His plate was empty but Marui didn't move. There weren't very many people around at all which made it feel nice to just sit around and be lazy. His stomach felt comfortably full and he could probably shovel more into his mouth if he wanted but there was still that dread of becoming like one of those people in wall-e who couldn't stand on their own and god damnit, he needed to start doing some kind of exercising soon. He'd go see Kame-sensei about it tomorrow, Marui thought reasonably, because Kame-sensei was a god and so he'd find whatever it was Marui needed to do to keep his middle from expanding too horribly.
Taka had run up to his room before lunch to grab a book he had forgotten for his class after lunch, so he was a bit late, people were already starting to clear out. After getting his tray of food, he moved toward the tables to find a seat, idly scanning the room.
Pat pat pat on his stomach. Marui's eyes strayed back to the line where the desserts were with a small sigh because he really shouldn't......but it'd had been such a long day and he needed a little sugar pick me up. Moving was too hard though. He glanced at the people sitting around him and no one seemed like they were likely to move if he asked them to go grab him some. Then he looked around the line, noticed Taka, hesitated, and then waved his hand a bit to catch his attention. "Hey Kawamura, want to grab me some of that chocolate cake?" Pretty pretty please? Beam.
The hand waving at him belonged to none other than Marui, and he blinked, before moving over cautiously. "Ah...Sure. Anything else?" He said, and sat his tray down across from Marui before going back out toward the food lines to get what the other wanted. He came back a minute later and set it down, before hesitating. His tray was already here....so finally, Taka just sat down across from the other.
Now this is what he was talking about. Sure, he was full. But not bloated and he could always take in a little bit more cake. Marui took the plate from Taka when the boy offered it and set it in front of him with an appreciative gesture. "It looks especially good today, doesn't it?" he meant the dessert tray of course. "I could eat these all day." But he wouldn't! really! Marui started digging in on the cake, half registering that yes, he should say thanks but that wasn't his style.
Taka opened his milk, and gave thanks quickly before breaking his chopsticks and digging in. He idly looked at the piece of cake. "Mmm, it does look good." He had picked a cookie for dessert, but the cake did look delicious. Just...very heavy.
His eyes ran over Taka's plate curiously and noting nothing very interesting Marui returned his attention to the cake in front of him. The fork slid into it easily and he was taking another bite before he was done swallowing the last. His tongue ran over the corner of his lip to catch a taste of the frosting before reaching for.....Taka's drink. His own had run out and his throat was really dry so he took a long drink of it and returned it to its owner's tray with a sticky sweet grin and a "thanks" followed by another lick of his lips to catch the last of the moisture. "So what's up?" Marui was still half curious about the exchanges between Akutsu and Taka he'd seen online.
Taka was just about to reach for his milk when he found it missing, and looked up to see...Marui drinking from it. Somehow, he couldn't be mad, and when it was placed back, he rolled his eyes. "Do you want the rest of it?" He offered, before shrugging. "Not much, I guess. How about with you? How are you...healing?" He had heard, vaguely, about the fight, and...felt guilty.
There was a vague shrug. "I'm doing fine. Better than fine, probably." He didn't know exactly when he'd be back on his feet but it felt close. Taking the milk back, Marui placed it next to his plate and traded it for the fork again. "So not much is going on with you and Akutsu?" There was the sly question and Marui peeked at Taka from beneath his lashes with a playful grin. He thought it would require someone extremely thick not to see something was going on between the two of them.
"That's good." He said, smiling softly. He...was sort of glad that Marui asked him to get him a piece of cake. Because, he wanted to...forgive and forget. Hearing Marui's words, he blushed, ducking his head and shoving a bite of rice into his mouth to try and figure out what to say. It wasn't like he was keeping their relationship a secret, but...they were not broadcasting it, either. "Ah....Like what?" He tried to play innocent.
"I don't know. I remember seeing a bunch of posts and stuff some days ago that looked pretty suspicious." Yes, suspicious. The look he gave Taka said not to think he was stupid please thanks. Then he took another large bite of the cake, mumbling sounds of enjoyment coming while he chewed. It felt weird to suddenly be so nice to someone he had held a grudge against simply for being on Tezuka's old team but Marui's head hurt too much to be mean. Plus, now that Taka had stopped mooning over Fuji he wasn't so irritable. Akutsu was much better and Marui approved. Pulling the milk toward him, he took another gulp of it held it in his hand while he went on. "People are going to find out sooner or later. Camp's a horrible place for keeping secrets."
"Ah. We...had a bit of an argument." He could say...he guessed. Though, that wasn't really truthful. Akutsu and Marui were friends, or at least, monopoly buddies. "I'm not keeping any secrets." Taka replied, almost pouting across the table as he took another bite of his lunch. "And...what about you and Tezuka?" He countered, wondering if that was a good play or not. He just....didn't want to upset Jin if Jin didn't want everyone knowing.
Sure. A bit of an argument. Marui still didn't stop looking at Taka suspiciously, though he had to pause a bit so he could fork some more of the cake into his mouth. "Okay fine. You're not keeping any secrets. Me and Tezuka aren't either." He leaned back into his seat, the cake making his mouth feel dry. He licked the last bits of it off his teeth. "If anyone tries to make a move on him though that isn't me they're going to find their things thrown out the window and their bed set on fire." It made him pretty self satisfied to say this, even if Marui didn't know how he would pull something like that off.
"I hope you and Tezuka can be happy. I would not like to see him hurt." Taka replied, grinning at the threat. He didn't put it past Marui to actually do that to someone who hit on Tezuka. Marui was...well, Marui, he guessed. "I don't think there is anyone stupid enough to hit on Jin, because he'll hit back." But than....if someone hit on him...Jin might...well. Ouch.
Debating with himself for a moment, Marui shrugged and reached for his fork again. "Yeah, I kissed him a couple times and the first time I thought he was going to punch a hole in me so I ran pretty fast. That was a couple years ago when I did that mistletoe thing for my first Christmas here." Cutting off another piece of cake Marui stared woefully at its depleted existence. "The only one that actually hit me was Sanada though. And that's only because he threw his wrist weight at me, the jerk." Meeting Taka's eyes, he grinned crookedly. "The other time I was just being obnoxious. Sorry. I don't plan on kissing him again though."
Hearing the other's story, he couldn't help but chuckle a bit at it. "I'd be more worried about his reaction than mine." He admitted, grinning, before winking. "Sorry, but I don't have a cute story about kissing Tezuka before. Even when doing something silly like Truth or Dare, we wouldn't dare go against Tezuka." That is, when Tezuka actually played along with the rest of his team.
"I got Seiichi to kiss him once and he said it was like kissing a warm rock." Marui's grin was completely amused. "So at least I know what it's like when other people do try to kiss him." His fork scraped against the plate and Marui stared at it in surprise when there was no more cake. Fuck. And he really shouldn't have another piece yet. "Someone stole the last of my cake," Marui informed the other boy, still looking at the plate. He sighed and downed the rest of the milk rapidly while he thought of Tezuka playing truth or dare with the rest of the seigaku regulars back in junior high. His brain didn't compute. "Tezuka doesn't really like Truth or Dare. What kind of dares would you guys give him then if you didn't want to make him angry? Or did he always pick truth?" It wouldn't be that much of a stretch. But anyway, back to the first topic. "So did you and Akutsu get together after Valentines?" Couldn't have been before, Marui remembered Kawamura had a date with Yagyuu then.
"A warm rock...?" Taka chuckled at the description. "I doubt you had to push Yukimura into kissing him though..." He still was weary of the other, before blinking. "I think it jumped into your mouth..." There was something so...strangely amusing about his lunch partner. He took a couple more bites of his lunch, and mourned his loss of milk for a moment. "Ah...actually, I think he always stayed out of it...At least, when I played along. I wasn't there often since I was working..." He added, before blushing. "Ah...I guess...." Taka finally admitted.
His cake had NOT jumped into his mouth. That would defy physics. Marui toyed with his fork because now he was out of milk too and what else was he supposed to do with his hands? "Yeah, I don't think Seiichi minded kissing him very much. I can't remember very well anymore though." There was a half shrug and Marui concentrated on what Kawamura was telling him about Tezuka. Yes, that sounded a lot like him. "Well. At least everyone else played." The blush made Marui snicker and he let the fork drop finally. "You don't have to hide that you're seeing him. If he doesn't like people know, well tough luck on him you're not supposed to be a convenience!"
Taka thought that Yukimura probably liked molesting and kissing just about anyone, but he bit his tongue, and just laughing along with the other for a moment. "I'm not worried about that. If he actually told me not to tell anyone, I think it might be a mistake. No...I'm more worried about other people's reactions." He admitted.
His brow arched curiously at that. Searching his pockets for a stick of gum to keep his mouth occupied and feeling less sticky from cake, Marui pulled one free from his pocket and stuck it into his mouth before saying anything else. "I don't see anyone being very surprised. You guys have been friends for a long time. Their reaction, if anyone's noticed and they'd have to be stupid not to, is probably that hopefully he treats you a lot better in a relationship than he did in your friendship." The gum was kneaded thoughtfully between his teeth. "I think if you can make him realize he cares about you more than he does about himself you'll be fine though. As long as you don't push too fast. He's a grumpy one." Nodding sagely, Marui was kind of tickled at giving anyone any kind of advice but it seemed pretty obvious to him at least.
Taka nodded at the other's words, and waited until he was finished to speak. "Well...I guess, one of the only other person to really know saw Akutsu dump a cola on me in middle school." He grinned. "But, that's because he wouldn't hit me. And...I appreciate the advice, but...He's the one that started this."
Hmm hmm. "So you're just going to leave him to do whatever with it?" Marui didn't really see Akutsu as the brightest cookie in the world and in his opinion he needed a lot of pushing but this was Kawamura's relationship, not his. "Oh well. I hope you got him back for the cola thing. Though, maybe he was hoping for a wet t-shirt contest." He might have winked but really that would've been too cheesy.
"Whatever with it? What does that mean?" He asked, cocking his head to the side before he chewed another bite of his lunch. He kept eating, because lunch period woudn't last forever, and after swallowing again, he shook his head. "No...well, he did that because I went to his mother. He didn't approve."
Marui didn't say anything because going to someone's mother was pretty sneaky and he would've probably wanted to throw something at Kawamura too but then he didn't know any details and would probably panic if he had to listen through them. He made a noncommittal sound instead and eyed Kawamura's tray. Still nothing good. The cookie looked semi interesting though..."I mean, if you leave Akutsu to do all the acting and take a passenger seat to your relationship then what if he decides to run away?"
The brunette understood what his classmate said. "That's true, but I don't plan on it. And...while he might be one to run away, he'll come back pretty soon." He didn't want to tell Marui but...He really did have Jin wrapped around his little finger. "So...what about you and Tezuka? I'll admit I have no idea why you guys broke up, or how you got together, but...I hope you guys can make it work this time." He had idly seen the other eye his cookie, and picked it up, and handed it over with a smile.
There was a pause and then Marui snatched the cookie out of the boy's hand with a split second of indecision that said NO MORE SUGAR and battled against his natural instinct which was to consume said sugar. Oh boy. Kawamura might not have said it but the look on his face spoke louder than words. Marui snickered and took the first bite. Mmm mmmm poor cookie monster with his only sometimes food. Marui could eat all the cookies he wanted. "We got together when we were roommates. I think he wanted to run away but I'm pretty stubborn."
He...sort of liked Marui, like this. And he felt bad about fighting with him, now more so than ever before. "But you guys broke up, right? And...from your journals, you two might try and get back together?" He couldn't help but ask, grinning. It was sort of fun when the tables were turned and he wasn't being asked all the questions. Three bites later, he was done with his lunch, sans cookie.
"He hasn't said anything about us being back together," Marui said dodgily, trying to drag out the cookie eating but failing miserably. "But I'm kind of assuming we are. It feels like we are anyway." He wasn't really sure how things were but they felt hopeful. "I was just being stupid when I broke up with him but it doesn't matter anymore." The bell rung and Marui stared up, startled. Gross, class.
"Oh, I see." Taka said, nodding a bit. He and Tezuka were not the closest of people, but he was glad that his old teammate was happy. "Hopefully history won't repeat its self. But-" He paused, blinking at the bell. Really? Already? Huh...."I'll take your tray, and see you in class?" Taka smiled as he stood and did as he said he would, taking both their trays to dispose of, thinking that it was weirdly nice to talk to Marui comfortably, because...he was kinda cool.
