Ryou was practicing his serve, trying to perfect it. He was quite determind to utterly defeat his brother. Last time they played, the game was too close. He had been afraid that if he was careless, he might've lost. Ryou hit a few more balls before he saw a familiar face approaching in his direction. Who could this face be? he wondered.
Fuji, conversation with Mizuki fresh in his mind, slowly approached the tennis courts, tennis bag hanging from his shoulder and one racket resting comfortably in his hand. Of course the courts weren't empty, he hadn't expected them to be either. He put a smile on his face and slowly approached the relatively new student. "Rokkaku's Kisarazu Ryou, correct?" He smiled as he stopped in front of the long haired twin.
Ryou paused in his serving of tennis balls and gave a slight smirk. "Heh, that's me alright. And're you're the genius, Fuji Syuusuke~ What brings you out here? Going to practice for a bit?"
Ryou paused in his serving of tennis balls and gave a slight smirk. "Heh, that's me alright. And're you're the genius, Fuji Syuusuke~ What brings you out here? Going to practice for a bit?"
"That was the thought," Fuji smiled, even though it seemed he was in no initial rush to start with said practice. "How are you liking the school so far?"
"School? Well it's pretty good now that Atsushi and I are rooming together. It's been quite a while since we've shared a room." Ryou took off his hat and wiped the sweat from his brow. "How about you? Do you like it?"
"It's pretty good, yes," Fuji replied lightly, unzipping his bag to pull out a water bottle. "It's actually good to be back."
"So you've been here for quite a while..." Ryou mused, scratching his chin thoughtfully. He bounced the tennis ball on his racket, wondering what he should say next. However, he was itching to play an intense tennis match against Fuji Syuusuke. "Are you busy right now?"
"Two years," he replied cheerfully. "Time flies... And no, I wouldn't exactly say that I am, no."
"Heh, if you're not busy...would you like to play tennis game with me?" Ryou asked.
"I certainly wouldn't mind it." He wouldn't, he needed to play tennis to determin for himself if this really was what he wanted to do, or if it was time to give up on tennis all together. Kisarazu could be as good a guinea pig as anyone, he figured.
"Let's get started then," Ryou was excited. He was going to play a tennis match against Fuji! He couldn't wait to tell Atsushi! "Smooth or rough?" he asked.
"Rough," the genius said, already moving his feet and legs to warm them up while he waited. He wouldn't play with stiff muscles after all, that would just be stupid.
Ryou spun the racket on the ground and picked it up when it fell. "It's rough, do you want to serve first?"
Fuji glanced around, reading the surroundings. The wind was good today. "I think I'll rather pick sides, if it's okay with you."
"Fine with me. I'll serve first~" Ryou pocketed two balls and bounced one on his racket. "Which side do you want?" He asked.
"This one," the blonde said, walking over to the opposite side of the courts.
Ryou moved over to his respective place and bounced the ball a few times. "Do you want to warm up or anything?"
"Yes, let's play a warm up set first, nee?" They wouldn't be helping anyone if they ended up tearing something after all.
"Sure thing~" Ryou hit a ball towards Fuji, not too fast and not too hard. After all, it wouldn't be much practice if he hit a bunch of winning shots.
Fuji easily caught it and returned it, wondering if this would be such a great warm up for him if Kisarazu didn't play better than that.
A few shots later, Ryou decided that he was ready to play. "Fuji-san, are you ready to play?" He asked. A few more minutes of warm up wouldn't hurt but he was ready to play a game of tennis.
"I think I'm good to go," Fuji said after taking a second or two to check his physical state.
"Alright." Ryou bounced the ball a few times. "Love all," he called as he tossed the ball into the air and slammed his racket against it.
The first couple of balls he played carefully, trying to evaluate Kisarazu's skill level and general technique. He wasn't bad, and Fuji hadn't assumed he would be either, Rokkaku's hidden ace, right? But... Keep playing like this and you'll never win against me..
After losing a few points which resulted in losing a game to Fuji, Ryou had to come up with a new strategy. Personally, Ryou thought he was pretty good, but Fuji...was on a totally new level. Ryou bounced on the balls of his feet, thinking that he could snag a few games from Fuji if he concentrated hard enough.
"Are you trying to trick me," Fuji said lightly, spinning the racket in his hand while thinking of whether he should use the Vanishing Serve on Ryou or not. "I don't know if that will do you any good, Kisarazu~" The only thing he had trouble with was powerful balls; his wrists were too fragile to deal with it. But he was fairly sure Ryou wouldn't hit that hard. He was no Kawamura or Kabaji. In the end, he decided on a regular serve, smoothly sending it over the net.
"A trick? Nope~" Ryou simply said as he returned Fuji's serve easily. "And please, call me Ryou." As he jumped up and tried to smash the tennis ball.
"Okay then, Ryou..." A smash. Fuji smiled and returned it, using the Higuma Otoshi.
Ahh, the infamous Higuma Otoshi. Ryou turned his head to see the ball bounce on the line. "Good shot," he said, clearly disappointed that he made such a silly mistake. He made a mental note not to hit anymore smashes. Ryou returned to the service line and began to prepare himself for Fuji's next serve.
"Let's see how you deal with this one," Fuji said, his tone coy and challenging. This time it was the Vanishing Serve. He was simply curious to see how Kisarazu would deal with that.
"An underhand serve eh?" Ryou said under his breath. The ball sailed over the net but it suddenly vanished. "What?!" Ryou was sure that he had been watching the ball the whole time but it just disappeared! He took a wild swing with his racket but unfortunately he missed. He heard the ball bounce on the ground behind him and he silently cursed himself for not being able to hit the ball.
Fuji stood on the other side courts, smiling innocently. "Everything all right?"
"Everything's fine," Ryou grumbled. He wasn't feeling fine right now. And his hair was probably feeling gross after all the running he did. Maybe playing Fuji wasn't such a good idea after all. He positioned himself at the service line and waited for the next serve.
If he played a few more Vanishing Serves, Kisarazu might catch up to it, figure out how to return it. He didn't really want that to happen, so instead he played a regular serve, making sure to aim it as far away from his opponent as possible. Show me what you've got, Kisarazu.
Ryou returned it easily. Making him run? That was no biggie. After hours of playing on the beach, Ryou had more endurance than the regular tennis player. Sure Fuji had tricks up his sleeve but if Ryou could make the game last then Fuji's stamina might run out.
Impressive, Fuji thought to himself, racing up to catch the returning ball. The game continued back and forth, back and forth, and by the time they were at 5-3, in Fuji's favor, he was starting to get weary. Sweat dripped from him and the racket handle felt slick in his hands. Really... Not bad.
Ryou paused to wipe the sweat off his brow. This was an intense game and the score wasn't looking good but it certainly wasn't horrible. It was his serve now...if he could snag another game, then maybe he might have a chance. Ryou made his way over to his respective side, bounced the ball a few times and then he served it.
A second when he wasn't watching, distracted, and he missed the ball with only a couple of milimeters to spare. He watched it rolling along the court with an absentminded smile. "Love - Fifteen."
Ryou gave a small grin as he saw Fuji miss. Was he exhausted? Ryou questioned. "Fifteen-Love," he called as he served again, trying to make it as fast and as powerful as the last one.
He's on to me. Well, well... He wasn't going to lose, wasn't going to let him have this point. He dashed after the ball and caught it... But the racket was blown out of his hand. "Ah!"
Ryou watched the racket fly out of Fuji's hand. Was his ball really that powerful? He wasn't really a power player so seeing what just happened made Ryou a little confused. "Fuji! Are you alright?" He asked.
He rubbed his wrist and bent it carefully, trying to see if it hurt. It seemed fairly fine. "Aa. I think so. Must be getting tired, that's all."
"Tired? Do you want to take a break? We could continue this tomorrow...." Ryou actually wanted to finish the game now. The sooner he finished it, the sooner he could take a shower and the sooner he could fix his hair. However...he was concerned whether Fuji was tired or not.
"It wouldn't be the same." Fuji smiled and brushed a few damp bangs away from his eyes. "Let's continue. I'll have you beat soon enough anyway~"
"Heh, if you say so~" Ryou served again and despite Fuji being tired, the game quickly ended with Fuji winning 6 to 3. Ryou wasn't too disappointed in the score. It wasn't a close match but it was a good game.
Fuji approached the net and extended his hand, smiling brightly, inspite looking quite weary. "Thank you for an intense game, Ryou-kun."
"No problem, it was a good match. It was nice playing with you," Ryou took Fuji's hand and shook it. It was a good match but Ryou felt gross. Ew. "Now if you excuse me, I have to take a shower," Ryou pointed to his hair. "My hair's a mess."
"Shower sounds good." He would take a breather first, however. Didn't want to shower alone with just one more person, needed to make sure his legs would carry him the entire way. So, a breather would be nice. "I'll go later though. It was fun~ Bye, Ryou-kun."
"Alright. See you later. Bye~" Ryou put his racket back into his bag and left the tennis courts. Strangely, after the tennis game he felt invigorated. He couldn't wait to tell Atsushi that he played against Fuji!
