The decants have finally been retrieved from the mailbox, and now it's time to get down, get down with the testing.
(It's something to do between classwork, ya know?)
The Zadok Allen Vineyard - A deep velvety Cabernet Sauvignon with hints of plum, black cherry, rose petals, coffee bean, and smoky oak. Barrel and bottle aged, with a smooth and spicy hit mid-palate. Hints of Dagon's tarry black incense and clotted blood complete this well-rounded, robust indulgence.
In the vial - Red wine, incense, and a hint of cherries.
On the skin (wet) - Mingled wine and incense--my guess on that is frankincense, but it's mostly generic incense smell to me--with fruity notes peeking out. It's more cherries than plums to me, and it's a perky cherry at that. Not a lot of throw, either.
On the skin (dry) - A little more throw now, though the scent itself hasn't changed much: still wine smothered in incense with prickles of red fruit. After more time, the wine and fruit come out more, like the incense and wine are tumbling over each other. It's a lovely little scent; not for a bottle, but certainly for full vial use.
Olisbos - This scent is the celebration of an age-old pastime: polished wood, well-loved leather, and olive oil. And yes, this is a word for "dildo."
In the vial - Wood, oil, and something that smells...orange? There's a distinct citrus flavoring I would associate with any of those notes.
On the skin (wet) - Oh hey, maybe that citrus is the wood polish! That'd make sense. So the citrusy scent is still around, along with something almost celery-like, which I think is the leather at work. And a teeny bit of wood hanging out underneath, too.
On the skin (dry) - Sadly, that awesome citrus-y smelling polish is gone, and in its place is the leather with celery overtones. (I imagine that's the olive oil in some way.) It's not terribly pungent like some leather, and the throw is pretty mild, but I dunno if it's gonna settle down past this celery stage. Oh well!
Mmm, a little later the throw gets better--still mellow, but better--and the celery kinda fades out. Not bad, not bad.
Signior Dildo - A scent of pearls and ivory: orris, violet leaf, narcissus, and Madagascar vanilla. - It's named after a poem!
In the vial - Sharp, almost alcoholic flavored (as in perfumer's alcohol), with bits of violet and orris, I think.
On the skin (wet) - Continues to be sharp smelling on the skin. Definite violet/floral notes on top, with a little orris rounding it out. Sorta generically perfume-y in that sense.
On the skin (dry) - It's florally sweet--though not too sweet--and soft and quite feminine, but it's also a little generic for my tastes. And I like a touch of orris, normally. It matches the "pearls and ivory" bit, but doesn't really capture me along the way.
Ode to Mars:
Aatos Polemoio (Insatiate of War) - Cedar, black currant, and saffron.
In the vial - Woodsiness--kinda that manly cologne smell, kinda not--a bit of saffron. The currant seems to be chillin' in the background.
On the skin (wet) - This is really close into the skin, and it's that woodsy, manly cologne smell, mostly. It's got this almost minty overlay to it, but I think that's part of the woodsyness. Not typically what I expect from cedar. The throw is gentle at first, then is just there, and it's mostly a minty wood.
On the skin (dry) - It continues to smell clean and woodsy and awesome. Might be a good working scent, but it's certainly not a bottle scent.
Khalkokorustês (Armed with Bronze) - Champaca, pear, cedar, black pepper, jasmine and red sandalwood.
In the vial - A light scent, with pepper and sandalwood at the fore, cedar backing things up, and a hint of that pear back there.
On the skin (wet) - A little sour, a little floral--the jasmine is not kicking butt and taking names like it usually does, but it's there--and with a hint of sandalwood. It's got a subtly intense throw; the smell isn't blaring in your face, but you can smell it wafting from the skin. It smells a little spicy and rounder hanging out away from a direct sniff.
On the skin (dry) - Okay, this is a funny little scent. The waft I catch away from the skin is a little woody, a little floral, but certainly manly. If I stick my nose against it, though, it's pure champaca ( I think) and jasmine--not harsh at all, really, and quite clean, but it's still mostly floral. It's an interesting morph'; I may have to try some more later.
Novel Ideas for Secret Amusements
(
Shunga III, and the pictures are worth a look.)
Kiss Amongst Discarded Tissues - Blackberry, white gardenia, burnt mandarin rind, Indian musk, khus, and white musk.
In the vial - Gardenia, a little of the mandarin, and a little of the white musk.
On the skin (wet) - Sweet orange and sweet floral, both which smell rather fresh. And both have staying power, too! A hint of something powdery and ambery underneath, too, but not very strong.
On the skin (dry) - Orange is about gone, but the floral remains, being sweet and unobtrusive. It's a scent that sticks close to the skin, too; for flowers, musks and resins, it does not have the POW it should. It's soft and light and pretty. May need to try it again later.
Okiyaki - Olive blossom, cardamom pod, amber, morning star lily, bergamot, and a well-aimed snowball. - Looking over the ingredients, the only reason I can think of for trying this is the well aimed snowball part. ;)
In the vial - Bergamot, lily, and a little of that ozoney lemon smell that BPAL uses for snow.
On the skin (wet) - Florals, but so well blended together and rounded out I'm not picking out notes. I think the amber is sorta filling in the cracks there.
On the skin (dry) - I keep losing this on my skin, heh. But what I'm getting is a very well mixed floral, sweet but not overbearing, with the amber subdueing and subdued, and a bare trace of that snow in the background. Really, really nice! Worth another try, too.
Picture Book and Pleasure Toys - Pink rose, red musk, red sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver, nectarine, black tea, ambrette, jasmine and blackcurrant bud - Another scent I think I am trying because of the picture.
In the vial - Vetiver and jasmine, right to start! This'll be interesting.
On the skin (wet) - Jasmine and vetiver. A touch of oakmoss, maybe, but those first two notes are in control! There's a hint of sourness, which could be either the roses or the nectarines; my guess is the roses, since there's not a lot of citrus tang to it. The throw takes a bit to get going, and then it is rose floral and jasmine floral, making it a bit sweet and a bit soapy.
On the skin (dry) - It is floral. It is jasmine and roses backed by some vetiver and nectarine. It ain't bad--the drydown is pretty tame to get to something that is floral-y without being PUNCH YOU IN THE FAAACE--but it is a bit too jasmine to be my cup of tea. Yes. Mm-hmm.
ETA: the throw on this just keeps amping up. It's not a punch in the face yet, but the jasmine has definitely got its hands on its hips and is showing its stuff.
Prosperity of a Country - Frankincense, orris root, asuhi, leather, and ginger-infused cream accord - so this picture is also about sex toys. All I'm sayin' is, dun judge.
In the vial - Incense, orris, and some ginger. Note that I can't remember what asuhi is.
On the skin (wet) - Ginger, orris, and some background leather. This smells like a thing--like a material, not a plant or anything--and I thnk it's the leather that's doing it. I can't call it nice, but it's certainly interesting.
On the skin (dry) - Ginger and orris, with light leather and...something lightening the background up a bit. I think it's the cream, since it doesn't have that incense stench on it. ;) It's very pleasant, and I'm thinking of slathering it to see exactly what the waft is like all over, rather than stuck to my wrist. Or to see if there's any terrible bits involved in the dry down. I might get a sex toy scent after all!
Have I mentioned lately that I love texting? Or that my family loves texting? My sister taught my stepdadster to text, and so I get updates from him and her about family events. My sister loves to send me wacky antics updates, like the ones she sent me tonight. My Dad and stepmom text each other to keep their relationship going, and sometimes text me with stuff, too! Texting is AWESOME! Annoying sometimes? Sure, few human behaviors aren't. To be avoided while driving? Ys plz! But awesome anyways? TOTES.
Oh yes, I really need to go to bed early tonight, don't I?
