I've gotten all my kids' grades in, and now I need to write all of them back to let them know their extra credit assignments are good...but of course, I need a moment to procrastinate.
So let's talk about Radiohead covers.
There's a lot of buzz about Prince's cover of "Creep" at Coachella. I haven't seen it--I can't get any of the YouTube vids to work with sound, which, um, doesn't help--but it got me thinking about an album of Radiohead covers.
Amazon has a listing for one--and I've got a song off it, in fact--but let's grab some others, shall we?
Shiina Ringo covering "Creep"
Hanson covering "Optimistic" (it's awesome, guys. really.)
John Mayer covering "Kid A" (I think this might be the only song of his I like)
Sia covering "Paranoid Android" (I've had this in rotation lately, and it is perfectly creepy and beautiful...no matter what the reviewers on Amazon say)
Scala choir covering "Exit Music" (Children's choir.)
The album has the Bad Plus covering "Karma Police." Personally, I think a more fitting cover by them would be "Climbing Up the Walls," just to get their crazy, frenetic style to come into play. I'd also like to see Muse cover "Just" (if I were to pick a random song), because I think they could tear it up.
And because it'd be interesting, a Jonathan Coulton cover of...some song. Really, he could just pick one, and I think he'd do an excellent job. I'd lean towards a slower song, something easy to make acoustic, but hey, I'm sure he could do pretty much anything and do it justice. (Hi, this is my Jonathan Coulton fan phase. Pony-monkey shirts can be sent to my current address.)
There's some Radiohead fans on this flist, I think. Who would you like to see cover Radiohead, and what song?
