Catching up on TV

Why is it I've seen two great interviews of the country leaders, King Abdullah of Jordan and PM David Cameron of the UK...and they were both on "frivolous" shows: The Daily Show and Late Night with David Letterman ( Read more... )

I swear the only way I can bear to see any news these days is via the Daily Show. Faux News has been blocked from my tv pretty much since it began, but CNN isn't much better.

I hate to say it but I learn more about what's going on in the Legislature from Stewart and Colbert than from the tv news or the newspapers. Very sad. I can't stand Faux News. It's just a propaganda machine.

Definitely. The sad part is they are the only ones to actually use FACTS! Why a satirical show can get that right when all the supposed news agencies can't is beyond me.

Faux News is a joke. I still can't believe it's still on the air.

Why, you ask, because The Daily Show is seriously awesome. I have a degree in political science, and Jon Stewart is the only one I can tolerate. You may not get the full breadth of news in his half hour show, but you do get a lot of actual commentary on the issues (and even more teasing of the major news networks who seem to mess it up A LOT). He was the only person to bring up in the past several years the 9/11 emergency crews health fund issues and the delays congress is making to getting these men and women who are dying of horrific pervasive cancers and disease the money they need for treatment.

And I love how he points out how hypocritical the news networks are (not just Fox, but they're his favorite) when the same issues arise from election to election and term to term based on whether the person is democrat or republican.

And the majority of his guests WRITE BOOKS. He has maybe one actor a week. and Jon Stewart READS ALL THE BOOKS!!! (He's my hero, seriously :)

I love his show because he doesn't talk down to the audience, and I hear stuff that is happening in DC that I'd never hear about otherwise. And it's great the way he 'reviews' other news shows.

And he must read a LOT of books!
