[Crowe was at sign ups for the musical, but he chickened out of any actual auditioning. He's all about new distractions in his life, but he has no idea where he got the idea he could get over stage fright.

Still, he was in a pretty good mood today, so he gives Kurt as smile when he slides up to his lunch table.]

Oh, hi. How're you doing?

[Kurt smiles, primly but pleasantly, and sets down his tray.]

I've been better. You're Crowe, right?

Right. Kurt, yeah?

Mhmm.

[He starts poking at his hot lunch with a spoon delicately, like he's looking for surprise gristle.]

I saw you out shopping, how'd prom go? I... did not attend.

No? It was... It had its ups and downs, but for the most part I had a good time, so I'll consider it a success.

I was droned at the time, so.

[More pettily vicious food-poking.]

Nothing blew up? Nobody died?

Oh, I'm sorry. Um, surprisingly, no. Everything proceeded like a party, actually.

How fortunate for you.

[He looks genuinely sympathetic.] I'm sorry you were droned for it. That's pretty bad timing. But I thought you didn't really want to go...?

Not really, but if other people were having a good time I'd have at least liked to be aware of it. Anyone get pregnant?

There'll be other dances. Or parties. We seem to have a lot.

[He chuckles at that.] Not that I'm aware of.

Anyone get chlamydia and die, then? Mr. Veidt seemed kind of concerned.

Oh, I know! As if everyone was going to walk out of this thing pregnant and full of STDs. I'm glad I survived the carnage then.

I'm sure everyone's just desperate to get laid in such a romantic setting. How he even got condoms here in Pleasantville--

Right, the high school gym covered in paper decorations while everyone gets pissed on spiked punch. And well, it's not like those didn't exist in the 1950s, but I'm surprised they do in Mayfield.

I try not to think about people sucking face behind the dumpsters in the 1950s.
