Asch had been buying the groceries that she'd use to cook for the next two weeks, instead of relying on takeout like most of her roommates. Asch... She loved to cook. She'd devoted so many hours back to it in her Template, just learning how to mix everything to make it taste delicious. It was the only type of shopping that she was any good at-- besides weapons shopping. Which was much more difficult to do within the city anyway.

Eventually... she'd need new clothes.

She'd think about that later, especially as her thought process was derailed and she herself nearly fell over from a surprise pouncing she'd received from Haruhi. She blinked, looking down at the girl as a light red blush covered her face. And once the surprise had vanished, she frowned. Deeply. Very deeply.

"You can't just surprise someone like that!" though it had been her fault for not being aware. And... Haruhi was particularly quiet. "Why are you alone?"

Haruhi pressed her face into Asch's stomach, trying to get some comfort. Asch was nice, Asch would help. The whole video with the Joker had terrified her, he was so much like the men back at the facility, cold with out a regard for life. And then Nataku had left to find him, Haruhi shivered and clung to the older girl.

"'Taku left to find the scary man and my house is lonely. I don't wanna be alone."

Asch paused at her words. The scary man... The strange clown guy, the one that had killed those people... Asch gritted her teeth in anger just thinking about that performance. She should be out looking too. She would be out looking, as soon as she finished shopping. They didn't have maids here, they didn't have people to cater to their every need.

Asch looked down at the trembling girl, frowning, though it was softer than before.

And then she looked at the shelves. "Fine, but don't get in the way. I need to finish running errands."

Relief flooded Haruhi at Asch's words; Asch was going to be with her, and she wouldn't have to be lonely anymore. Even though Asch was a girl, Haruhi thought she looked pretty strong, the scary man couldn' hurt Asch.

"I'll be good, promise," Haruhi climbed up onto the side of the shopping cart and tumbled inside. She sat up and crawled to the end of the cart, getting to be like so many other kids for once.

Asch... didn't know if that was normal. Her world didn't have shopping carts, just... baskets. But you never bought for long term there. Asch didn't even know why she needed the cart here. "W-what are you doing!" She had to ask, partially out of surprise, partially because she didn't know that that was normal for kids. She.. never bothered to pay attention to the mothers with their children (why should she?) to know the answer to this.

Despite her exclamation, she continued to push the shopping cart, trying to focus more on the shelves than on the girl inside of the cart. It was hard, though, because Asch was not used to something like this.

Haruhi crawled over to the back of the cart next to Asch. Hadn't Asch ever been in a store before? Even she had done that. "It's what kids do in shopping carts."

Her focus on the shelves was being ruined again, and she turned to look at Haruhi, with a dubious frown (she frowned a lot, all the time). There were no shopping carts in her world! How was she supposed to know this (without actually observing). But she simply shook her head and replied gruffly.

"We don't have these metal carts in my world."

Haruhi decided to do Asch a favor and reached out to grab the object on the shelf for her and set in the cart. She was nervous, was Asch made at her? She had just wanted to ride in the cart like all the other kids got to. Gripping Sammi tightly, she stared up at Asch with big eyes. "Can I still ride in it?"

A glance at what Haruhi had pulled down in the cart. It was a spice she'd already had, but she left it in the cart, and grabbed the spice that she wanted, without saying anything else.

After a moment, "As long as you don't grab things from the shelf..."

Haruhi nodded and curled up in the corner of the cart. She didn't want to make Asch upset, she had promised to be a good girl after all. Instead, the little girl focused on all the food on the shelves, there was so many that she had never even seen before. It was almost hard not to grab them, but she was determined to be a good girl.

Asch was surprised, after a few minutes, that Haruhi hadn't grabbed anything, just like she'd asked. And she'd stopped being a total distraction, though Asch felt awkward pushing her around in the cart. This was normal, she had to remind herself, and she was only doing it because Haruhi was a little girl and shouldn't be alone. She couldn't leave her alone, not with that madman out there somewhere. And she'd only be shopping for a few more minutes anyway.

She placed the last item in the cart, and she looked at Haruhi, kind of studying her and wondering what the poor girl could have possibly been through, and why her clothes were still far too big for her.

It wasn't as easy to sit still as Haruhi made it look. She wanted nothing more than to grab all the fun looking things of the shelf and play with all the things Asch had already picked up. But, she had made a promise and if she broke it...would Asch punish her like what used to happen in the facility? Haruhi wasn't sure she wouldn't.

Once Asch had stopped placing so many things in the cart, Haruhi looked up at her, wondering if they were done.

Asch looked away when Haruhi looked back, staring at the checkout stations. She was used to them, and she had the money on her person (a wallet, because she could never ever carry a purse, too girly). All from that job as a cook... and in desperate times, a waitress... that she'd gotten a few months ago. "I'm finished shopping," Asch explained to the little girl as she moved the sparsely filled shopping cart to check out.

Haruhi nodded and struggled to climb out of the cart and not fall. Honestly, all the food was making her hungry. She hadn't eaten since Zack had taken her out for ice cream a few days ago. Otherwise she had only had a few pieces of things she had found in the kitchen and thought no one was eating.

Asch thought about it for a minute, though she didn't say anything as she paid for everything. There was nothing to say, really. Just pay for everything, right?

Once done, and once carrying her bags, Asch offered, "... I'll make you lunch, if you want," she said quietly, almost as if she couldn't believe that she was saying it herself.

Haruhi blinked up at Asch, "Really?" she asked, unsure if it was true. She knew Asch was nice, but she didn't know that Asch was that nice. Why couldn't she live with Asch. Haruhi followed after Asch, only to trip over her over large shoes.
