What: they talk, Kite gets a new boy
When: today
Where: The shrine
Rating: G

He wasn't religious, not at all, but running up and down the steps to the shrine seemed like a really good exercise, especially if he wanted to train his stamina, or lack thereof, so here Gakuto was, sweating buckets and cursing under his breath as he forced his legs to go just a few more steps further. Why had he started this in the first place, and why was it so difficult to just stop and say that he failed? Ugh, sometimes he hated his twisted sense of pride, especially if it was directed towards him himself.

A streak of purple passed by. It would be the fourth or fifth time in Gakuto's trek up. A very distinctive purple with a very obvious white in the back of the pants. Higa. And if it was that Higa, it was Kite. And Kite was training again. Punishing himself for losing at so many of the sports during the sporting games. So a few dozen laps up and down those stairs would do for starters. However, when he passes the petite red head, he turned and started up them...backwards, his amazing balance keeping him from tripping and falling on his ass like an idiot despite his speed. "Hyotei, right?" He paused, breathing still steady. He hadn't pushed himself enough, obviously. "There's water up there." He offered. This was one of Keigo's boys...that meant he should probably try to be a little friendly.

Gakuto stopped and tried to catch his breath, sweat pouring down in rivulets down his face as he nodded. "Yup... You're Kite, right?" Gasp, gasp. Man, this was pathetic, even more so as the other guy seemed everything but short of breath.

Kite paused and jogged in place on the steps, watching the red head. Every team had a red head. It was like a tennis law or something. Just like every team that was worth anything had a megane.... Wasn't this red head partners with the team megane? Little. Bad stamina... "Yes I am. And you are...Mukahi...right?"

"Yup. Mukahi Gakuto." Wheeze, wheeze. Man, he ought to stop this like yesterday. "You said something about water?"

Kite nodded and pivoted on his heel to point up to the very top step. "Up there. Nice cold water. In bottles." He knew it was mean, but hell, he was Higa. Spartan training was just in his veins.

Oh man... Gakuto groaned loudly - which probably was a mistake, he'd rather save that energy but... He gritted his teeth and started running again. Either he would make it to the top of the stairs, or he'd just collapse somewhere along the way. Yay.

Kite jogged in place until the smaller caught up with him. The former buchou thought about running little rings about the small red-head. It would be cruel though. Cruel and unusual and it would probably get back to Keigo...He might get an earful for tormenting one of Keigo's boys... But Kite, being Kite, like to push those with him to be better. He liked to push himself more. So it was not out of spite he started to do laps around the acrobatic player.

Gakuto more or less crashed down on the ground, tasting blood in his mouth and his head spinning slightly. His legs burned immensely and he swore that he would never do anything like this again. But... What the... "What the hell are you doing?!"

Kite stopped in his tracks when the other crashed. He remembered a while back when one of his double players had collapsed from heat exhaustion. It had been a day he had felt he had failed as a buchou. He had lost one of his boys for a little bit. And the memory made him act. It was with double the speed and a little bit of that special movement technique that had him up and then down the stairs back to Gakuto, holding out a freezing cold bottle of nice fresh water. "I was training..."

"You were making fun of me," the wine haired boy pouted but accepted the bottle of water and downed almost half of its contents in one go.

The martial artist scowled and pushed his glasses up before settling is his usual mostly unguarded stand, one hand holding the elbow of the other, hips just slightly cocked to one side. "Actually, I wasn't. I was training. I always make it a point to train three times harder than my hardest training man. You were pushing yourself so hard, so I felt the urge to push myself harder as well. It had nothing to do with mocking you. Though I still can, if you want."

"No thanks," Gakuto huffed, getting to his feet and starting to dust himself off... Only to find that his legs failed him and he fell straight towards Kite. Man, his body was far too worn out, wasn't it?

It was luck that of all the people for Gakuto to take a tumble around, fate had chosen him to fall around Kite. Kite, whose reflexes were like his balance. Kite, who could move so easily, no matter where he was standing. So when Gakuto started falling forward, Kite was there to catch him.... Gakuto was light. Kite didn’t' think he'd ever picked up someone that light since he had carried around his little sister on break. "You really did push yourself, didn't you. I guess I'll bring you to water this time." In total buchou, must care for a player, mode, Kite shifted the petite red head and started up those steps again. There was shade with the tori gate shadows and there was another few bottles of water.

"Mm," Gakuto mumbled, feeling more like crawling on all fours into the shadows than anything else - he really got pathetic when he wasn't feeling his best, didn't he - and just sat there, waiting for Kite to return. His heart still ticked furiously in his chest and his frail shoulders heaved up and down as he struggled to calm his body down at least somewhat.

Kite crouched in shadow and pressed a bottle in Gakuto's hands and then undid the cap on the other one he head. “It will be cold." It was his only warning before he dumped the entire contents onto the smaller male.

Gakuto gave a - shrill, girly - squeak and blinked the water away from his eyes. Well, he felt slightly better but... Ugh. "It's wet," he complained.

Okay...That reminded Kite of Emiko just a little too much. And the last thing he wanted was to think of this little red head like he thought of his sister. Forcing himself not to feel at anyway brotherly towards the other boy, he smirked in typical Higa fashion and tilted his head in such a way that his glasses flashed. "Of course it's wet, Mukahi. It's water. It's one of waters many distinctive qualities."

"Oh, shut up," the red head muttered, trying not to wince at the other boy's stare. "Didya know I just had my birthday?"

Kite shrugged. "I think Keigo said something about it. I usually don't keep track of the ones that aren't mine." By that he meant his fellow Higa, of course. "But congratulations. What does that make you now...twelve?" Of...He just hadn't been able to help himself. He hoped that the other would know he was just teasing. Not that many people understood that his insults were actual more teasing than anything when he wasn't being serious about them.

"Hey, I'm the same age as you," Gakuto pouted. And when he pouted, he managed to pout Big Time. True, they didn't look remotely close in age, but who cared anyway. "And right... You know Atobe, don't you?" Of course he did, if he were on a first name basis with him, but whatever.

A smirk and a nod. Definitely like his little sister. They even pouted the same. Besides, Gakuto has asked a question. "I should hope so, as I am dating him." Unlike Atobe, Kite was a little more open about their relationship. He wasn't at all afraid of daddy dearest finding out. He could take Atobe's father and he could take Keigo from his father. And if push came to shove. Kite would prove he could shove harder.

"What, really?" Gakuto blinked, wondering if he might have heard something about that earlier, but right now he couldn't be bothered to remember. "Cool... So. Better be nice to me or your hubby's going to hear it." He smirked widely, because that made perfect sense, didn't it?

He laughed. A rather daring one. Like he lived for a little challenge. And wasn’t' Keigo a challenge. Past of the reason why they worked so well together. Because they constantly challenge one another. They were equals. "Oh. I'm sure he'd hear of it anyway. After all, you're one of his, not one of mine and I know how possessive he gets. I think he would rather play buchou and dump water on you. So, tattle all you want on me." He reached out and gave Gakuto a head pat.

The smaller boy frowned but then split up in a grin as he nodded. "You bet'cha! But anyway... You're really awesome with the training and stuff, aren't you?"

Another shrug. Crouching once more, he finally sat next to Gakuto and started his stretches. He was not an acrobatic player, but he was just as flexible as one. He needed to, else his muscles would freeze up and the rest of the day would be hell for him. "I don't know if awesome is the right word. I just like to push myself. Bring out my best. Lead by example. You, though. You are trying very hard, aren't you? It's nice to see more than just Keigo and Sanada and myself so dedicated to training."

“Well, I don't wanna suck," Gakuto explained with a small shrug. "And if I fail, I kinda suck by default, right?"

He nodded and finished his stretches and just sat there. "I suppose that would be right. If you failed, then you suck by default. But at least you are working on it. I have seen way too many lazy people here. It’s refreshing to see anyone doing this. And I suppose, if you need anyone to train with, I can give my help."

This most definitely caught the redhead's attention and he looked up, wide eyed. "Really? You'd do that?"

Kite crossed his arms and fixed a look at the smaller red head. "If I didn't want to, I wouldn't have offered."

"Well..." Gakuto unsteadily got to his feet. "Why?"

Kite hopped to his feet, totally agile. He shrugged. "I don't know. I suppose it's because I like seeing hard work. And I like knowing that I'm helping along one of Keigo's boys." And because he missed being a buchou. He wouldn't wait until tennis season officially started again, so he could throw his buchou pants into the ring again.

"How do you know Atobe's not one of my boys," Gakuto huffed, but he grinned none the less to take the edge away from his remark.
At that, Kite laughed and ruffled Gakuto's wet hair again. "Because Keigo's pride would never allow for it, that's why. But you get the point. I'm willing if you are."

"Sure." And he would not read stuff into that comment. He would not. Because this was Atobe's boyfriend. Guh. He shouldn't even go there in his thoughts.

Kite nodded and moved to Gakuto and then stated, "Then your first practice is to stretch. You've worked yourself hard. And you can tell me what it is you do. I mean tennis wise. So I know where to start."

"I'm an acrobatics player, but I haven't really done any real tennis in a year or so." He shrugged. "I kinda thought I would give it up, but..."

Kite nodded and thought about it. Acrobatics wasn’t too far off from martial arts really. "You do doubles, right?" He could work with this.

"Yeah, mostly." He shrugged. "I'm not stuck to one partner though, not anymore. I'm as flexible there as in anything else."

"I see." Oh. He could work with that then. He was not a doubles player, per say, though he thought next tournament, he would put himself in a pairing, just to see more about that dynamic. Because if Hirakoba could do it, he could. "I'm mostly singles, but I incorporate martial arts into my play style. I don't think helping you will be all that difficult. I usually do my kata in the morning and I train after school. So you can always join me then."

Okay, it would probably be a bitch to get tutored by this guy, but Gakuto decided that even if it were, he could probably get used to it. It was a sort of backwards gift to himself after all, a belated birthday gift slash present for winning the high jump during sports day. Or something. "Got it."

More like tortured...But Gakuto didn't need to know that yet. Instead, he decided to help Gakuto stretch. He would have to talk to Atobe later, about Gakuto and his abilities. If he was going to take someone from Hyotei under his wing, the least he would do was consult their King. Not that he still wouldn't put Gakuto through the ringer.
