Sam took the bowl of crackers and nibbled thoughtfully on a handful, not exactly hungry but rationally realizing that he'd have to keep eating and sleeping like a normal person if he wanted to get anything done. Running on fumes didn't get anyone far. He was content enough to eat snack food and watch the movie, immersed deeply in his own thoughts as the familiar scenes flickered in electric blue on the screen.

"They're coming to get you, Barbara," the man's face on the screen taunted, stretched gruesomely out of proportion by the ancient VHS film. His features hissed with the physical static of the black and white film's age, shadowed and speckled. The woman screamed, her pretty mouth stretching into a long bow of horror as some zombie actor with a face lathered in mortician's wax knocked her brother to the ground. His head hit a gravestone with a sick thump and she screamed, screamed, screamed.

Sam swallowed hard, jaw working, and flicked a quick sideways look over at Rose. She acted friendly towards him, cheerfully bright despite having known him all of one afternoon, and this made him wonder what her relationship was with him---other him, Sam Version Two. She'd carefully skirted around saying anything, but he'd caught the way she looked at him, and it was unsettling for him. She smiled like she expected him to smile back, like the attraction she was used to was perfectly mutual. And yeah, maybe it was some mutual thing between Other!Sam and herself, but there was nothing between her and him.

Rose wasn't paying too much attention to the movie, at first--she was too busy thinking about how weird it was to be sitting next to Sam, but....not Sam.
She also hoped she wasn't freaking him out somehow, because he seemed a bit uncomfortable.

She thoughtfully ate a forkful of cake, chewing slightly on the fork, and directing her attention back to the movie.

Uncomfortable was an understatement. Sam was shaky and so thoroughly weirded out by everything that had happened/was happening/could happen, he could barely sit still. He was sure that if he totally relaxed, letting the stress wash over him and out of him, he'd pass out. Maybe for a couple of days. It'd do him good in the long run, sure, but he didn't want to give up that easily.

Reaching for a handful of chips, he broke the silence. With the familiar movie going and the stillness of the city, he'd fall asleep for sure if he didn't keep himself occupied.

"Uh, so. You watch movies with the Winchesters often?"

Rose swallowed her last bite of cake, and looked at him. "Movies? Not really. Well, once. Maybe twice?"

She leaned forward and put the plate back on the table. "Usually when I run into them something else is happening, though."

"We used to watch movies all the time growing up," Sam commented blandly, rubbing his eyes again with the back of his hand. They felt raw. Someone onscreen screamed, and he only barely stopped himself from jumping a little. "Me and Dean, that is. Every Friday night in high school, if Dad was gone hunting. I figure that's probably the first thing Dean would want to do if he retired, so..."

He shrugged negligently, a small twitch of one shoulder.

Rose shrugged, as well. "I think they watch movies together, yeah. Contrary to popular belief, I don't spend every waking minute there, so I don't really know."

She reached out and grabbed a cookie. "Like I said, though, all of the movies are Dean's, so I'm guessing he's been watching them...."

He backpedaled a little at that, brows creasing with a deep, thoughtful fold of worry.

"I didn't mean to insinuate that you did spend a lot of time there. I don't know. Mr. Clueless Fell Out of the Sky Today Winchester, remember?" Sam cleared his throat awkwardly.

If what Dean had said was true...well. Did that Dean had any reason to lie to him---especially him? He was the one person his Dean couldn't lie to properly, so he figured this Dean would have just as rough a time of it. "So, any reason you didn't tell me you were dating the other me?"

Rose blinked. "Er.....not really, no. Well, actually...I sorta thought it'd be really awkward, y'know? 'Hi, i'm Rose Tyler, nice to meet you, you look exactly like my boyfriend.....'"

She scratched the back of her neck nervously, out of habit. "...Probably should have mentioned it, huh? Sorry 'bout that."

"Uh, well...yeah. I guess so. I just...I'm not him, you know? I'm not that Sam. I'm different."

Sam rubbed the back of his neck, almost unselfconsciously mirroring her movements. He felt stupidly nervous about the whole thing, and decided that it was pretty much the cherry on his week. He was almost too tired to get all up in arms about the weirdness of it---him having a girlfriend of all things. There'd been Jessica, but he'd only dated her for about eight months before Dean had stormed back into his life. Being with her had been sweaty hands and mis-angled kisses for a lot of the time, nice and sweet and easy. Sam was pretty sure he'd loved her. This other Sam had been with Jessica for years, he'd said, and now he had another girlfriend...?

It was one thing when Dean bedded a lot of girls. That was just Dean. But having a copy of himself get laid more often and successfully than he did? That nettled his pride, just a little.

"I've noticed," she said, smiling slightly. "Sorry if I've been making you uncomfortable or anything. I haven't meant to."

Finishing her handful of chips, wiped her hands on her pants. "...well, this isn't awkward at all."

He grinned finally, and it was painfully crooked, creasing one dimpled cheek.

"No. You've been a great hostess. Guess I needed someone to tell me to sit down and stop since..." Sam let the thought trail into another shrug, this one implicitly labeled Dean with his body language and the way he looked away. "Thanks, Rose. I'll make sure to wear different shirts from Sam Two so things don't get awkwarder than they already are."

Rose smiled at him. "Different shirts? Sounds good." She looked thoughtful for a moment, and smiled a bit wider. "I'm sure it'll be easy to tell you two apart after a while, though."

"Oh, and even if you weren't, y'know, a Sam, I would have told you the same thing. You just really looked like you could use a break."

"Seems like he smiles a lot, yeah. I'll be Scowly Sam," he said, though the thought of being labeled Scowly Sam for the remainder of his time in Template made his lips twitch into a begrudging full grin. "The cards definitely fell in his favor. Hah. Maybe that's where all my luck went..."

Sam swiped his hands over his eyes, rubbing the tension out. "Can't really afford a break just yet."

"Oh, I dunno 'bout the scowly thing. Might not last long."

She watched him run his hands over his face, with just the barest hint of a smile on her own. "I know the feeling, but not taking one will just make things worse, you know."

He pawed at his sleep-gritty eyes, mumbling something thick and feeling/looking about five years old.

"After the movie, I'll take a nap," he said solemnly, though he knew that the moment his clogged head hit a pillow, he'd be dead to the world for at least the next fifteen hours. "And then, back to reading. I lost most of the afternoon, but it wasn't like I had any leads anyhow. I'm seriously thinking herbs aren't the way to go. Maybe...I dunno."

"Well, it's better than nothing," Rose said, shrugging slightly. "If you wake up and want something to eat, kitchen's open, the bathroom's open if you want to shower or something." She bit her lip, lost in thought.

"Maybe, if you're overwhelmed a bit, you could ask the other Sam and Dean for help?"
