It's my personal opinion (and it might just be headcanon, IDK) that someone who's had to deal with so much rejection in his life just wants to be loved- at any cost. At the same time, Jafar is extremely intelligent, and he knows that Anastasia's love isn't real. I can only imagine that even though he's moved heaven and earth to change the laws of magic he'd still be terrified that she'd leave him. IDK. I just have a lot of Jafar feelings.
