We're up all night to the sun (April music)

May 15, 2013 17:51

A month where my music tastes went all over the place: a radio hit, some soundtrack music, and out of nowhere, a cover of a famous Japanese anime opening in the style of another kind of Japanese media.

Tumblr is fun for music, is all I can say about that

And so,
Daft Punk ft. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky - We're up all night to sun
I was pleasantly surprised to hear Daft Punk on the radio at all, though I first found this song on Tumblr. One of the signs a song is going to be on the monthly list is if I stick it in a separate tab to just keep listening to it, and that's definitely what happened with this song.

Mama's Gun - Finger On It - Can't put my finger on it
A gaming buddy of mine liked to sing this song while we were in chats, and eventually he posted it, and then it sat in a tab for a while, too. Interestingly enough, I shared it with Mari and we both agreed that it sounded like something from the 90s, but could not, as it were, put our finger on it as to what it actually sounded like. A one-hit wonder, perhaps?

Ichiro Kageyama - Zankoku na Tenshi no TEZEE (cover) - Shounen wa shinainare
One of my favorite anime openings ever covered in the style of the earlier mecha anime? Oh I am there with bells on. Thank you, pts , for sharing it!

Miracle of Sound - Calamity -Turn it back and it's bound to be, just another calamity
Miracle of Sound sometimes is hit or miss, but when they do hit, the songs seem to become engrained on my brain. This is a definite hit - it's a song for the game Bastion, and it captures both the soundscape of the game and the feel of it all at once. I have listened to this song while driving what feels like a million times, and it is still always hard to not automatically repeat it once it ends.

The National - Exile, Vilify- It takes your mind...again
Mari loves The National, and one day while discussing video game music, she brought up this song by them. And damn if it also didn't etch itself on my soul. It feels like I cannot listen to this song just once, and while it is simple and pretty, it also just...resonates with me.

i kinda have a thing..., music
