I just watched the Shakespeare Uncovered episode about Measure for Measure, with Romola Garai, who was a perfect host (I remain gutted that I couldn't see her as Isabella, although it sounds like the shock-value stuff in the production - blow-up sex dolls? really? - might have driven me up a wall). I played the provost once.

I think it's fascinating how awful the Duke is -- how he's really only a more dapper Angelo, trading Claudio's life for Isabella.

Hey -- did you see the Ian McKellan HD live of Lear?

Yes - he hasn't really learned anything from his observing Vienna society, and feels just as entitled to Isabella as Angelo, in some ways!

I did! I went with friends, which was nice, but meant that I didn't take any notes at intermission...
