So I'm in trouble.
I haven't put as much work in the last week as I should have. I've taken two days off, and the days when I have written, I've put in less time. Part of it is because I've been busy, but another part of it is due to the to the fact that my story is just no longer exciting me. My characters seem less compelling. I don't look forward to sitting down and writing, and the novel doesn't occupy my thoughts as much as it used to. I know I need to at least push myself to the 50k mark but I know that this story is somewhere from 10-20k longer than that. The question is, do I push myself to finish it, even though the work will end up being sub-par, or do I take a break? The latter will probably result in my novel wasting away on my hard drive from anywhere from months to years.
So if anyone happens to be reading this, what do you do when your writing projects (or any other kind of art-y project) no longer excites you? How do you bring back the spark that got you first excited about writing it?
