Who: Yukimura Seiichi and Yanagi Renji
What: The great Seiichi escape and the events which led up to it.
Where: In Yukimura's room, the hallway, an empty room on the third floor.
When: Yesterday (Sunday September 20th)
Rating: Um...PG
Comments: Renji is heartless.
Yanagi glanced around the room Yukimura shared with Dan. It looked exactly the same as the last time had been in there, strewn with plants and vaguely out of order, on Yukimura's side at least. Noting that Yukimura was not in the bed Yanagi shifted his grip on the first aid box he had lifted from the infirmary. Option a) Seiichi had run. It was possible, especially since Seiichi was sick. Option b) Seiichi was still in the room.
Yanagi's eyes drifted to the closet.
Yukimura shifted slightly, moving a shirt that was in his face. Maybe he should have hid under the bed instead of in the closet. Ah well, it was too late to change now, since it sounded like Renji was already in the room. Hopefully he would think Yukimura had run and leave to go and find him instead of looking around the room. Moving to a more comfortable position on the box he was sitting on, he hoped his friend wouldn't think to look in the back corner of the closet behind a row of cosplaying outfits and dresses.
Yanagi checked under Yukimura's bed first, and made some noise. Maybe he should tip over one of Seiichi's plants and see if that brought him out… no, let's not. He would need Yukimura to behave long enough to get Seiichi on the bed. "Seiichi." Yanagi knocked at the closet door, and then pulled it open. "You know hiding isn't going to do you any good."
Yanagi rifled around the clothes, then pushed the cosplay clothes aside.
Yukimura pouted and shrank back into the corner. Maybe he would be overlooked? Although Renji seemed to have already guessed that he was in the room. It felt like he was playing hide-and-go-seek as a five year old with his mother. Maybe if he was found he could claim perfect health and then run out before Renji insisted on checking?
Yanagi rolled his eyes. "Where, oh where, could Seiichi be? I wonder if he's turned invisible." Yanagi stepped into the closet so that he blocked the doorway, and reached over into the corner he suspected Seiichi was hiding in. Planting his head on top of well taken care of hair Yanagi ruffled. "Hmm. I think I found you. Does that mean you're it?" Really, Yanagi was more likely to believe Seiichi was well if the other teen had faced him dead on.
"Hmph," Yukimura came out of the corner and frowned slightly at Renji, "I'm not five years old," he informed his friend crossly, fixing his hair, "And if you're it, then you should go hide so I can find you," not. If Renji went to hide, Yukimura would escape to the shrine and hide in a tree. Maybe then the other boy wouldn't be able to find him.
"Ah, my mistake." Yanagi stepped back so that Yukimura could climb out of the closet, but maneuvered so he blocked the door. Yanagi was sure to kick the door shut as well, since he had not closed it when he walked in. "Genichirou should be it then." Had they ever played hide and seek together? No, generally it was tennis. Ah well, Yanagi would have won all the time anyway.
"Seiichi, I want to check some things out. Could you sit on the bed please?"
Yukimura came out of the closet, pouting at his friend when he blocked the door. There went his chances of escaping, "I'm not sick," he pointed out, "Training helped," Not really, but if it would get Renji off his tail then it did.
"If you're not sick, why were you hiding?" Yanagi motioned at the bed, opening the first aid kit with one hand to pull out a thermometer. He held it out to Yukimura. "Also, your throat sounds raspy. Did your training include gratuitous shouting?" Well, it could have. God knows sometimes it did. But still, Yanagi doubted it.
"The closet is a comfortable napping place," Yukimura lied, stubbornly staying in front of the closet and refusing to take the thermometer, "My throat is a bit sore from shouting at birds in the shrine," he continued to lie.
"I never took you for a closet case, Seiichi." Yanagi stated, deadpan. Though right now Yukimura was certainly being closeted about his illness. Ah, the puns, they just kept coming. "Seiichi, it's me now, or a team of doctors later." Yanagi didn't want to lay hands on Yukimura yet, so he waited, holding out the thermometer. "I promise if you aren't sick, I'll leave. So by fighting the tests you're proving you are sick and I'll need to take measures." Yanagi dropped the red and white box to the floor after he had fished the medical tape out of it.
Yukimura stuck his tongue out at Renji and reluctantly took the thermometer, "You'll leave me alone after you get my temperature?" he asked, glancing at the red tape somewhat suspiciously. He didn't want to deal with a team of doctors, but his friend could be worse than doctors if he put his mind to it.
“No." Yanagi shook his head. "I'll leave you alone after I've diagnosed whether you're ill or not. I will be relieved if you are not running a fever."
Yukimura hadn't thought so. But it would have been nice, "Will you leave me alone after that?" He asked hopefully, going to sit on the bed and simply holding the thermometer distastefully.
"It depends." Yanagi picked up the white case and moved closer. "You don't wish for my company, Seiichi? We could play yahtzee." Depending on how sick Yukimura was (Yanagi doubted it was more than a cold, maybe at most a mild case of the flu) Yanagi would either tie him to the bed and tell him to rest, or take other precautionary measures.
"Knowing you, I'd be tied to the bed and not allowed to leave ...If I were sick," Yukimura hurriedly added on the last bit, "As much as I like your company, I prefer it when you aren't insisting that I'm ill."
"That's what the medical tape is for." Yanagi set it down beside Yukimura. "And I won't insist your Ill if you prove to me you are not, Seiichi. It's a simple matter of letting me take your temperature and check the sound of your breathing. It's not like I am forcing you to take your temperature anally or stripping you down and tapping on your chest." In fact, Yanagi had a stethoscope.
Yukimura inched away from the roll of medical tape. "Can't you just take my word when I say I'm not sick?" he asked, pouting cutely at his friend.
"…" Yanagi looked blankly at Yukimura. "No."
Yukimura had been expecting that. "Fine," he said crossly, turning on the thermometer and sticking it under his tongue.
Yanagi smiled slightly. "There's no need to be sulky when I'm right." Yanagi brought out the stethoscope and waited for the thermometer to beep. Breathing on the stethoscope Yanagi warmed the cold metal end.
Yukimura pointedly ignored his friend, taking the thermometer out when it beeped and handing it over to Renji.
Yanagi checked the thermometer. "Mmmm." Turning it off Yanagi set it aside. He would swab it with alchohol and wash it with hot water before returning it to the first aid kit. "Hold up your shirt, Seiichi," Yanagi hooked the stethoscope around his chest. There was bound to be congestion, Yanagi did not even need to listen to hear it, but he wanted to be sure.
Slight fever, congestion, recommendation, liquids and bed rest.
Yukimura silently held up his shirt, jerking slightly at the cool metal on his chest. He didn't need to guess what his friend had discovered, since he was pretty sure he was sick. He just didn't want to admit it (because he liked his freedom and didn't like bed rest).
"Deep breaths Seiichi." Once he had finished checking Yukimura over Yanagi folded up the stethoscope and set it aside. "I'm going to need you to lie down now."
"What now?" Yukimura asked, not lying down. Maybe he could escape while Renji was sitting on his bed and not blocking the door?
"Don't you trust me, Seiichi?" Yanagi asked. "I just want you to lie down for a bit while I get you a glass of water and some painkillers. They'll reduce the fever. What have you eaten today?" Yanagi picked a bottle of pills out of the first aid kit, and then replaced them. He would prefer naproxen to ibuprofen.
[
"I had soup this morning," Yukimura informed his friend, glancing at the tape distrustfully and frowning at the pills, "And no, I don't trust you when you're insisting that I'm ill and need rest."
"You're ill, Seiichi." Yanagi stated deadpan. "You need rest." Setting the first aid kit aside Yanagi juggled the pill bottle and the medical tape. "When you're not ill and don't need rest, I promise I won't intrude on your practice time. But not if you manage to put yourself in the hospital and catch H1N1."
Yukimura scooted away from Renji, "Fresh air might help?" he said hopefully, tensing and ready to make a run for the door. He really didn't want to find out what his friend was planning to do with that tape.
"You had fresh air yesterday." Yanagi sighed. Well. Looked like force might be the only way. "Do I really need to tackle you, Seiichi?" Yanagi watched Yukimura's movements like a hound watched a skittish fox.
"But I should get fresh air everyday," Yukimura protested, springing up and making a run for the door. He really didn't like bed rest, and training seemed to be an excellent thing to be doing right now.
Yanagi grabbed Yukimura before he got very far and pulled the other man backwards, eventually toppling him onto the bed. Not that Yukimura didn't put up a fight. Yanagi was definitely going to regret this. "Seiichi, you need to rest right now." Seiichi was such a pain when he was sick.
Yukimura growled slightly at Renji, struggling to get up, "I'm not tired," he stated, almost whining at his friend.
"I'm sure you'll figure out something to lull yourself to sleep." Yanagi sighed and pinned Yukimura down. "Seiichi, I highly doubt that you would gain any productive rest while tied down, but I am not above it." And out came the medical tape, mainly as a threat. But he would use it if Yukimura continued to be- Yanagi already knew Yukimura was going to be a pain. Unrolling the tape with his teeth and one hand Yanagi ripped off a strip.
Yukimura glared at the tape and hoped Renji wasn't doing what he thought he was doing with it. "You don't need to tie me down," he said, frowning and trying to push his friend off him. If he was taped then he wouldn't be able to escape at the first chance he got.
"No," Yanagi resisted the push and grabbed Yukimura's wrists. "I don't want to tie you down. I want you to get better, and that requires that you stay off the courts for a day." Maybe two, depending on how sick Yukimura was tomorrow.
"I thought it required extra time on the courts," Yukimura commented sarcastically, tugging at his wrists uselessly. This close Renji was stronger than him.
If Yukimura really was alright, Yanagi would be running laps right now. Or dead. Yukimura would likely kill him for something like this under other circumstances. "You can spend more time on the courts later, Seiichi." Yanagi managed to get the tape around Yukimura's wrists.
"You can come with me," Yukimura said, trying to get his wrists out of the tape and growling when it didn't work, "We'll run laps."
"I'll run as many laps as you want…" Yanagi wrapped more tape around Yukimura's wrists and then began sticking them to the headboard, "Later. When you're better and can hand me my ass properly."
"I could hand you your ass fine now," Yukimura said, struggling and growling slightly at Renji, "This wouldn't be necessary if you didn't insist on being a mother hen."
Growls, huh? Interesting. "I'm not a mother hen, Seiichi, I am merely worried about your health. You have a habit," Yanagi finished securing Yukimura and sat up, "of neglecting it." Pulling a water bottle and a straw out of the first aid box, Yanagi had been sure to come prepared, he picked up the bottle of pills and waved them at Yukimura. "Now be good."
"If I were smart I'd spit them at you," Yukimura said, tugging at his bonds, "But I won't because maybe you'll let me go if I don't."
"See? Now which option sounds smarter to you." Yanagi fished out one of the painkillers and opened the water bottle. Holding the painkiller out to Yukimura Yanagi waited for the other to accept it before slipping the straw into the water bottle and holding that out too. "At least you can not say that I never do anything to you."
Yukimura swallowed the pill with some water and made a face, "Now I can complain that you do too much," he said, frowning at the other boy, tempted to take another sip and spit it at him, "Now can I go?"
"After you take a nap." Yanagi set the water bottle aside and moved off the bed. "Then, I'll consider it." Depending on how sadistic he was feeling and how sick Yukimura looked.
Yukimura answered by kicking Renji in the thigh (hard enough to bruise), "I think I've been a bad influence on you," he commented.
Yanagi knew Seiichi was going to do it, but he might as well allow Yukimura to vent his frustrations. "Nngh." Patting Yukimura's foot Yanagi moved out of kicking range. "Perhaps. But it isn't as if I was not predisposed to such actions beforehand, Seiichi."
"You should be more like Sanada," Yukimura complained. Sanada wouldn't tie him up to keep him from training. He probably wouldn't tie him up at all.
"Genichirou wouldn't tie you up." Yanagi paused and considered it. "Genichirou would no doubt encourage your self-destructive tendencies to train until you passed out. Now, if you were Niou, I have my doubts on the bondage." Niou would tie Yukimura up, given the chance, Yanagi was sure. Although, really, anyone tying Yukimura up was setting themselves up to be killed later. Yanagi supposed he would get a nice eulogy or two.
"That's the point," Yukimura said, pouting at Renji, "If I nap, will you let me go when I wake up for sure?" he asked, hoping to get a promise out of his friend.
"Will you magically begin to take better care of yourself if I do?" Yanagi asked. "I told you, we'll see." Yanagi would probably have to let Seiichi up to get some food in him, he was also surprised Yukimura hadn't complained that he needed to use the toilet. Ah well, there was time for all of that.
"I have to pee," Yukimura said, pouting at Renji, "Let me go."
Yanagi sighed. "I should have used handcuffs."
Yukimura smirked slightly, "Untape me already, I need to pee."
"I'd believe you more if you weren't smirking, Seiichi." Never the less Yanagi proceeded to untape Yukimura… but kept a tight hold on his arm. "If you channeled all this energy into getting better, maybe you wouldn't have gotten sick."
Yukimura pouted at the hand on his arm and got up, "I'm not sick," he insisted, although they both knew he was.
"Seiichi, we both know that's not true." Yanagi followed Yukimura. "Protesting isn't going to do more than goad me into rolling my eyes." And possibly finding other people to help. Surely if there were people to shadow Yukimura's every move Yukimura wouldn't try something foolish… an unlikely plan at best.
Yukimura headed toward the bathroom at the end of the hall, "Are you going to hold my hand while I pee?" he asked, somewhat annoyed that he couldn't escape yet.
"Are you going to try to climb out the window?" Yanagi asked. He intended to stand guard. Catching and pinning Seiichi wouldn't be that hard, even with new room to move. …alright, it might be that hard. Still it would take Yukimura time to get out the window, and if he went through the door Yanagi would be able to plan his route. Yukimura was not yet feverish enough to have an original thought in his head.
"Not out the window, no," Yukimura said truthfully, walking into the bathroom with Renji. Up in a tree would be a good place to hide.
"You're not going to be hiding in any trees, Seiichi." Yanagi let go of Yukimura once they were in the bathroom, and settled back beside the door to watch. "You're making this much harder than it has to be."
"And you're being ridiculous," Yukimura answered, "Are you going to watch while I pee?"
"Seiichi, it's not like I’m looking at you." Yanagi sighed. "And surely you're used to other men being in the room when you urinate."
"But they don't stare at me," Yukimura said, looking pitiful, "You could look away for a minute, I promise not to try to get out the window..."
Yanagi covered his eyes with one hand. "Is that better Seiichi?" He'd still be able to hear everything Yukimura did, and it was not like covering his eyes was some great loss of vision.
Yukimura grinned and sprinted out the door, hoping Renji would take a moment to realize what had happened.
Yanagi grabbed the back fo Yukimura's shirt, the door banging his arm as it closed. "Seiichi..." Ow. Also, frustrating.
Yukimura slithered out of his shirt and frowned at Renji over his shoulder as he ran towards there stairs, running down them carefully.
"Seeiiichiiiiiiiiii." Yanagi groaned. He had expected that, he had, he just hadn't thought Yukimura would actually do it. His calculations were off. Taking off after Yukimura Yanagi plotted the optimum route in which he could trap Seiichi and took it, coming out ahead of Yukimura.
Yukimura, seeing Renji in front of him as he ran down the stairs, pivoted and ran out onto the third floor, running into a random door (an empty room, luckily for him) and closing it, going to hide under the bed.
Following Yukimura up the stairs Yanagi estimated which 'random' door Yukimura would have chosen to hide behind. "Seiichi. This is just getting frustrating."
Settling down along the wall Yanagi watched the door he assumed Yukimura was behind. Ah well, maybe if he waited long enough Yukimura would decide to take a nap.
Yukimura ignored Renji's faint voice in the hallway and focused on not breathing in too much dust. He was feeling vaguely sleepy... a few minuts later he'd fallen asleep under the bed.
Checking his watch Yanagi waited until ten minutes had passed before opening the door to the random room Seiichi had hidden himself in. Hearing heavy breathing Yanagi sighed, quietly, and checked under the bed. Yup. Asleep. Carefully Yanagi pulled Seiichi out and held him in a princess carry. It might be a little difficult getting through doors, but it was unlikely Seiichi'd wake up this way.
Yukimura mumbled in his sleep when Renji picked him up and shifted unconsciously to snuggle into the other boy's chest.
