this week in Sleepy Hollow

So Abbie taught Ichabod about the fist bump; it was a thing of beauty and a joy forever.

My main wish for this show (aside from cutting back on or avoiding the more egregious historical-inaccuracy shenanigans) is that it could just slow the pace down a bit. This week's revelation (so to speak) - that the Horseman was actually Ichabod's friend and Katrina's former fiancé - really feels like something that should have been in the season finale, so that we could have had a chance to know something about those relationships beforehand, rather than having the relationships raised and ended all in one episode. (I also think this would have helped to avoid the ridiculous situation where Ichabod thinks that the best time to tell his friend that he and Katrina are in love (what is the eighteenth-century equivalent of "sorry, bro"?) is on a crucial top-secret mission, because we only have forty-five minutes, so the conversation and the duel have to happen in the same scene.)

I am very much interested in where they are planning to take Andy's character, though (I am hoping for some kind of undead redemption story with him, but probably won't get one. John Cho is great at being creepy and yet abject and pitiable, so I hope they make lots more use of him). Ichabod sass-interrogating the Horseman made my day, and his loss of control was a useful thing to see from him - I like that just as he doesn't always know everything about history because he lived through it, he's not always right or perfect. And I loved Abbie's calling him out on his arrogance, to believe that he was somehow responsible for his friend's choices. Jenny and Irving made a great double-act, and I love those moments where Jenny is just genuinely taken aback by some of the things that have happened to Abbie lately; she seems to underestimate her sister a bit (after all, she's the adventurer and the rebel, right? Abbie's just a cop in a sleepy town*), but we all know that Abbie Mills is made of pretty stern stuff.

*Pun actually not intended, I swear.
