The Long Haul

Have you ever had those times when you are on a long road trip, and you need to pee like a race horse? Your car passes a sign, "rest stop - 5 miles". You can't help but think about how those were the longest 5 miles of your life.

I just made a reservation to go up to Seattle for a weekend visit (I will not say when, as it is a surprise for some readers :)). Suddenly, on this Sunday evening, I have discovered that all I am doing is thinking about that trip. I've already thought out my woredrobe, who I'm going to see and when, and thinking about where I'm going to stay--and this trip is two months away. In the midst of all this reverie and planning, I look towards tomorrow, Monday- the start of the work week.

I have found that the luster of a new job has long since worn off, and given the past week I've had, I'm not really looking forward to this next one--almost like being slapped and then flinching the next time a hand comes to caress your face. With the hind-sight of the last week, looking on with trepidation to this next one, and knowing there are 8 weeks between me and the next "rest stop" for relief, I find that this has become quite an endurence race.

I guess in the midst dire need for relief, you just can't think about how much you need it at the time, distract yourself, and the miles will pass before you know it.

Here's to distraction--
Cheers.
