Blink.

Blink.

EVA rubbed her eyes with clammy hands.

She stood next to a cot, in the middle of a bright, white room (save for a few dark, tinted windows on the wall opposite her). Her head was pounding and she was drenched in sweat.

Tired. Weak. EVA took a step back and situated herself onto the cot, holding her head in her hands.

The door opened with a quiet click and the blonde looked up in time to catch someone let themselves in. Behind them, EVA caught a glimpse of two other figures before the door was shut and she lowered her head again.

"We did it," the other person announced, cheerily. The voice was feminine. Familiar. The doctor.

"Congratulations," EVA replied quietly.

There was the soft click of the other woman's heels against the stark white floors and EVA could see her feet out of the corner of her eye.

"We've finished our work without a hitch. Do you want to meet them?"

EVA looked up to look at the woman. Her vision was blurry and she couldn't make out her face.

"I want to." Her voice cracked when she spoke.

Even as she moved closer, EVA couldn't see her face. She could see there were two small figures in the woman's arms. Two babies. Two boys.

EVA reached out, running her fingers through the soft hair of one of the babies. "Can I hold him?" she asked.

Without saying a word, the boy was transferred to EVA's arms.

His hair color matched her own. A small, tired smile played on her lips. She knew it was just a coincidence, but she couldn't help herself. "Beautiful," she murmured under her breath.

"Do they have names?" she asked, looking back up at the mysterious female.

She laughed quietly before answering. "I had something in mind. I don't think ₪░►☼'s-" the word or name was replaced with strange static, though EVA took no notice- "interested in names."

"And?"

"►□≈יִ◊ and ♣╗☼◘."

EVA laughed quietly. "Cute. Very clever."

The other woman quieted, shifting the other young human from one shoulder to the other.

EVA thought for a moment. These children were bred to be soldiers. Human weapons.

Her smile faded. She looked back down at the one in her own arms. Lowering her voice to her quietest whisper, EVA moved her hand over the little being's peach-fuzz hair. "My God..." she closed her eyes. "What are they going to do to you?" Pause. "What have they done to you?"

"Hm?" The other lifted her head to look over at EVA.

She didn't respond. Instead, the blonde let out a hushed hiccup as a tear rolled down her cheek. The doctor moved closer still, easing the boy back into her arm.

"I'll be back later. To check on you..."

EVA didn't hear the door click over the pounding in her head.
