"Uhh, what should we do with it? I dunno. Call Animal Control? Too much work..let's just shoot it."

I would just like to express my sadness at the fact that the Thousand Oaks/Moorpark law enforcement has chosen to 'solve' a problem with needless violence.

For the last couple of days (as I am sure most of you people out there already know) a tiger has been on the loose in the hills near Tierra Rejada after it escaped from its cage in a local home, where it was being kept illegally. Obviously this is a problem, especially considering the amount of homes surrounding the area.

I assumed that if the tiger were found, it would be captured with the aid of tranquilizer darts and then taken to animal protection services, or the zoo or something.

BUT, NO. Rather than use this seemingly obvious solution, the local law decided to play 'hunter vigilante.' As far as I know, the tiger was not attacking when they found it, and so it would seem like a good time to keep an eye on it, call animal protection services, and wait for it to be tranqed.

BUT, NO.

They shot the tiger and KILLED IT.

I am not usually all animal-rights obsessive, but this really made me sad. I watched on the news as its lifeless body was being carried away in a net by a helicopter.

Pointless violence-- as if we didn't have enough of that in the world already.
