The concept of "be nice to this person on their birthday" is completely ridiculous. I can tell that some people really had to TRY to be nice to me. Don't say that you can do something for me behind a grin that looks more like a grimace of pain, then turn around at the stroke of midnight and take everything back.
This is why I didn't advertise my birthday widely; It's because I knew NO ONE WOULD CARE. No one would give two shits because they fear the "obligation" of being nice to me for one day out of three hundred and sixty five when they could spread out that niceness into a warm, fuzzy, tolerable blanket.
What happened to the golden rule? Are people really that paranoid? Is friendship really that DEAD?
I think so. The only thing that exists in our society anymore are business partners, fuck buddies, and those we work with but happen to hate at the same time.
This is where I lower my expectations, my friends, and shut myself in entirely. I am driven to be selfish, and so I shall be.
Your disregard for me has lead to my disregard for you.
