As Richard Shindell would have it.
There were many things I ought to have done today. Which is, of course, why I spent much of the day lazing about and (thanks to that whole "should I or shouldn't I?" re: Neverwhere) picking up that reread of Sandman I started over winter break. My volumes of the series are several states away, so it was lucky that the library had the correct volumes in a few days ago. Today was Fables and Reflections and Brief Lives. If my favorite single issue is probably "Sunday Mourning," my favorite volume is Brief Lives, hands down: apparently I have a thing for immortals on road trips (see also The Graveyard Game, in Kage Baker's Company series). I love that it's a story about families. And I love Jill Thompson's artwork, too (see icon): when I think of the Endless, especially Dream, it's most often as they appear here. Given that we see Dream at his most human fairly often in this arc--heartbroken (or something that looks like it), exasperated, apologetic, grieving--it's so nice that the artwork complements that, with its close attention to facial expressions, rumpled hair, etc. I wish I could be more articulate about why I like it so much, but it's hardly likely that I'm going to start now.
The other thing I did today was watch the latest Inspector Lewis mystery on PBS. Doctor Who alums: 1 (the reverend from "The Unicorn and the Wasp"); Merlin alums: 1 (Bradley James); History Boys: 1 (Andrew Knott). A fairly respectable showing.
This post brought to you by the fact that I don't want to go back to school tomorrow.
