Kill Bill volume 1:
There are very few directors that both can and want to bring what is essentially an art house movie to the mass market. It is long on style and short on plot, with Uma Thurman's performance holding everything together nicely. The movie comes off as a stitched together sequence of scenes that Mr. Tarantino had rattling around in his head for some time. It is a testament to Ms. Thurman's performance that it holds up against the strong visuals that is at the core of each scene.
The writing is superb and draws you into the story and the characters, although iconic, have enough twists to them to keep them interesting. The story is also well balanced mostly serious with moments of humor to keep everything in perspective. The dialog is great and well paced. I would have been disappointed with anything less. I consider Mr. Tarantino one of the best dialog writers in the business.
In the end it was an enjoyable movie and I look forward to seeing volume 2.

Realistically this is just part one of a two part movie. So I will reserve my views on the work as a whole until I have seen part two.
