I got kicked out of the Vatican.

Yes, seriously.

That's total bullcrap. When i was there there were tons of people taking pictures. Though you aren't really supposed to.

Were you weearing shorts? did your t-shirt say anything? were you speaking in an higher tone above a whisper? There must have been something aside from picture taking that made them throw you out and the picture taking was just a good excuse.

Of course the guards could have been having an "i'm going to be an asshole" day...

Yeah, hence the guy shouting for everyone to be quiet. (See other comment.)

Still, I got probably a good dozen pictures before they grabbed me, and I wasn't being subtle about it.

Yeah, the interior of the museum wasn't too crowded -- I mean, it was, but I'm sure it's worse when tourist season is in full bloom. My camera was almost out of juice, so I didn't take a picture of it, but there was one little intersection where you could go one of two ways, and there were two signs labelled "Sistine Chapel" with arrows pointing in opposite directions.

At the time, I said something like, "If this were anywhere else, I'd think it were a great joke they were playing on the tourists. But, I don't think the Vatican has that much of a sense of humor."

Excellent choice of icon, by the way. :)

No, it was definitely the camera. They've apparently tightened up their controls; they had a guy bellowing in Italian to be quiet whenever anyone spoke above a whisper, which was rather obnoxiously self-defeating.
