Hmmm... I've heard fabulous things about this book too, but it sounds like I'll have the same trouble as you. Glad I haven't picked it up yet!

I don't know, maybe I'm just crazycakes? All I was hearing before hand was that it was so original, and the love interests were great. I sometimes wondered if I was actually reading a different book!

That's happened to me before as well. Hell, I'm having that feeling now reading A Feast of Crows. Everyone was having conniption fits over it when it came out, and they say it's the worst of the series. Maybe it's because I went in with low expectations, but so far, so good....

I haven't gotten that far in A Song of Ice and Fire yet so I can't comment about the quality of that particular book, but one thing I've noticed about books that take a REALLY long time to come out is that people tend to be very judgmental of the books when they actually come out. There's just way too much build up, you know?

There is. It's such an intricate series that if you're reading while the books are being published, you've got lots of time to forget those important details. I imagine the HBO series helps in some way, but his fans always find something to complain about, either with the books or the show. To each their own, I guess...
