getting dressed in winter is like reverse archaeology.

I'm having a very "I'm Chandler, could I be wearing any more clothes?" kind of day today. I'm wearing:

1 pair navy blue tights, under
1 pair black leggings, under
1 pair white knee-high socks, under
1 pair tall brown boots. (You can see the white socks peeking out over the tops. This is about as trendy as I get. I am also wearing)
1 gray cotton racerback tank dress, which only looks normal when I layer things over it, so I am also wearing
1 dark gray scoopneck shirt with 3/4 sleeves, under
1 black cardigan with 3/4 sleeves.

And sometimes a bright berry-colored scarf. (North Face calls this sort of color "loganberry," which I only know because I recently bought a new winter hat from them, and it turns out that it matches this scarf almost exactly.) During the evening's talk, I may have to break out my dark gray arm warmers, because I wouldn't want to leave that little bit of skin between my sweater cuffs and my wrists exposed. (I get really, really cold during talks in the English department building. It's kind of ridiculous.)

I ran into a classmate in the hallway--well, I say "ran into"; what actually happened was that she called out to me specifically to exclaim "You're wearing a skirt! In all the years I've known you, I don't think I've ever seen that." Hee. She missed last semester's skirt renaissance, so her statement is undoubtedly true.

But it's not snowing today, and there are fewer deep slushy puddles around (at least until tomorrow, when the cycle starts again, hooray), so this was my one chance to sneak in an outfit that wasn't just sweater + jeans tucked into snow boots.

i fail at girliness, clothing not of the renaissance
