He was feeling better. At least the fever had gone down, and the visits - Tachibana - had cheered him up considerably. He still wasn't allowed to leave the infirmary however, mostly because the nurse still wanted to monitor his head wound. And do some more tests. He was entertaining himself by solving a sudoku, but it went slowly as his heart wasn't entirely into it.
Yukimura snuck quietly into the infirmary, carrying a pot of daffodils. He felt bad for not visiting sooner, but he'd been a bit distracted. "Fuji?" He called quietly, walking to the bed he'd been told the other boy was in.
At the familiar voice, Fuji looked up and smiled. "Hi there, stranger." Oh, pretty, pretty flowers. Wasn't it the right season for them and everything? He thought it was.
"Well, I see you're awake at least," Yukimura smiled and offered the flowers over, "How are you feeling?"
"Better," Fuji admitted, gesturing towards the nightstand. "You can put them there." He sat up, slowly, and put the sudoku magazine away. "And you?"
"Good," Yukimura set the flowers down on the stand and pulled up a chair to the side of his bed, "When did the doctors say you'll be able to leave?"
"In a few days." He stretched lazily. "Which is good. I mean I've done some homework here and all, but I'm still getting behind on things." That, and he had to prepare for his senior year in high school. It really could have started off better.
"That's great~" Sitting carefully on the chair, Yukimura pulled out a bag, "I have some of the more recent stuff if you want to take a look at my notes. We haven't been doing anything too complicated I don't think. Are you excited to get out of here?"
"You're a life savior!" Fuji beamed and made grabby hands at the notebooks. "Well, yes. This is quite boring, you know?" He berated himself. Of course Yukimura would know. He was talking to the boy who had spent almost half his fourteenth year in the hospital for crying out loud.
"Yeah, it is," Yukimura handed over the notes, smiling at Fuji, "So what kinds of tests have they been running on you?"
"Blood samples, mostly. And some shots to see if I'm allergic to this or that. And they got the medical chart from the hospital where I was this fall, just to double check the tests they did on me there."
"I see," Yukimura made a face, "I always hated blood tests. How's the food been?"
Fuji pulled up his sleeve to show off his arm that had several small bandaids glued to it. "Mmhm. Well, they get the food from the school cafeteria... So... It could have been worse."
Yukimura touched the bandaids thoughtfully, "I suppose the cafeteria food isn't too bad. Most of the time," He tucked a strand of hair behind his ear, "If you get out by Sunday would you like to help me do some re-potting?"
Fuji lit up and nodded. "Yeah. If the weather's nice. Strict orders to stay indoors if it rains." Which was boring. He liked the rain.
"That sucks," Yukimura liked the rain, it was a shame the doctors weren't letting Fuji go out if it rained, "Hopefully it'll be nice out then."
"Yeah..." Or... "Or I could just be naughty and pretend it was nice out? If it rains. I can blame the drugs~ ♥"
"I wouldn't want to get you sick though," Yukimura said, smirking, "Is the cactus I gave you still alive?"
"Of course he is. I take good care of him." Yes, he applied gender to his cacti. Why did you ask?
"Just wondering. I found some interesting cacti while I was looking through some plant books, and I was thinking of talking to okaa-san to see if she could get me some seeds," Yukimura smiled, "I could show you the pictures next time I see you if you want."
Well, of all the people in school, how come it was Yukimura who knew what exactly to say to perk him up completely? Fuji's eyes sparkled. "Oh, would you? That would be lovely! And I have an idea for you too... Yumiko has two tickets for a vernisage over in Tokyo. The thing is, she can't go, and she's asked me if I want the tickets. I haven't said anything yet, but if you'd like to go..."
"That sounds lovely," Yukimura said, smiling. it felt nice to be able to cheer someone up like that, "If you can get the tickets from her I'd love to go with you!"
"What would you most like to see," Fuji asked curiously. He knew Yukimura liked art... Just not which kind.
"I'm not sure," Yukimura said, "I'm sure I'll figure it out when I get there though~"
"Then it's set. Re-potting on Sunday and then we'll set a date for the vernisage." Fuji smiled, pleased with himself.
"Sounds good~ It was lovely visiting, but I should probably head back to my room and finishe homework. Would you like to keep my notes?" Yukimura asked, getting up and stretching.
"If it's not a bother to you," Fuji nodded, flipping through them. "They seem really comprehensive."
"Sure, go ahead," Yukimura slung his bag over his shoulder and smiled, "Please return them sometime in the near future though."
"I'll have them back to you by Sunday," Fuji promised.
"Alright," Yukimura said, waving as he headed towards the door, "I'll show you the cacti on Sunday too." He said before leaving.
"Looking forward to it," Fuji smiled and waved, and when the door had closed behind the other boy, he returned to his sudoku, now with renewed energy.
