I'm hoping I don't know any of these books (why does "frog spear" sound so familiar though?), unless I'm right that #3 is "Bellwether". (It certainly sounds like Connie Willis.)

Actually, #5 was what I guessed it was--mostly by knowing what you've been reading--but that doesn't explain why I'd remember a "frog spear".

Bellwether it is. i don't know why you'd know 'frog spear'. and, honestly, i don't want to know.

1. One of the Dragonlance books, clearly. One of the Legends series, almost certainly. So... Time of the Twins? Test of the Twins? War of the Twins?

2. The Riddlemaster of Hed?

3. Heh.

4. I feel like I should know this one, but I do not.

5. Pretty clearly Song of Ice and Fire, I'm pretty sure it's A Game of Thrones

1) yes, though, as you realized later, it's the first one.

2) yes.

5) yes. it's actually the third one, which is the only one that had SIPs. i was really disappointed that 'lords bannermen' didn't make it--maybe only for the first one.

It's tough when the books are from a series.

#1 has to be one of the Dragonlance books. I'll guess Dragons of Autumn Twilight?

#5 is a George R. R. Martin book- maybe A Game of Thrones?

Dang, while I was writing my answers, lapak got to them first.

Well, don't feel all bad - first of all, you're definitely more right than I was on # 1. I didn't register "blue crystal staff" until the second pass, and that's the Plot Device from Autumn Twilight. Whoops. I'm now solidly certain on 1 and 5, and probably 2.

Secondly, I finally broke down and cheated on 4. It was REALLY bugging me to know-but-not-know the answer, and now I do. I've got a good hint for it, but it's not my game. I am curious if anyone has an answer for 3, though.

It's tough when the books are from a series.

yeah. but the good thing about it is you get to pick and choose the book with the best words. and getting the series is probably good enough.

well, weis and hickman and george r. r. martin are both more highly recommended than hermes ochenbach, a. b. shoppingcarts, or akashi h. fischberg.
