and other goodies for Christmas and New Years thanks to it, that was for sure. It was nice that Kawamura worked so hard to please his little sister in that way though. "If my nii-chan got in a kitchen it might be kinda scary 'cause he'd forget about things." she laughed a little; though it was kind of the truth too.
"Oh, I see. I spoil her in other ways too. Always taking her to the park, or playing tea-party or helping her with her homework." Taka said, smiling. "Do you have a lot of nii-chan-tachi?" He was curious, because he had thought that it was only the two Chitose here....Taka chuckled. "Oh yeah? That might not be a good idea than!"
She thought about commenting on the tea party thing but decided against it. Maybe she'd ask his little sister if she ever met her as it sounded like something that would be cute to hear about. "Everyone from nii-chan's Shitenhouji team! Like Kura-nii and Ken-nii-- er, Kuranosuke and Kenya." She forgot people didn't exactly know all of her nicknames for them or that she even really knew them. Miyuki was only the younger sister after all so she never really got to know everyone at camp the way they did.
"Oh, I see! Of course, everyone adopted you, right? Emiko-chan had tried to adopt Fuji-kun as an older brother, when we were freshman in junior high." He said, smiling at the memory of the girl.
"Hehe, yep. It's fun to have a big family anyway, I'm sure Emiko-chan wanted to be spoiled more too." Miyuki giggled. She was the same way when she met all of her brother's friends, wanting to adopt them as her older brothers; though they ended up beating her to it.
"Oh, I'm sure she did." He agreed easily. Sometimes he missed her, and he knew right now she was having a hard time, because he wasn't home all the time now like he had been while his father had been in the accident.
"You'll always be her one and only nii-chan though. I bet she misses you." Miyuki smiled. It was why she chose to come with her brother there rather than just stay home. Sure that wasn't the only reason being apart from him definitely would have been a bit miserable.
"She does, the poor thing. But she's still so young, and she'll learn. We talk on the phone almost every night I'm not home anyway." Taka murmured, giving Miyuki a smile. "So, I never asked, but what were you doing in here? Before I ropped you into helping me out?"
"Oh, nothing really... All my nii-chan-tachi are away or busy so I was just looking for something to do." And thankfully she had found it thanks to him. She got to make a new friend too! "So thanks for giving me something to do, heh~"
Taka couldn't help but chuckle. "Must be fate, than! We were supposed to meet and help each other out~"
"Yep!" Miyuki nodded. "Hope it happens more often, then I'll never be bored~" she giggled, standing so she could take her cup and wash it. She had probably distracted him from whatever else he was going to do long enough anyway.
"I'd be very glad, if it did happen more often~" Taka replied, nodding in agreement. He was finished too, so Taka stood and took his own cup to the sink.
"Thanks for giving me some of the cupcakes and letting me help Kawamura-san, it was really fun!" she cheered after they finished cleaning up. She put the extra cupcakes in a container so she could go give them to everyone right after. And if she couldn't find them... well more cupcakes for her~
"Thank you for helping me out~ I hope you and your friends enjoy them. And let me know if you wanna do this again." Taka said, smiling at her as he finished washing his cup.
"'Course! I'll ask An-nee too when I see her next. It's always fun having friends to cook and bake with!" she smiled and waved to him before skipping out of the kitchen. By now maybe she'd be able to catch her nii-chan-tachi to give them their cupcakes and if not; second snack time!
Blinking, Taka could only wave to her as she left in a whirlwind. She sure was an adorable kid, and he hoped they got to play in the kitchen again sometime.
