Gifts keep appearing under the tree, two and three at a time. She curls up on the couch once she's done with a cup of cocoa and a candy cane.

Ten eventually appears in the room, coat still on and carrying several massive shopping bags. "Love, really, I could have wrapped some of those for you. Don't strain yourself."

"I didn't. These are going to be as much a surprise for me as for you...They were all already wrapped in my room." she laughs softly, "Go me."

"I have a second gift for you...I, uh..." He pauses. "I don't know if you'll like it. If you'll remember why you'd like it. But I want to give it to you."

((As soon as Rhi finishes watching The Christmas Invasion, that is.))

"A second gift? Hit me." she smiles brightly, awaiting the challenge.

He hands her a flat package containing a bilingual signed first edition of Neruda's Cien sonetos de amor/One Hundred Love Sonnets (trans. Tapscott). The card reads one of my own will come soon. hopefully these will speak on my behalf until then..

The book is inscribed with something private on the other flyleaf, in silver ink, and is marked with a ribbon at Sonnet VII:

Come with me, I said, and no one knew
where, or how my pain throbbed,
no carnations or barcaroles for me,
only a wound that love had opened.

I said it again: Come with me, as I were dying,
and no one saw the moon that bled in my mouth
or the blood that rose into the silence.
O Love, now we can forget the star that has such thorns!

That is why, when I heard your voice repeat
Come with me, it was as if you had let loose
the grief, the love, the fury of a cork-trapped wine

that geysers flooding from deep in its vault:
in my mouth I felt the taste of fire again,
of blood and carnations, of rock and scald.

Swallowing hard, her eyes glisten. Barely audible when she speaks, she looks from the book to him. "Really?"

He watches her and nods slowly. He doesn't trust himself to speak, but he tries, voice cracking. "Yes."

"Yes. I love...Neruda. I love you. And yes...it does." she smiles softly and holds the book to her heart.

He closes his eyes, blushing. "Good." Was this what having a heart attack felt like? Doubled? Because he was going to break into pieces.

"This is generally where the boy kisses the girl." she nods softly, and smiles, leaning forward and closing her eyes.

Ten's voice is soft and husky as he watches her. "Oh, fear not, the boy's definitely going to do that." He moves in, bending down to her, coat still cool, and kisses her, long and slow.

"Je t'aime, ma belle," he whispers against her lips.

"Je t'aime, amoureaux" she smiles against his lips before kisses him again.

Sometime around 10 PM, a pile of gifts appear under the tree, all wrapped neatly in blue and silver pinstriped paper.

Jack, having collected the gift that he had left hidden at Mr. Phale's bookshop for CJ at some indeterminate time because omg is this late, wrapped it and put it under the tree.

The Doctor's present was harder. He wasn't used to buying presents, and he'd used up all his ingenuity on CJ's. So he ended up getting something because he thought it was fun, and hoped that the Doctor would like it, too.
