Cafe Babar Issue of Poesy Magazine Party this Saturday

Nov 17, 2005 22:06

Okay, I'm supposed to tell everyone I can about this because the publicity dude got sick and failed to get it into the Chronicle and the Guardian. For all you locals who don't remember or were too young or too stoned or whatever (hey, it WAS the 80's), the Babarians were a group of poets who read at the Cafe Babar on Guerrero in the mid-eighties to early 90's. Major players: Julia Vinograd (the bubble lady of Berkeley), David Lerner, Danielle Willis, Vampyre Mike Kassel, Joie Cook, Q.R. Hand, Kathleen Wood (me), and Bruce Isaacson, among countless others. Basic theme: irreverent, rude, rowdy, and hardcore poetry and spoken word.
The reading will be held at the Cafe International, on Haight between Fillmore and Steiner (it's on the same side of the street as the Mad Dog in the Fog pub, and it's the only true cafe on that side of the street, that block. It will begin at 8 p.m.
So, all you locals, this is not, like, boring-ass poetry, this is intense spoken word by real (aging) characters, so if you can, come on down. It's free. Just buy some coffee or something or Zahara the owner will be annoyed.
Kathleen
