Spring, when a young woman's fancy turns to...music!

Mar 20, 2013 21:09

Happy Spring, yall! Have some music.

(ETA: Also have a post that's been sitting in my drafts since the start of Spring. It happens, heh.)

~January songs
5. Rihanna - Diamonds - I saw the life inside your eyes
At this point, I'm starting to think I have a mutated neurotransmitter that is excited by Rihanna's voice. This song is nothing special, really; it also has an excellent use as a Minecrafting song, since diamonds are an important resource there. Just be careful not to infect your fellow miners there, because this song inspires a lot of hate (even as people continue to sing it over and over again).

4. Miracle of Sound - Ballad of Clay Carmine - First rule of the COG is, boy get your head down
It was one of those interesting bits of serendipity: during the month, I thought, "Wow, last year I really got into Miracle of Sound," and wouldn't you know it, several Miracle of Sound songs took over my head. This was the most prevalent, though: a somewhat generic sounding rock song about a side family in the Gears universe, filled with sly references and some possibly inaccurate chronology, but I walked around singing it everywhere. everywhere.

3. The Lumineers - Ho Hey -I've been livin' a lonely life
My one radio song for this month; I heard it a bunch driving around IN at night, usually on my way back from the gas station or my brother's. It never failed to perk me up.

2. Shakira - Objection Tango - I love you for free and I'm not your mother, but you don't even bother
More old school Shakira. Certain songs seem to like to travel in packs; on the heels of "Ciega Sordamuda," I'm not surprised this one decided to tag along.

1. The Hush Sound - Wine Red -Give your immortality to me, I'll set you up against the stars
Pea's contribution to my monthly earworms: a short, somewhat panicked song that seems to be about William Tell gone wrong. It is wee--under two minutes--but fantastic.

February songs~
5. Miracle of Sound - Shooter Guy/Call of Duty Circus
More Miracle of Sound! And in some ways, these belong in January when I found 'em, but they took a bit to take hold with me and my friends. These two are next to each other on my phone, so they're linked in my head. Both are parodies--"Shooter Guy" of the general design of most "realistic" FPSes done to a buttrock beat, and "Call of Duty Circus" of COD multiplayer done to a circus beat--and both are really well crafted. I loves me some well done vidja game music.

4. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz - Thrift Shop -I'm gonna pop some tags
The Epic Road Trip of Ten and her Brother featured some staple songs. One--"Don't You Worry Child" by Swedish House Mafia--redeemed itself by keeping our spirits up and was like a sign that the road ahead would be excellent. Taylor Swift's "Knew You Were Trouble" often came on during my brother's driving time. And this was my song to pump up the volume on. I didn't think it was real at first! And then it was and I was enchanted. That's worn off a bit, but I still enjoy it.

3. Ellie Goulding - Under the Sheets -This is our luck, baby, running out
I posted a mash-up of this last year, but the original has really grown on me thanks to being in rotation on the trip. Ezio the car has an excellent sound system, what can I say? It turns versions of songs I didn't care for into ones I really quite like.

2.Mumford and Sons - I Will Wait - I'll kneel down wait for now
Yup, posted this one before, too. It's been in heavy rotation since November, but it really got attention last month because this is the song my brother and I would crank and sing together. One of those quiet bonding moments. And I still love just how this song feels.

1. Calvin Harris ft. Florence Welch - Sweet Nothing - I'm living on such sweet nothing
A fellow Florence lovin' buddy sent the vid for this to me on Twitter, and oh. It took a few listens for the song to grow on me, but when it did, it did like mold on bread: with deep reaching tendrils. It has an undescribable effect on me in singing it; I cannot listen to it just once.

music, musing
