Dear all,
So I guess I have been in Japan for 20 months. I went to see my buddy Sean last weekend. I meet him way back (it seems like anyway) at the first orientation things in LA before I came to Japan. We hung out with Byron as well. But we lost all track of him once we left Tokyo. It was great catching up with Sean but it really put my time in Japan till now into sharp focus.
Sean and I hadn't really kept in great touch up till now, so talking was a lot of catching up and figuring out where we were in life now. He and his girlfriend from California broke up and now he is with someone new. He stayed a second year, which was really unexpected. Of the original group Byron was supposed to stay for 3, me 2, and Sean only 1. Byron ended up jumping ship before the end of his first year (well according to the grapevine). I am now going for 3 and Sean stayed for 2. So a really interesting switch.
One thing that kept coming up in conversation was how we have been here for 20 months. I never would have put a number to it. But I guess he is right. A lot has happened in my time here. I am not sure how it all works yet, but definately an interesting experience. So it got me thinking about all the things that I have done in my time here and what I do with my day in Japan.
All this was on my mind when I spoke with Julia last night at Ping's place. It was a potluck. A ton of people came and it was great. Sups mom cooked some great somosas. Dude they were good. But we were talking about why she is leaving at the end of the term. She is really unhappy with some things and doesn't feel as if she is playing to her strengths. Oh cleaning time. Finish this idea later.
