one more thing I love about Miss Martha Jones.
The fact that she's just as skeptical about the Master's name as she is initially about the Doctor's. "I mean, who'd call himself 'the Master'?" Disdainful air quotes and everything. Love it. (And in fact, she calls him "Saxon" at the beginning of the phone call, not the Master. I don't remember if that stays true in the finale--probably not--but I liked it here.)
Also, I love her crazy driving, and the fact that the Doctor and Jack either have to get into the car or be left behind, because Martha isn't stopping for anything. That's three things, I guess. And I always love the way the doctor in her comes out when people are hurt, her little "I've got you" to the Doctor at the end. (Which takes us back to "42." One of the things I love so much about the Ten-Martha dynamic is the fact that Martha sees the Doctor so often when he's vulnerable or incapacitated (S&J, TSC, Gridlock [emotionally], EoD, HN/FoB, Blink [if we count being without the TARDIS, which I totally do], and SoD/LotTL). (That may have been the laziest parenthetical note I've ever written.) And the Doctor has to lean on and depend on Martha in those moments in a way that really interests me, and I wish they'd done more with that--or at least made the Doctor seem a bit more aware of just *how much* he asks of Martha. Which is really thrown into relief by the fact that he does the same thing to Jack in "Utopia." What if Jack doesn't *want* to go into a room full of radiation? You could at least *ask*.)
However, I do NOT love the SciFi Channel for chopping the episode up in nonsensical ways with its incredibly repetitive commercials, or for bleeping out the word "box" when Sharon Osborne says that Saxon can tick her box any day (that's not even a bad *word* there, you guys!). Or for the really serious crime of cutting out that little look Martha and Jack exchange when the Doctor says, "It's like when you fancy someone, and they don't even know you exist," and then Jack says to Martha, "You too, huh?" YOU FAIL, SciFi. (Though while I'm on that scene--I still hate the Doctor's comment there, because he *knows* how Martha feels. She's told him! But Martha's comment about how the perception field works, "It's like I know you're there, but I don't want to know"? Totally the way the Doctor looks at Martha. He absolutely cares about her, and refuses to admit it to himself. That is my opnion, and I am sticking to it. :P )
On the whole, I think that on second viewing, and even after seeing the finale, I still agree with most of this. It turns out that in the finale, there's a slight attempt at resolution of one thing mentioned, but I don't think it works.
