“Otogi.”

“I’m almost done.” I kept right on working.

“Otogi...”

“Just a second!” I looked up from where I was kneeling by Seto’s feet. “Impatient, aren’t you?”

“I just don’t know why we have to be doing this here, in public.”

“Okay, I’m finished now, so stop moaning!”

I leaped up and admired my handiwork. Seto Kaiba, CEO of Kaiba Corporation, stood impassively before the rising sun. The ocean wind ruffled his hair and pulled at his trenchcoat, the flowing movements making his lean, taut body look even more impressive than normal.

Then he frowned and looked down at his bare feet and the trouser legs I’d spent so much time rolling up into neat little folds. “We couldn’t have done this at your game shop?” he grumbled.

“Well, we could have, but it’s not Casual Day.”

“But this is so...undignified.”

“Well, better than showing up at KaibaCorp with sand crusted around your pants, isn’t it?” I replied cheerily. “Sometimes a change in venue is what’s needed. Live a little, Kaiba-kun!”

We started walking, leaving our shoes and socks behind. I grinned, enjoying the beach and the company I kept. Seto never really knew what to do with me. I wasn’t a true rival like Yuugi, or an adorable puppy like Jounouchi. I wasn’t ignorable like Anzu or Honda, and I didn’t have Pegasus’ elegant stature. When we were together, Seto was always unsure and hesitant, and that was the way I liked it. He trudged along, using his briefcase as a pendulum as he stumbled through the deep sand. “What did you want, Otogi? I’ve got a busy schedule today.”

“Oh, the usual, Kaiba-kun...” Sauntering next to him, I began prattling off whatever business matters popped into my head, Seto nodding, listening, and occasionally commenting. And every so often, I’d be thrilled by a bit of skin peeking out from the expensive fabric, Seto’s slender ankles flexing and working hard as he walked. Lots of people knew the CEO, but how many ever saw his naked feet?

Finally I ran out of boring topics and Seto stopped. “I’ll have my secretary fax you the updates,” he said, nodding briefly.

Oh, no way. I had spent weeks trying to wrangle an appointment with Seto, and he wasn’t leaving now. I had to do something, anything to keep him guessing and off-balance. Impulsively I swiped his briefcase. “I wonder, is this thing waterproof?” I asked, hefting it so I could check out the seams.

“What are you talking about?”

I laughed and sped up, making a beeline for the water. “Hey, Rude Kaisers float, don’t they?”

“Give me my briefcase!“ Seto snapped, following me.

He grabbed it and tugged hard, but I didn’t let go, coasting with his momentum until we stood together. The contact that began with our feet grounded with our hands clutching the handle. Seto froze, but didn’t try to pull away. I leaned into him a little, reveling in the sensation of standing so close to him. Even the backs of his hands were strong and sharp.

“I told you it would feel good, didn’t I?”

His fingers tightened over mine, and then he backed away, running a hand through his hair and holding the briefcase close to his side.

“Sorry, Otogi. Next time we either meet at KaibaCorp, or not at all.”

I gave an easy wave and pretended a fake turn towards the ocean as he began the march back to our parked cars. But after a few steps, Seto’s determined pace slowed and he began to weave a little, taking more and more time to place one foot ahead of the other. I drank in the sight of curving heels blending into sleek arches; his peach-colored feet winked at me, and I winked right back.

Hopefully, the rest of him would look just as good.
