Permissions Part III: Disclaimers

Jul 15, 2011 19:03

Because I am a wimp, I need to dedicate an entire journal entry to assorted disclaimers. Can anyone say FAIL?

Disclaimer A: Does it seem like Ienzo doesn't give you enough material to write a post off of? Unfortunately, he happens to be a very introverted little herpaderp, and will try at every opportunity to minimize his presence in any given situation. Sorry about that. n_n'

Disclaimer A-2: Unfortunately, he's also a very stoic herpaderp, which is why he has so few icons and why I seem to forget to change his icon all the time. I'm not. He just has no expression (and DEFINITELY not because he has zero icons on the face of the planet, WHAT COULD HAVE GIVEN YOU THAT IDEA). xP
Disclaimer B: I tag back. Fast. If I don't, I'll almost certainly forget and you won't get a reply ever. (Unless you remind me, in which case I will turn into an apologetic moe-blob and reply even faster in the future.)

Disclaimer C: Ienzo's area of study is Darkness, as well as its interactions with the heart. Since this would be utter nonsense to anyone who has not played Kingdom Hearts before, I have written a summary.

Every being in Kingdom Hearts is comprised of three parts: heart, soul, body. Bodies are, well, bodies, and souls are basically the life force of a being. Now, the important bit: hearts. We’re not talking the organ in your chest which pumps blood; that’s counted under the body. No, hearts in the context that Ienzo will probably mention them are pretty much the cornerstone of the entire stinkin’ Kingdom Hearts series. They’re also very vaguely defined.

As far as we know, hearts are essentially the part of the human which gives them their emotions. (Basic primal emotions like fear or sexual lust don’t count.) They are also where the Light and Darkness of beings are contained.

Now, note that we’re not talking light as in luminosity, and darkness as in the absence of light. Light and Darkness, capitalized, are both definite energetic forces in the world of Kingdom Hearts - they’re kind of like magic, except more unpredictable and infinitely more powerful. Most beings has Light and Darkness in them, to various proportions.

Notice I said ‘most’… because there are a few exceptions. Hearts of pure Light can be either born or synthesized; there are several characters in the series who just happened to be born with hearts of pure Light. There was also a certain character in the series whose heart was literally ripped into a Light and Dark half, each one receiving a soul and body to match; therefore, even though this character was an incomplete heart, he was still functional and still is considered a heart of pure light.

On the other hand, those with hearts of pure Darkness exist as well, also in natural and synthetic varieties. When a heart is overcome by Darkness (there is no such thing as people being born with purely Dark hearts, as far as we know), it is separated from the body. There, it is given a completely new body which looks vaguely humanoid (depending on the strength of the heart: the stronger the heart, the more humanoid the new form). These creatures are called Heartless, and are classified as Purebloods. The other classification, Emblem Heartless, is for Heartless which were actually synthetically made; Emblems are much more colorful and varied in their forms, and they all have a certain symbol somewhere on their person, hence the name.

But that’s not the end of the Darkness. There are also creatures called Nobodies. I mentioned earlier that a strong heart denotes a more humanoid Heartless. However, if the heart is extremely strong, there will be another being created alongside the Heartless, composed of the discarded body and soul. They are slightly more colorful than Pureblood Heartless, and are mostly gray instead of black. These creatures are called Nobodies, and like Heartless, they have classes. The Nobodies I just described are called Lesser Nobodies. Higher Nobodies are pretty much the exact same thing, the discarded body and soul, except they look completely human and are intelligent enough to function as normal human beings would. Of course, they have no heart, which means they have no emotions. But those are details, and some Higher Nobodies pretend they have emotions anyhow. (Lesser Nobodies are not mentally advanced enough to know or care.)

Now, I want you to look up at the above paragraphs. See those dashes? All of the information between those dashes are completely unknown to Ienzo. They were all discoveries made past his divergence point in the timeline.

As far as Ienzo is concerned, there is no such thing as the Heartless or the Nobodies. (Yes, for those of you who follow Kingdom Hearts, this means that if you tell him, “Hey, you’re Zexion’s Somebody!” he will look at you as if you’re insane. For those of you who don’t, Ienzo became a Nobody later on in his timeline, but of course he would know nothing about it now.)

Disclaimer C.2: Instead of Heartless, the enemies of the game/monstrous creatures that he knew were called Unversed. They are essentially physical forms of various negative emotions, nobody in Radiant Garden (his homeworld) knows where they come from, and they have the distinct honor of being possibly the only things on earth that can seriously scare him.
